When one sees a really nice photo, sometimes you can't help but wish that you can just save a copy of it so you can come back to it whenever you want. Probably even use it as your screen saver every now and then. ;) Uh-oh. Watermarks may not prevent other people from saving a copy of your photo and using it as much as they please, but at least everybody else who sees that photo will know where/who it is originally from.

Watermarks are to photos are brandings are to cows. Okay ... a bit far fetched, but this is what happens after a whole day of photo shoots at a barn. ;) Watermarks can certainly provide photographers with some sort of security with their photos, especially with those posted online. That "right click" button can easily make one's photos a property of someone else.

Great article, AussieSire! I've been using watermarks too on my photos, even though I am so far away from being a professional photographer. Most of the photos I take are those of my family, especially those of my 2-year-old daughter. Placing a watermark on them before I send it out to the vast and interminable world of the internet provides me with some sort of security.

Now why didn't we think of that? Watermarks are certainly a great way to protect your photos and advertise at the same time. I've had some previous trouble about seeing some of my photos in other people's sites. It's really no big deal especially since those photos are not meant for commercial use, but it gets to you sometimes when it happens too often.

Hi Jordan, you will find that I place watermarks on all the photos that are important to me. Just check out my two photo blogs to see how true this is, and I've found WinWatermark does a great job.

I am an amateur photographer for almost a year now and I have a collection of photos that I have posted on a social networking site (Facebook). I did not think about putting up a watermark on any of my photos since I find the watermark option in Adobe Photoshop complicated. However, one of my friend who happens to be a photographer too told me that some of her photos were stolen from her and she even directed me to a link of the site where her photos were used without her permission. This is the reason why I want to learn how to put watermarks on my photos.I think I will also get the WinWatermark for my photos.
