I’ve always liked the idea of swapping links with other bloggers but have always steered away from it because I thought that those huge blogrolls were so unbecoming. The obvious solution was to have my own link directory which is only possible because I host my own blogs. I decided to go with Reciprocal Links Pro for functionality and ease of use. If you want to add your blog click here or use the link above my blogroll. If you can’t find a category that is suitable for your blog just leave me a comment with the details and I will get right to it.
There are certain other benefits from having Reciprocal Links Pro (RLP) as my links directory;
- It will create permanent one way links to this blog. I say one way because RLP is actually hosted on another domain
- This will have a flow on effect of increasing my search engine rankings
- It is completely automated so I don’t have to worry about adding links and also checks to make sure the link is active before listing the link in it’s database.
- The automated link checking means that I never have to worry if someone removes a link to the blog as RLP uses CRON, a time-based scheduling service, to check that all my links are still in place on my link partners blogs or websites. It will even email with the results of missing links and the offending sites will also receive an email of the situation.
- It will automatically disable links that fail the specified number checks and will then delete it if action is not taken to rectify the situation.
The list goes on and on but these are the ones that I find of most value.
For those of you who want to get a bit more exposure you might be interested in my Top Blog List which has just reached 54 members. The top 10 get to display their 468×60 banner and it is also another way of tracking some statistics.

Cool idea! I will have to add my link to your directory later. :)

That would be a good test Lucas to see if it actually picks up the link from the Blogroll. You can be my guinea pig

Good luck with your directory.. I have recently created a directory as well.
I suppose we could say that great minds think alike?
Yep… guess you can say that.
Owning a directory site is a must do in my opinion. It takes minimal effort to keep it running but can turn such huge results.
That’s the idea, maximum results for minimum effort, just the way I like it.
How many links do you currently have in your directory?

Not all that much as I have only just started promoting it.

Well then I wish you all the best with it. Directories seem to be a big thing at the moment.

I have another directory which has a few hundred links, but I have more hopes for this one as it is a lot more professional. I thinks it’s the first piece of software that I have actually purchased.
I have yet to purchase any scripts or software. I was going to purchase the directory script im using but it has received such good results with the free version that I dont really see the need to pay for the script. Except to show my support.

I know exactly how you feel, and if I were in the same boat I reckon I would probably run the free version as well.
What inspired you to pay for the script?

Apart from it being a professional setup, it was very configurable, able to promote is as an affiliate, able to insert adsense and the script automatically inserts links that into empty categories that provide an income when clicked on.
Seems like a logical reason to purchase the script. Lots of good support available for that script?

So far so good, but one never knows what the future holds.
Hi Sire,
Thanks for adding my blog here. I think having a link directory is good. But just out or curiosity since this is so automated how do you control sites which are deemed as ‘bad neighborhood’ like casino, link farms, porn from being listed.

That’s simple Peter, as I have set it so that I approved all links personally.

Hi Sire,
I missed this posting last month and just saw it a few minutes ago, thanks to your Most Active Posts list.
I already had WassupBlog.com on my blogroll, but I made some changes so it would be exactly what you suggested on add link page.
Now, we can see if the directory software will pick up the link in the blogroll.
Act on your dream!

Hi John, I’ve set it so that I approve all links, for obvious reasons, but once accepted the software just takes over. The only time I get notified is if the reciprocal link is either removed or the listing modified.
Nice to see you again John.
