Winners, Those Who Never Give Up
I thought that perhaps my last post, The Honest Truth About Blogging For Money, would put some people off blogging, but you know, I’m cool with that because people who aren’t prepared to put in the hard work to succeed should give it up. Actually if all they all pulled out today it would make it better for the rest of us.
Truth be told making money from blogging isn’t easy at all, but it can be a very enjoyable, especially if you enjoy writing, and for all of you thinking not to take it up because writing is not your forté, it was never mine either until I took up blogging and discovered it to be something that I love.
In regards to making money, just because most of us will probably never get to be six figure earners, or who like myself have no wish to be a problogger, as told in Why I Will Never Be A Problogger, that’s no reason to give up. Rather than chuck it all in we just need to earn the most from blogging that we can without compromising our standards.
In life there are generally winners and losers. Winners are those people who set out to do something and then do whatever it takes to achieve it. Losers are those who quit before ever getting there because there were too many obstacles or it was just too hard. I know that all those following me through this blog are winners and we will keep blogging away and even if we don’t achieve that 6 figure income we keep at it until we’re making a tidy sum to supplement our income.
I found this video the other day, one that I hope you will enjoy, and I thought it would fit nicely into this post. I can just imagine what this guy must have thought when he first tried to perform this act, and how we may never have seen it if he had given up because it didn’t seem possible.
Personally I will continue to do what I love and I will also continue to find ways of monetizing a blog so that I can share it with you guys, as I have always done.

I write because I love to write. If I make anything off of it then it’s all gravy. Mmmm, gravy. Now I have to start reading Gordie’s blog because he makes everything sound so dir, uh, interesting.

I think if you are blogging without passion then you will end up feeling like your blog is a chore rather than a positive outlet of creativity and sharing.
Winners are the same as everybody else, it’s just they become winners by putting in the time, the dedication and the passion to get to where they want to be. They also believe in themselves and their talents. :)
I can’t remember where I first came across this video and I hope you don’t mind me dropping the link but I found it very inspirational. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLN2k0b3g70

You are so right, Sire. I’ve heard the same thing about becoming a successful writer. I was discussing my thoughts with a friend, and admitted I didn’t know why I was bothering because so many were so much more talented. He reminded me that it doesn’t matter how talented they are if they don’t follow through. All I have to do is follow through and I’ll have a leg up. It really does make sense.
Also, I wrote a post a while back called Brick Walls after watching Randy Pausch speak on tv. When we encounter obstacles it’s best to think of them as meant to keep others out, but not us. They help to weed out the playing field (sorry for the sports analogy) and increase our chances of success, rather than lessening them.
Just keep going. Don’t give up. Plug away, be consistent, and hopefully a lot of things will become clear to us. I like your attitude. I’m not surprised to see you are a fighter given the example your parents displayed for you.

I have to say I never thought of myself as a writer. I am not one now either. I don’t think? I actually failed my second semester of Freshman English in college. Yeah the teach didn’t think I could write at all. Probably true, but he also was a guy that wouldn’t let us use contractions like wouldn’t couldn’t didn’t all those. He just thought it was wrong and everytime you wrote one there would be a big red “X”. He made us scared of contractions. I was emotionally scared and needed to see a pyschitrist as everytime I saw one I would run off screaming. It wasn’t until about a year ago that I began writing with them again. Contractions are your friends. Wow sorry I was off on a tangent.
As far as winning with a blog you are right it takes a lot of hard work. I have had thoughts of quiting blogging before because I just couldn’t focus and didn’t know what actually to write about. Not having a lot of visitors can kill you to because you sit there and feel like who am I writing to anyways. But now I have gotten into a bit of a groove and I am really enjoying it. It has though taken me a while to get there, but I really do enjoy it.

I do not like to be put in a box and told what I’m supposed to write about simply because writing is all about inspiration and money does not inspire me.
What I have found that really helps me is writing the post first (free spirit part that brings me joy). When I have at least 50% of the article written I do the keyword research. That way at least the article will sometime be found by people searching in the search engines. But the SEO part didn’t take the joy away.
Hope that helps,

Uhh…. I had something useful to say, but then I watched the video, and now its gone. How on earth… in fact no, forget how, why?!?
*ahem* Anyway, I think you’re right about the reason ‘winners’ succeed. They just stick things out longer than everyone else, which means that of course there’s far more chance for them to do well. Much as the video made my eyes pop out, obviously the guy had spent a lot of time learning how to do his act, and possibly he had to face friends and family that just didn’t understand him (and he probably got stuck a few times, which wouldn’t have helped his ego from a ‘calling for help and being laughed at’ point of view). He’s done well to achieve his goal, and there’s a lesson to be learned there I think.
