Why The The Struggle For PR Is A Waste Of Time

Before I go any further I would like everyone to know that I’m not all fussed about PR. My normal readers would know this but I am just stating it for those who happen to stumble upon this post. There’s a reason for this post, and that is because I believe there are a lot of bloggers out there whose efforts to improve their PR may actually be hampering their blogging efforts.

This could be because they may be stuffing their posts with keywords thereby cramping their writing style or in an effort to getting backlinks they resort to spamming other blogs, specifically those dofollow blogs and those wanting to reward their commentators by using such plugins as commentluv and keywordluv.

As far as PR is concerned I think it’s the following people who are most preoccupied with it.

  1. Bloggers and Webmasters who like to parade their ranking in front of everyone as symbol of their SEO prowess.
  2. Bloggers and Webmasters and Companies who pay others for links pointing to their sites, much to the disgust of Google.
  3. Paid To Review Sites who act as a medium between advertisers and those people selling links on their sites.
  4. SEO experts who amongst other things promote their capability to provide amongst other things a good PR and to have their site appearing on the first page of Google and other main search engines.

Honestly, it surprises me that the largest and most important group of people actually don’t give a stuff about PR. Come to think of it they probably don’t even know it exists let alone know the reasoning behind it all. I’m talking about your average  surfer who bounces from one blog/site to another completely oblivious to it’s PR.

So, if PR is supposed to display a site’s prominence in a particular field or service and the casual surfer has absolutely no idea as to it’s relevance or even existence one has to ask the question; Whats the bloody point of busting your gut trying to get a high PR when those important surfers, the one most likely to click on your adsense ads, haven’t got a clue as to what it is?

Dominance Is All About Your Domain Name

I’ve been blogging for several years now and I discovered relatively early in the game that having the right domain name had terrific SEO benefits. Nicolas’ post Domain Name Issues explains many of the issues involved with choosing the right domain name.

My problem was that knowing the SEO benefits of choosing the right domain name I still chose domains because I liked the sound of it rather than for any SEO reasons. I mean really, how many people would actually use the search term Wassup, or Blogsire? My Load Of Bullshit blog was really a fluke as I never imagined how many people would actually use the word bullshit when searching the net.

With my last two blogs I thought it was about time I did things right and so I purchase domains that reflected what I was intending to market, Top Software Online for tackling the shareware software market, and Top Sexual Aids for targeting the sexual health market. The latter is not quite a month old and it is already doing fairly well in the SERPs or search engine results pages,  and it is entirely to do with the domain name.

This is extremely fortunate for me becuase I do not feel comfortable using the url when commenting on other blogs :blush_tb: If anyone has any ideas how to market this blog I would love to hear from you.

Speaking of purchasing the right domain name, Doug is actually selling MrBlogging.com! What a brilliant domain for a blog all about blogging, not only is keyword rich, it’s easy to remember and looks damn good to boot. Not to mention you won’t be embarrassed to leave your url when commenting. :wink_ee:

There wouldn’t be too many bloggers writing today who didn’t have a rudimentary idea of how to promote their blog on the web. These ideas all fit into a nice little package called SEO, or Search Engine Optimization. Some of these ideas bloggers use may include;

  1. Commenting on other blogs, especially do-follow blogs
  2. Submitting the blog to RSS, blog and other directories
  3. Signature links in emails
  4. Being generous with your link luv
  5. Using Social Media such as Twitter, Digg, StumbleUpon etc.
  6. Submitting Free articles
  7. Being an active member in Forums using the blog link as a signature
  8. Using the right keyword and phrases
  9. Making sure that a google sitemap is active ensuring the blog is fully indexed
  10. Supplying good content, because all of the above is useless if a blog’s content is not good enough to capture the readers interest so that they come back for more.

There are many other ways but I’ve only mentioned some of the free methods available to bloggers for the promotion of their blogs.

I would like to talk a little bit more about submitting your blog to article directories. This is pretty well an untapped resource for many bloggers. These directories are not just a resource where you can Find Free content, as submitting your own articles, complete with a link to your blog, is a great way of blog promotion, especially if you’re supplying great content. Apart from the SEO advantages, people reading the articles are very likely to visit your blog just to see what other great content you have available.

Is your blog or website is important to your business success? Is your presence in the top pages of the search engines seriously lacking? If this sounds like you then I suggest you should seriously consider getting the right tools to boost your presence in the search engines. I’ve been in business for close on thirty years and I have found that having the right tools can not only make your task easier, it can also increase sales and profitability. I see no reason why the same principle wouldn’t apply online.

While it is very unusual that a company will let you trial something in the real world, there are sites on the Internet that will let you download demo versions of their programs. One that I have been using for awhile is the Link Popularity Check! Whilst this tool is basically to help you compare your site against your competitors I’ve found another use for it. I use it to find what links are pointing to a particular blog and then leave comments on the same blog to build up the links pointing to mine. It stands to reason that if those links are already being accessed by Google then my links should also be picked up.

The Link Popularity Check tool is only one of the many tools offered by Internet Business Promoter, but the one that would sit way above the rest would have to be their proven Top 10 Optimizer, and just so you can have a taste of what it can do they will let you download a demo version. They are so sure that their software will deliver the results you want that they give a money back guarantee.

We guarantee that your website will be listed in the top 10 results in the search engine of your choice for a keyword of your choice.

If you don’t get top 10 rankings, you’ll get your money back. IBP is the only website promotion tool that can offer you such a strong guarantee. Order IBP now 100% risk-free.

Just to finish off the guys at IBP are even offering a free Search Engine Optimization eBook that will tell you how to get high search engine rankings. With over 160 pages it covers everything from an introduction to search engine marketing to tips and tricks on how to improve your order page. Applying the tips and tricks presented in this ebook should almost guarantee that you’ll get more visitors and more sales.

These guys even have an eBook that shows how to optimize your Google AdWords allowing you to pay less while making more money! Now that is what I call optimization. So sure are they that the eBook will do everything that they say it will they are offering a 30 day money back guarantee.

I hope that you will actually click on those links as each one will take you to a page that will describe the software in a whole lot more detail. There is no obligation to buy any of the products so there is absolutely no pressure. Last I can remember, as it was awhile since I downloaded the software, you don’t even have to supply any contact information so you needn’t worry about spam emails. If this has changed I am sure someone will leave a comment. I do not make anything from a simple click, but if you do decide to buy from them, all monies will go to my retirement fund. :wink_ee:

Bloggers, Overworked And Underpaid

Let’s assume that a bloggers main aim is to utilize his blog to make money, with the sole intention that one day he or she can tell their bosses to go get stuffed, as they now have their very own profitable online business. They dream about the look on their boss’s face when they will one day drop the ‘I Quit’, bombshell.

The trouble is that this dream, for the majority of bloggers, is a long way off and there is a lot of hard work ahead of them. Let’s face it, monetizing the old Blog isn’t as easy as we once thought. So much goes into blogging from choosing the host, theme, affiliates and then to consistently provide quality content in order to build a presence on the Web that will hopefully build into a strong readership.

The problem is that content alone will not achieve this. We also have to become marketers and SEO wizards just so that our blogs will become noticed by the big search engines. This in itself takes a lot of time as we sift through all the information available on the Web, trying all the different things we learn, usually by trial and error, hoping that we will hit on the right mix that will suddenly thrust us into blogging fame and glory.

All this to encourage what we hope to be thousands of daily visitors. Visitors that will provide interaction with our posts bringing even more visitors. In the end the plan is that our blogs become so popular that advertisers will beg for a spot on our blogs. The thing is that until that happens all we can hope is that these visitors will click on our Google Adsense ads or on one of our affiliate links.

The thing is that even after doing all the right things, bringing in all those visitors and getting all those affiliate links constantly clicked, unless the landing page of those affiliates are designed in such a way as to encourage a lead or sale, all that hard work has been in vain. I know, because very few of the thousands of clicks that I have sent to affiliates over my blogging career have actually culminated in a sale thereby earning me money.

Does this mean that it has all been in vain? No, certainly not! It just means that I haven’t yet hit on the right mixture of affiliates. This naturally means more work for me as a blogger, as I constantly strive for that lucky mixture of factors that will finally give me the fame, glory and financial freedom that seek.

Yep, no matter how you look at it, unless you are ProBlogger, we are definitely overworked and underpaid.
