I hardly ever post two days in a row, but after yesterdays post, Do You Want To Earn Money Writing? I thought I should make an exception. You see while writing yesterdays post I got so excited that I joined the company I was promoting. As it turns out it was a real disappointment. It seems in my excitement I forgot the golden rule, ‘If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is!’ While their promise that I could make up to $315 a day sounded too good to be true I thought that it was achievable as I’ve written 200 word posts where I was paid $20 so I figured writing 15 articles a day, while tedious, was doable. Now for the facts.
- Real Writing Jobs!
: I assumed that they were a company that supplied all the jobs, where in essence they don’t, the bulk of their jobs were sourced from other sites, something that Allan Douglas from The Write Stuff mentioned in his comment on that very post. That being the case why would I want to pay $47 per month when most of the jobs were available off site.
- Pitiful Pay Rates: As I mentioned earlier I would do a 200 word paid post for $20 which works out to 10 cents a word. Most of the jobs on offer were only paying half a cent a word and only a few offered one cent a word. As most articles requested were to be 500 words in length at one cent per word you would only be paid $5. This means to make the $315 benchmark you would have to pump out 63 articles a day. Sorry, I don’t think that’s doable and if anyone was able to write that many articles a day I reckon they would be pretty shitty ones.
Once I got that far I was so disillusioned that I contacted them and asked to cancel my membership and within hours I got a reply saying that they were sorry to see me go and if I ever changed my mind I could reply and they would reinstate me. At least it’s good to know that they’re professional in that respect.
While I wouldn’t pay the $47 per month to have access to their virtual job board I reckon there are obviously a lot of people out there who don’t mind as it makes things easier for them, seeing all the jobs available in one place without having to search several sites on a daily basis looking for work. There was one good thing that came out of it though and that was it led me to Freelancer. They are free to join and they offer a variety of jobs. The writing part doesn’t pay much but there were other jobs that paid quite well. I noticed some web design jobs that were paying $800 to over $1000 as well as other jobs such as blog installs and blog theme modifications. There were also some eye openers but I think I will leave them for another post.
