Now isn’t that a pleasn’t surprise, to wake up the other day and notice that I have received a PR2 in such a short time. The thing is that while this blog’s PR went up a couple of my other ones went down, especially my What a Load Of Bullshit blog, that went for PR3 to PR0?
It sort of left me wondering as to how Google comes up with their rankings and also as to why they may downgrade a blog or website. They say that every cloud has a silver lining, and the silver lining for the downgrade was that it allowed me to come up with Ten Reasons Why Google Took My PR! Man I just love having a go at Google.

Nothing like sticking it to the big “G” eh Sire.. perhaps it will make them give you some PR back.

Well it can’t go any lower, that’s for sure.
I don’t know how they calculate it, but I checked mine obsessively for the first two months. I haven’t checked for a week, and seeing your post made me curious. I went from a 0 to a 3!

PR is based upon the number of links that are pointing to your site/blog.
If your blog receives nothing but PR 0 links the chances of you increasing PR are slim to none. If you are able to get links from PR 1, 2, 3, 4 etc pointing to your blog the chances of PR improvement increases.

Somehow, I don’t think its that simple, and I reckon that Google is consistently changing the algorithms it uses that no-one can truly come to grasp with it anyway.
The no. of links is one thing, where do those links come from is what matters most. It’s quality along with quantity.
Of course, no one really knows what the algorithm is, lest anyone tries to game the system.

And I reckon that even when people think they have it right Google changes the rules to stuff everyone up. We have to remember that Google does what Google thinks is best for Google and woe to anyone that gets in the way.
Google will always be changing the rules and there algorithms. Like Yan mentioned its the quality of the link not the quantity.
Personally I like to do thing different and gamble on sites that are PR 0 in hopes they will receive a nice PR ranking. Just like all of those who commented on my blog when it was PR 0 then saw it jump to a PR 3..

Congratulations Kristi. Goes to show that you are doing something right, so whatever your doing, don’t go changing it now.
You may have seen me gripe about this elsewhere, but my main site dropped from 4 to 3, and another site dropped from 3 to 2, but otherwise everything else stayed the same. And I’m still mad about it. :-(

What can I say Mitch? Shit happens. I’m not going to stress over it as it will just spoil my blogging experience.
My gripe is twofold. One, it’s my business site, and it gets enough visitors daily that there’s no reason for it to have dropped. Two, you know I also do SEO work, so that site is optimized to the hilt, links and all, and once again there’s no reason that site should have dropped.
I think I worked out why mine dropped. I have one link there that goes to a backgammon site. Oh well, at least that link is providing an income.
@ Webmasters World. I am grateful for anyone who links to this blog. I am certainly not going to ask them to remove their link just because they are PR0, and like you said, who knows what PR they may achieve in the future.
Hi Sire,
I am in the same boat as you too. My blog’s PR remained at PR3 while my main Work At Home Ideas page went down from PR3 to PR2. I too feel that there should be some kind of a general statement from the BIG G explaining a little, but guess it’s not going to happen. We’re better off just doing the right things for the good of our blog and our pockets.

Wow Peter, you mean I was top commentator. Cool, I didn’t even know. Reckon I should go and pick it up…..
I’m not all that bothered about PR. I do what I do mainly because I like it. If I had to stress over whether it was going to increase my PR or not, well, I reckon it would take all the fun out of blogging.
