Why Thesis V2.0.3 Still Sucks

Why Thesis V2.0.3 Still Sucks

Thesis Sucks…Still

I’ve said for a long time now that if you’re serious about appearing professional you need a professional theme. When I finally came to that realisation  several years ago I bought the Thesis theme because everyone was saying how good it was. It was supposed to be the best theme out there and it was supposed to work right out of the box. LIES!!

Not one of them, and I read a lot of blog posts on it before making my decision, mentioned that you had to learn HOOKS in order to access some of it’s so called marvellous features. What a bloody con. Rather than throw it away I decided to use it on my Load Of Bullshit Blog, a fitting place for it I thought.

Well, yesterday I discovered that there was another update that made it even better, Thesis V2.0.3. I thought to myself, maybe this update made it so I didn’t need HOOKS anymore. Maybe I can finally use and start promoting this theme, yes I am an affiliate but I was never comfortable enough to tell others how good it was. I could not lie to my readers.

Anyway, I installed the update, even though they said I had to do some major work to get my site to look the way it used to before the upgrade? What’s with that anyway. You expect that when you buy a new theme but not when there is an update. So, anyway, I upgraded and then with some trepidation I clicked the view button to see the effect.

Why Thesis Sucks

What I saw was the white screen of death! My BS blog had disappeared but fortunately it came back once I restored the old sucky version of Thesis. Do you know how to find out whether something you want to buy is good or not? If the product you’re looking to buy has a forum go and check it out to see what kind of problems people are having with it. I didn’t when I purchased it but I was forced to after buying it because I couldn’t get it to do what I wanted to.

I went back to the forums yesterday only to find that other people were getting the white screen of death as well and I couldn’t find a solution for the problem so rather than waste anymore time on it I just deleted V2 of Thesis.

As to the image on this post, thanks to the Logo Creator I put it together in less than a minute and it conveys my message perfectly. You can read my review of the Logo Creator software here.

If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times, if You’re looking for a professional theme, take my advice and get FlexSqueeze.

Great review on the thesis theme 2.0 and above. I too have had problems with their updates. I tried it but could never really get it to look the way I wanted it to.

My own review was not a good one…at least not for the beginner. Those who have a good knowledge of css, php do benefit using it.

Glad to know I am not the only one who thinks it is “Sucky”.
    Paul.

    1. Hey Paul, I had to fish this out of the spam folder. Don’t know what happened there but it’s all good now.

What gets my goat is that they were never completely honest about their theme. It was never a plug and play theme and they should have let people know that. Of course that would have affected their sales and so they kept it to themselves.

    very nice article wassup blog,
its a matter of fact that thesis sucks, apart from the facts you’ve given in this article, thesis needs too much customization and i hate that, this make me hate thesis even m,ore and to move on to genesis :)

  3. Twitter:
Oh crap, you hate Thesis Sire?

I’ve been using them now for about three years, going on four. I did not upgrade to 2.0 because we were warned that if you already had a blog with Thesis then don’t go that route or you’d be redesigning the entire thing. I stuck with 1.8 but I’m still really happy with it.

Oh and by the way, I don’t use hooks anymore and haven’t probably for the past year. The last time they updated my hooks plug-in went nuts so I deleted it and with the updates Thesis had made, I no longer needed it. Now of course I’m doing any fancy stuff with mine either. I would still call me definitely an amateur.

I know not everyone is happy with it and that’s okay too. I’m just sorry it’s been giving you such a headache! Yikes!!

    1. Maybe I’ll give 1.8 a go Adrienne, especially if it doesn’t need HOOKs. at least then I can compare it to this theme properly, not that I would ever change as I love this theme.

No headackes, so not to worry, I just had to reactivate the old theme. CAn’t believe so many people are having problems with V2 though. I’ve tried a lot of themes and never came across this problem before.

  4. Too funny! I needed to read something like this at the moment. Sorry for your bad experiences with Thesis but it made for a good read and got me in the right frame of mind for the rest of my day!

  5. Great Post! In the moment i´m searching for an other theme on my new project – and of course – Thesis was one of my favorits – but now i´m thinking about and will check it twice again.

    1. All I can say is if you want something that is really easy to adapt to get it to look the way you want it to don’t get Thesis. If you’re OK with coding then you might like it. As for V2, well I can’t say too much about it because it wouldn’t work. That alone says a lot :smoke_tb:

Sounds like your Thesis test belongs right where you put it – on a BS blog. ROFL Well, at least Logo Creator works! I’m still using a free theme on all of my blogs. And if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – so I’m just sticking with my freebies for now. It’s very customizable for my needs.

    1. Yep, how lucky was I to have the perfect blog for it :clap_tb:

As for the Logo Creator, I knew I wouldn’t be able to find the perfect image for it and because I had Logo Creator I didn’t even try. I just whipped one up myself. :smoke_tb:

The last logo I needed I bought a fiverr gig and it worked out pretty well. I should really have a “logo” for my other business too but I haven’t gotten around to it. ROFL

    Hello Sire!

I think going to forums and reading product review and complaints prior to a purchase is a great suggestion. I too have encountered similar issues with things only to discover later that other people shared the same problems in a forum. I will be making this standard practice moving forward :)

I am glad I read this. I dislike my theme so I was looking at buying a theme and was debating on Thesis/Genesis since everyone and their dog blogs about them. Now I am will look at flexsqueeze :)

  9. Hi Sire,

A sigh of relief from me. Ever since I started blogging I wanted Thesis. I finally gave in and purchased it. Like you I was disgusted. It is for people who have a great technical knowledge or who can afford to hire a programmer to set it up. So I returned it. I continue to read reports about it but nothing has really chenged.

Interestingly, Sire, I also used Flexsqueeze theme before I finally changed to Canvas of Woothemes. I am very happy with Canvas, the options and the support I get (I am not an affiliate of Woothemes, they do not have such a program, so please do not think I am promoting it for that that reason)

By the way I really like the way you customized your theme.

    Take care,

    Dita

    1. Hey Dita, I promote FlexSqueeze because I love it and I know others will feel as I do if they purchase. The money I earn as an affiliate is simply another benefit. To date I have not received one complaint from anyone who bought the theme via my link.

It’s obviously not for everybody which is why I continue to do these posts, naming all the features, to give people a better idea of what it can do,

  10. I waited for Thesis 2.0 until it was announced it would launch on October 1st. I installed it pretty straight way when it became available, and despite no guidance from the developer attempted to install it anyway. And after installing, I found it way too disappointing. L My old site had gone completely, only replaced by a blank page with a box with an Edit button in the lower left corner. That’s it! Since then I stopped using Thesis and changed theme altogether. Thesis has completely disappointed me.

  11. Sire! I couldn’t agree more. I have tried Thesis and I have tried Genesis. I have found no benefit to using either of these. It is much easier to start from the scratch to build a theme that is exactly to my likings and fits the client’s needs. WordPress is amazing! You don’t need any of these “frameworks” to customize WordPress. Thanks for sharing this highly informative post!

    1. It might be easier for you to start from scratch Kyron, but most of us don’t have the technical knowhow to do that which is why we need professional theme that allows us to do it even though we know nothing about how WordPress works.

That’s unfortunate to hear. like you, I’d always heard good things about thesis. I like the idea of the parent-child theme frameworks like Genesis, and I’ve seen a few blogs out there running thesis that looked pretty nice. Let’s hope there’s a better 2.1 on it’s way cause I’m still curious.

    1. Don’t forget FlexSqueeze as I feel its an option you want to keep in mind.

As to Thesis, yes I originally purchased it because of all the good things said about it but unfortunately I was disappointed.
