There’s More To Helium Than Meets the Eye

I’ve been a member of Helium for some time now and although I’ve already written a couple of posts on them, check the related posts at the end of this one if you’re interested, I thought I should add something new in this one.

I suppose in a way you could call it an update, but it’s not like they’ve changed something that warranted an update, it’s just that this has just popped in my head and I decided to write about it. In case you’re not sure what Helium is, here’s an excerpt from their about page.

Helium is the face of the publishing revolution!

Helium is also a knowledge co-operative where our writers are also our editors who read and rate every article on the site.

At Helium, we believe that everyone can contribute what they know to share with millions of readers around the globe.

At Helium, we believe readers want a choice of viewpoints – not just one opinion on any subject.

At Helium, we believe publishers need an easier, more efficient way to get the content they need.

At Helium, great writing rises to the top. And great writing reaps great rewards.

  • Helium’s best writers earn cash through:
  • Upfront Payments for contributed work
  • Daily revenue share
  • Writing contests
  • Our best writers are recognized through:
  • Citizen Journalism Awards
  • Published articles through Marketplace
  • Professional journalism organizations

Not a bad ‘about’ page if I do say so myself. Although I don’t struggle looking for topics to write on my blogs I’ve still found that Helium has always provided me some inspiration when I visit there, which I do every couple of days so that I can vote on their articles. Voting on articles earns you ‘rating stars’ and these are necessary for earning an income on their site. While rating these articles you can see what others have written and more often than not they may inspire you to write on the same topic, meanwhile giving you fodder for another post.

Just today I had to vote on some poetry under the heading ‘If I Ruled The World”. That link will take you to my poem on Helium so you can see how it stacks up against the other poems on the same topic. It’s now rated 15 out of 27 but I’m hoping it will improve as time goes on.

If I ruled the world
things would change
So many rules would be unfurled
Some may consider them strange

Do gooders would think twice
Before speaking their mind
Giving ridiculous advice
Advice that should be declined

There would be no money spent on war
There are so many better uses
Ones far better than opening the door
To fighting rape and other abuses

Politicians would be treated the same
As the people they feign to rule
If they can’t handle the game
Then they are nothing but fools

Racism will cease to exist
Everyone will be treated the same
Those whose hatred will persist
Will be looked upon with shame

Ostracized by the world united
Forced to live on their own
Waiting until realization is ignited
And they no longer have to be alone

No longer will people fight for profit
While watching others starve
As they learn the wisdom of the Prophet
It’s better to give than an empire carve

Honestly I reckon you could do worse than by joining Helium and if you’re in anyway interested just let me know in the comment section and I’ll send you a personal invitation. If you do decide to join here’s a couple of tips for you.

  1. Use Keywords: This is just as important as using it in your blog posts. Not only will it help others to find it via the search engines it also helps those using Helium’s own search facility, and the more exposure you get the more potential for increasing your income. I failed to do this at the beginning and it’s probably the main reason why I’m not earning as much as I could be.
  2. Proof Read Before Posting: This is also important as once posted you can’t edit it unless you have a leapfrog or two up your sleeve. I’ve read many a post where people haven’t proof read their article and this has always worked against them when I rate their article.

That should give you a good head start so that if you do join you will be way ahead of newbies who haven’t had anyone to counsel them on the ways of Helium.

  1. Hey Peter!

I first heard of the helium site a week or so ago from Steve Scott. I’ve signed up, but that’s all. Haven’t written any articles for them yet.

I think I just sent you a “friend request” thingy. I say “think” because it didn’t give me any feedback saying the request was sent or not. I didn’t bother adding a personal note… figured you’d know who it was. :-)

Wow, you’ve written heaps there! That last poem seems to be sitting on 3 of 27 now. And you’ve got a few 1st places too! That’s awesome!

    Kind regards,
    Steve

    1. Got it Steve and accepted. Interestingly enough you’re the first one to send me one. I didn’t even know they existed :doh_tb: Reckon I’ve been too busy writing that I missed that section of Helium

Yeah, some of my articles have rated pretty well, and I admit I am quite pleased about that. Most of the stuff there you’ll find on my blogs, with a few alterations to make them acceptable, like the removal of affiliate links and stuff.

I really like Helium and I reckon there’s a lot on offer there.

  2. Hi Sire

Thanks for the explanation. I keep seeing Helium posts turning up in my Twitter stream from people I follow. Now I know what it is about.

Can anyone join and do you get paid for submitting posts or just if someone likes/wants to use it?

    Patricia Perth Australia

    1. Anyone can join Patricia and it’s free as well. If you’re interested I can send you a personal invite.

There are several ways you can earn money, me I just take the little bit that my articles earn as part of my share of the adsense earnings.

Other than that you can write for what’s known as The Marketplace where you can compete for a publishers task getting paid anywhere between $15-$100. They’ve also got contests and the like.

Personally I like entering my articles to see how they stack up with the others. I find it helps me improve my writing.

      1. Thanks Sire

I need to get going with writing more. This would give me an added incentive. Would love an invite and thanks :-)

        1. No Worries Patricia. Actually before this post I never thought to invite anyone so you’re my very first invite :thumbup_tb:

OK guys, get in quick because I only have 49 left :tongue_wink_ee:

  3. I’ve used Helium in the past and I actually have even some articles written in there. Although I was pretty excited in the beginning (my articles being voted best of, lol), I came to a conclusion that it is very difficult to maintain their requirements as I am not a regular user. Anyway, I think that it can be an interesting place to earn some money if you have the time and drive for it. In my case, its not that I don’t have the drive but I rather write articles on my websites :)

    1. What requirements exactly did you find difficult DiTesco? The only one that I maintain is rating a few articles every day or so. Doesn’t take more than 5 or 10 minutes.

As to the articles I submit, I’ve already written them anyway as just about all of them started off as one of my posts.

      1. I really don’t remember Sire but I know I wanted to write articles that where being asked or something about submitting “unique titles”, don’t know. Memory lane is catching up on me. I’ve got 16 articles written there and my life time earnings is $3. Maybe the topic I was writing about is not as popular on Helium.

        1. I choose my articles is when I’m rating them, if they sound interesting I give it a go. I’ve already reached my first threshold and got paid, now I’m almost on my second. Not big bucks but then not much effort involved and it all adds up.

  4. I’ve seen Helium popup in discussions before but never knew much about them. I figured they were just another place to place articles in hopes of making millions from AdSense (yeah – right). BUT if it’s a little more than that it’s work a look.

    Thanks for the pointer, Sire!

    1. It’s a lot more than that. They’re actually very professional and have a huge amount of great writers. Let me know if you’d like an invite.

You can join without one but, to be quite honest with you, I do get a cut of earnings from anyone who has signed under me.

      1. I would like that, Sire. Now that the sawdust business is winding down I will get more time to write stuff other than my blogs. I’m glad you linked back here from a comment; I have been working on an article for The write Stuff about on-line publishers and remembered you recommending one, but the grey matter let me down as to what it’s name was. I’ll give it a mention and link back here for the details.
        Thanks!

        1. I know all about forgetting stuff Allan, so don’t worry you’re not the only one that does that.

I sent you that invite. If you decide to include it in that article I’d be very interested to read your thoughts on it.

Where do you find all this info?

Never heard of Helium, other than in O Level Chemistry, but I’ll head over there and take a look.

Thanks for the tips about keywords etc.

BTW – I’ll be thinking about you on Boxing Day when the next Ashes test starts.
