Five Best WordPress Plugins For Affiliate Marketers

As a blogger I’m a bit of a plugin hog and I firmly believe that it’s the huge suppository of available plugins that make WordPress the huge success that it is. Don’t get me wrong, even without the plugins WordPress is the best blogging platform out there but adding plugins to the equation just makes it do so much more. There are plugins that deal with spam and there are plugins that make WordPress blogs more efficient. There are plugins that reward your readers, like commentluv and do follow,  and there are plugins that help you with your quest to make an online income.

Which brings me to this post where I plan on showing you what I believe to the 5 best free wordPress plugins for the affiliate marketer, or indeed any blogger that wants to boost their online income.

5 Essential Affiliate WordPress Plugins

  • Affiliate Link Cloaker: Developed by Joe Brewer I believe theWhat do Affiliate´s Want? Affiliate Link Cloaker to be an essential part of your affiliate plugin arsenal. This plugin does more than just cloak your links, it also makes them appear more professional as well as being ‘geo’ aware. This means it will send American who clicked on your Amazon link to the American Amazon site and any English person who clicked on a link to the English Amazon site. There are also several other unique qualities like making the links nofollow as well as setting up keywords so the links are placed automatically in posts when those keywords are found.
  • Fast Secure Contact Form: If you want to become successful you have to make yourself available to anyone who’s looking for added information, information that could well lead to a sale. Mike Challis’ Fast Secure Contact form is a perfect tool for making you available to your prospects.
  • Max Banner Ads: I wrote a post about Max Banner Ads where I talked about it’s ability to rotate ads so as to help prevent ad blindness. A great utility for incorporating your affiliate banners.
  • SEO Smart Links: Developed by Vladmir Prelovac SEO Smart Links allows you to turn words selected by you into affiliate links. You control whether you want them to appear just in your post or in your comments as well. Turns those words into links in all your posts including past ones.
  • MediaPass Subscription Plugin:  Perhaps not one for affiliate marketers per se but definitely one that can used to add to your online income. When I originally told you about  MediaPass it involved installing a code on your blog but now they have developed their own WordPress plugin. For the plugin to work you need to be a member but that’s not a problem because its free to join.

Well, there you go, now you have another 5 plugins to check out to see whether or not they will suit your blogging needs. But don’t go away just yet because there is more for you to do before you continue on your blog hopping way.

Don’t Leave Before You

  • Leave a good comment: Remember that a good comment has much more value than a mere backlink as it builds your brand by showing others you know what you’re taking about and has a greater potential for building traffic to your site
  • Promote this post by sharing with your Social Network! Telling me what a great post this is and then not giving it a Tweet or using one of the other social media buttons at the bottom of this post is a pretty empty gesture. Also, keep in mind that promoting this post also promotes your comment giving it more exposure making it a win, win situation.

Cool, now that you’ve left a comment and shared this post with your social network you are free to leave. :tongue_laugh_ee:

  1. Hi Sire,

Nice! I am using the Redirect plugin to cloak my links, well…it’s very complicated. I have to create a blank page under a category link Go->ProductABC, the permalink would be example.com/go/productabc/ and then using the Redirect plugin to point that link to my affiliate link. Long process, but it works :)

I think I’ll try the Affiliate Link Cloaker on the next site I put up. Thanks for the resource.

    1. Hi David, you really must be committed because if I had to go through all that I reckon I would rather hide my head in the loo. :flush_tb: :lol_ee:

I’m sure you will love Affiliate Link Cloaker. I used it on my Hire Me page and I will slowly incorporate my other affiliate links so I can utilise it’s full potential.

      1. Very nice links, exactly what I am looking for. Thanks again!

  2. Thanks for the tips, Sire. And I like the visual enhancements you’ve added – quite spiffy! Having plug-ins available to help with hooking up with affiliate marketing does make it more tempting. The hoops and barrels needed before were daunting.

    1. Hey Allan, thanks for noticing mate! Now I know what the wife feels like when I notice she had a hair cut :tongue_laugh_ee: You know, if she didn’t have to go to the hairdresser that often I wouldn’t need to make as many affiliate sales. :lol_ee:

  3. Hey Pete!

Two things I want to mention here, mate…

First up, what’s the deal with the title of this post saying “Ten best plugins…”; then the second paragraph says: “Eight best plugins…”; and then you only list and talk about five! WTF?

Second point. Be careful with Affiliate Link Cloaker’s geo awareness. Especially with Amazon links. amazon.com and amazon.co.uk each have separate associate programmes. If you are an associate on the US Amazon site, but not the UK site, you will not get commissions on anyone going to the UK site via your link.

If that is their prime selling point (the geo-aware thing), I’d be inclined to not use it for Amazon links (at least). (yes I know it is a free plugin, you know what I mean by “selling point”)

    1. Hey Steve, what can I say but oops! :doh_tb:

I usually use a temporary heading so that I have something to focus the post subject matter on. I wasn’t sure how many plugins I was going to include so I just used 10 as a random number. Don’t know where the number 8 came from :ponder_tb:

I don’t use the link cloaker for my Amazon links but I’ll keep that in mind if I ever do. The question is do I edit the post to reflect your warning or shall I just leave it up to them to find out from reading the comments. :cheese1_ee:

    2. Hi Steve

You make a good point about the geo awareness with amazon. There are two options here:

      1. Sign up to all of amazon’s associate programmes and use the geo targetting.
      2. Sign up to the amazon associate programme that you are likely to get the most sales from and dont use the geo targetting. With this option though you may miss out on some commission.

  4. Nice collection of plugins Sire. Like you, I am an addict for WP plugins and specially those that are available on the repository :) I am using all you listed here except for “affiliate cloaker” where I chose to use GoCodes instead. Either way, they are very similar.. and al are really great and recommended plugins. SEO Smartlinks is a real time saver btw ;-)

  5. Nice list. I love Fast Secure Contact Form, it’s a great PHP script, and can also integrate Captcha to stop spammers from sending you garbage. And it comes with a lot of customization too.

  6. Thanks for the plugin list. Have you got any recommendations for a traffic stat plugin? I’d rather not use Google Analytics because I think they already have access to too much data.

  7. Was actually looking at max banner ads – but I plan to use it when I get some more popularity. Currently using SEO Smart links already – definitely good. Going to look at affiliate link cloaker as well – have to see how I’m going to do that first.

    great post! Definitely helpful.

I have been using Fast Secure Contact Form and I have to say, I am very please with its performance.

I have been searching and testing different link Cloakers and I haven’t found one that can do the job the way I want it.
Affiliate Link Cloaker sounds like a good one. Thanks for the link Sire, i am gonna give it a try.

  9. Thanks for pointing me to these WordPress plug-ins Sire. I just decided to become an affiliate marketer this week; consequently, I may simply print out the list for now.

    1. I’m always willing to help out a fellow blogger Rachel :drunk_tb:

  10. Sire,
You always inspire me. First you know your subject and I trust your recommendations even if I don’t always understand how they might help me. But doggone it, you don’t stop there, you insist that I don’t leave without adding and insightful comment and plugging on on SM. How can I refuse, you sly dog?

    1. Hey Ralph, someone said ‘ask and you shall receive’ and so I did my bit by asking :smile2_ee:

  11. Twitter:
Nice list Sire. I installed the Fast Secure Contact Form plugin a few days ago go but I have a lot of work ahead of me before I’m ready to start monetizing me new blog. This list will come in hand when I get the content and traffic up to par.

Six months from now when I ask you where that post is about affiliate plugin this will be that post. lol

    1. Yeah, it is a great contact form and as a blog owner it’s always a good idea to be available to people in case they need your assistance or something.

Hopefully when you do ask in 6 months I’ll remember what you’re talking about. :laugh_tb:

  12. This is a great list. I think you also forgot the “All in One SEO” plugin which I find to be very useful. I have all these except for, “Max Banner Ads” which I will try it out.

    1. Good point Loc, an affiliate marketer could use a good SEO plugin

  13. This is a great list of wordpress plugins. If you do any blogging these are invaluable to building a profitable website or blog. Thanks for the list, I have used some of what you mentioned but not all. It’s always great to see what other plugins that people are using.

    1. These are just a small sample of plugins that are available. I’m sure there are many more, same may even do a better job, and when I find them I will be reviewing them at a later date.
Sire recently posted…Have You Been Getting Warnings From Avast? My Profile

  14. I use all these plugins in my sites, love them! and you’re right, the success of wordpress is largely due to its ability to incorporate anything anyone could want through a plugin. That’s why I don’t use any other platform, nothing has as many options as a wordpress site.

    1. You are so right and that’s why I believe WordPress to be the best blogging platform out there.

  15. Thanks Sire!

I’m excited about the link cloaker plugin! So far I’ve been using a complicated process of first shortening my links via bit.ly, then using GoCodes to change their format (yes I’m a newbie!), although this still doesn’t really work perfectly because it still shows my affiliate ID in the domain name once the customer has been transferred to the money site.

I currently use Contact 7 Form for wordpress but I’m definitely going to check this one out, too!

    1. Hi Christina,

I heard about link cloaking some while ago but because it was so involved I never bothered about it. This plugin is relatively new and I was so excited when I found it. I’ve been trialling it for a little while and because it’s been working so well I thought it was time to share it with everyone else.

  16. Hi Sire! I LOVE the plugins that cloak affiliate links. Actually, up until only – say a month ago – I honestly did not know that we could cloak them (I didn’t even know what it meant! LOL). It makes our links look so much better. I use it on a couple of blogs and will get them on all of them.

Incidentally, I am going over to my site right away to check out Vladmir Prelovac’s SEO Smart Links plug in… I use another one of his, SEO Friendly Images that was recommended too. He’s quite prolific and generous!

Thanks for the validation about which ones work well and that you recommend. Like they always say, “If you want to succeed, take your advice from successful people.”
    :)Katie

    1. Glad you got something out of the post Katie, and for mentioning Vladmir’s SEO friendly images which sounds interesting and something that bears looking into.

  17. Sire – thanks for the tips! I have not tried SEO Smart Links, but I will be checking it out. Actually, I will be checking several of these out.

    1. No worries Tracy, glad you got something useful from the post. :thumbup_tb:

  18. I’m using maxbanner ads on my adsense blog and it works perfectly. I wonder if affiliate link cloaker can track the number of clicks as well? Nice collection of plugins I hope you can share more.

    1. Funny you should say that because the recording clicks part doesn’t work in Max Banner Ads, at least not for me.

  19. Great list of affiliate marketing plugins Sire, I am just getting more into affiliate marketing so this will be a valuable resource. I just hate having too many plugins on my site though.

    1. Hey Danny,

I know what you mean about having too many plugins. I usually try to get rid of one when I find a new one but it doesn’t always work out that way.

  20. I use pretty links pro for the affiliate links, find that to be quite a good solution to hide links and track them as well as automatically converting words into links.

Love the SEO smart links as well, but trying out Ultimate SEO to improve internal linking at the moment.

    1. Haven’t heard of pretty links pro but it does sound pretty :wink_ee:

The thing is with plugins is that choosing the right ones makes certain blogging tasks so much easier.
Sire recently posted…Have You Been Getting Warnings From Avast? My Profile

  21. How about Adsense? Can I use Max Banner Ads on it? Or will I get banned?

    1. Yes you can use adsense and I can’t see why adsense would ban you for using it.

  22. SmartLinks is a gem, I have to admit. If this thing doesn’t boost your CTR in term of your affiliate links, nothing will.

    Great recommendation Sire.

    Mark

  23. Awesome post, to the point and just what i needed. Affiliate link cloaker does the job perfectly.

    1. Hey Ravi, it certainly does do a good job.

  24. It’s actually my first time to learn about SEO Smart Links. Site owners like me must try this one. Great thing to know that affiliate marketers can maximize all of these plugins for their own benefits.

    1. Maria, it was my first time as well only a few days ago, I sure hope it was as good for you as it was for me :lol_ee:

  25. Hi Sire,
Thanks so much for the plugin list,it is going to go a long way in helping this dummy get up to speed, especially the link cloaking plugin.
And to all other commenters – thanks so much for your helpful comments. Totally awesome!

  26. I’m here again Sire!

I already have fast secure contact form and it’s really helpful as visitors will be convenient and comfortable when they need to contact you.

Sooner or later I will try the max banner ads and the seo smart links–they are pretty interesting (–,)

    1. No worries Jess, I’m sure you will find them helpful.

      1. well yeah sooner! I’m off to bed! Will read more of your posts tomorrow! geeezzzz i’m going to get busy as I get new ideas here.

  27. That plugin to cloak the links and make them nofollow sounds very useful. I just got punished by google, probably for looking like an affiliate site too much, so I had to make my affiliate links nofollow, hope it helps.
And cloaking makes the links look more professional and less private. I should start doing that.
    Great list!

    1. It’s actually a very good plugin Danny especially as it substitutes keywords of your choice for affiliate links.

  28. Seems like you make lots of money through affiliates dun you??

    1. I do OK, but I could always do better.

  29. I am just starting out as an affiliate marketer. I didn’t know about 3 of the above plugins. Why do you think it is necessary to cloak the affiliate links?

What is the best way to make affiliate sales? Any tips?

    Thanks

    1. Well one good reason is it makes the link look a lot more presentable. Another is that it helps prevent people from stealing the link. By this I mean it prevents them from removing the affiliate part of it costing you any commission.

As to best affiliate sites it all depends on what your site is all about and what you are promoting.
