Thesis V2.03 White Screen Of Death

Way back in 2013 I wrote a post called Why Thesis V2.03 Still Sucks. I’ve never liked Thesis which is why I run in on my Load Of Bullshit blog. Anyway, two years ago I tried to update that blog in the hope that their latest Thesis V2.03 would be better than the one I was running V1.8.6. As it turned out Thesis V2.03 was even more crappier than the one I was running. Shit, it wouldn’t even load. All I got was the white screen of death.

So I hit the Forums in the hope someone there could help. No joy there at all. So I decided to stick with the older version.

Anyway, I’ve noticed of late that Google has been sending out emails about how important it was to have blogs / websites that were mobile friendly. (More about that in the next post). Something had to be done because Google hated the version of Thesis that I was using.

So, some two years later I head on over to the Thesis to download their latest theme. Imagine my surprise when they were still using Thesis V2.03!   :doh_tb: Surely they would have resolved the white screen of death issue?

So I installed the latest Thesis V2.03 only to find that it still did not work. I still got the irritating white screen of death. Once again their forums were useless!  :wallbash_tb:

Thesis V2.03 Is Dead To Me

Thesis V2.03 still sucks
Designed with the Logo Creator

That’s it! I’ve had enough. I know I paid good money for Thesis but whats the point if it doesn’t do the job properly. I did the only thing I could do. Something I should have done all those years ago when I discovered that Thesis was nowhere near as good as they all promoted it to be. Shit, as far as I was concerned then it’s absolutely crap.

So, I have given Thesis V2.03 and every other Thesis the bullet. It’s now dead to me and will never run one of my blogs again.

I know there are a lot of bloggers out there who will swear by it. But you know what I don’t care. I’m happy that it works for you. It obviously never worked for me.

I’m not fussed though because my Load Of Bullshit blog now runs the best theme ever. FlexSqueeze2!

As always it was so easy to set up. I made the blog even wider than my other blogs with double sidebars on the left. I decided not to have the title in the header opting for integrating it into the header itself. The blog looks so much better. Heck it runs better and yes it’s Mobile friendly.

Don’t forget to look out for my next post where I’ll show you why I thing the FlexSqueeze2 mobile version is so much better than most of the other themes out there.

Sorry your other theme didn’t work out, but you proved my point that just because you paid for something doesn’t always mean it’s good. Then again, having mobile options seems to be the way to go these days, and it sounds like your newest theme will work the way you want it to so that’s good stuff.

Hey Mitch, I’m glad I finally proved something to you :innocent1_tb:

Luckily though there are times when paying for something does actually make life easier. FlexSqueeze is a good example. :thumbup_tb: I’m planning a post which will sho some of the great improvements in the latest update. What I found shocking is that Thesis hasn’t had an update in 2 years. Even though they know a problem exists.

    Hey Peter,

Probably the reason it didn’t work is because they told us when they came out with the 2.0 version that you couldn’t use it for an existing blog. You had to start from scratch because it wouldn’t transfer anything over. That’s the reason I never upgraded to the 2.0 version.

I’m still running the 1.8.6 version myself and I have a plugin that makes it mobile ready and so far it continues to pass Google’s upcoming mobile algorithm change.

I’m sorry you have such a hate for Thesis but the guys in the forum should have addressed this issue so that you wouldn’t publically bash it so. 99.9% of the time it is users error and not the theme.

On another note the FlexSqueeze theme you’re using is one of my least favorites. I’ve used it for some of my niche sites but that’s why we have user preferences right!

I’m looking to change themes myself and I may or maybe veer from using Thesis. My mind hasn’t been made up yet.

      Hey Adrienne,

I never got that email and I didn’t know that plugin existed, which is a good thing because I’m so much happier that I converted my last blog to FlexSqueeze.

FlexSqueeze 2 isn’t just an update as all updates were free. It’s actually a revamped version which you had to pay for. All members got it at a discounted price. I was more than happy to pay for it. And guess what? It updated flawlessly. Why would you make a theme that forced you to start a new blog in order to use it? That makes no sense.

I don’t hate Thesis. I put up with it for years. Right from day one though I’ve said they had misrepresented the theme because it does not work straight out of the box. You have to learn Hooks of all things.

Which site is that Adrienne? And why is it your least favourite? What exactly are its failings? I’m really interested because I can’t fault it.

        Hey Peter,

When they first released it they shared so much information about the transition so I’m surprised that you didn’t receive any of that. Oh well, water under the bridge now. The plugin has been available for about the past three years now because I grabbed it when I first heard about it and have been using it every since. As long as you’re happy with your theme that’s all that really matters.

I didn’t like that Thesis recreated a whole new drag and drop version that we couldn’t update to. That’s just stupid in my eyes which is why I’m changing now. They just aren’t updating it like they should because their main focus is on the 2.0 version instead of the original which I happen to still love.

They did misrepresent the theme but they aren’t the only ones. No premium theme is just a set up and go, not if you want to tweak things to suit you. Granted, that’s what premium themes are for really so you can change them to look like what you want but 99.9% of them do NOT make it easy for you.

I’m not using the theme anymore, I took all my niche sites down. I just really never liked the look of the theme but used it because it was the only one I found at that time that was easier for me to use.

To each his own right Peter! Thanks my friend…

What makes no sense is that you can only use if for new blogs! They’re losing a huge market because of that decision.

I have to disagree with you about no theme is just set up and go because FlexSqueeze is. You can change almost any part of the theme with a click of a mouse. This is a video on FlexSqueeze which I did 5 years ago that showed how easy it was then. It’s even better now so I’m planning to do several more videos. One would be just too long. :smoke_tb:

Sorry you didn’t like it. But like you said previously everyone is different.

  3. Hi Peter!

We used thesis long time ago on our site. It was fast but hard to modify. So we changed to another theme.

Sorry you had so much trouble with your theme. Mine is free and works well enough for my purposes. :) I was intrigued by your “Load of Bullshit” website. Must check that out. Cheers!
