When blogging for money the most important item on your list should be a professional theme because like it or not they're going to judge you on how your blog looks. If you're like me you will want a theme that not only looks good it has to be easy to use as well.

Making Money With Amazon

The reason many people join Amazon as an affiliate is because of the range of products they have available for sale. My tool of choice as an Amazon affiliate would have to be WPZon Builder!

The post Why I Love WP Zon Builder gives you a sample of what this exceptional plugin is capable of. In short the main positives would have to be the ease of use and the ability to import the customer reviews into your post.

Choosing The Right Affiliate

It’s Time For A Little Link Luv

Every now and again I like to write a post where I link to blogs that I like. To be a little different I thought this time I would link to some new blogs that I’ve come across. Some of these may be relatively new and could do with a little extra help to get some extra readership and others piqued my interest so much that I wanted to share them with my valued readers.

As bloggers we must learn that blogging is about sharing and helping others. We share by writing down our thoughts and we help others by answering their questions, providing thoughtful and helpful articles and also by linking to their blogs.

The Personal Cook Files

Grace is the blogger behind this blog that tantalizes your taste buds. It’s probably a good idea to read her about page to get an idea of how the blog came about, I particularly liked the following line which sums it all up “This is a story of a marriage forged in food.”

The first post I happened to stumble on was Easy Pork Recipes: Spicy Sisig Recipe and I must say the photo of the meal really wet my taste buds, but the recipe did have a particular ingredient that would put me off from ordering it in a restaurant. A shame really how the knowledge of something can prevent you from savoring all that life has to offer. Sometimes you wonder if it’s just better not knowing. :innocent1_tb:

Morpho Designs

This blog belongs to Mitchell Allen and while I’ve seen his name on several of the blogs I’ve visited I don’t think that I’ve ever checked him out until he left a quality comment on one of my posts, so you see people, it does pay to leave good quality comments when you go blog hopping.

Thanks to commentluv the post I landed on was his Review Of Max Your Holiday Profits, an eBook written by Barbara Ling who I’m sure many of you are familiar with. Mitch, not to be confused with Mitch from I’m Just Sharing gave a concise review of the product with a very special offer to anyone who purchases it via his affiliate link.

New Biz Blogger

I don’t know what it is but for some reason I keep landing on blogs owned by pretty women. I’m sure it’s not my fault and it’s simply because there are more women bloggers than there are men. That may not be true but that’s my only excuse. :innocent1_tb:

Michelle Welch is a woman of many talents, her latest being that of a blogger. I stumbled onto Michelle via a Tweet sent to me by Kimberly of Just Ask Kim, another very good blogger. The tweet led me to a particular post, Care To Be Featured In An Ebook! This Ebook could be a marketing bonanza for all involved. She is taking submissions from bloggers to be included in the Ebook up until the 13th of Dec. so you still have a couple of days as of the writing of this post to be involved. Sorry this post is a little late but then all the more reason not to procrastinate and to act NOW.

Tek3D

This is basically a Technology blog but it is also infused with a lot of other useful information. One of his posts so captivated me that I immediately installed another plugin. Those who know me know that I tend to have too many plugins and so this had to be extra special for me to have installed yet another plugin.

The post I’m talking about is Display Next Post In New York Time Style, and you will see it kick into action as you scroll down near to the end of the post. Yep, it’s that ‘fly-out box’ that you see popping out from the right. It highlights the next post in the same category of the post you are currently reading. The whole idea being that it improves your bounce rate, and according to Tuan, the blog’s author, has worked for his blog.

Phew, that was a long blog post, especially for me. :tongue_rolleye_ee: I hope you guys visit those other blogs and tell them that Sire sent you so that I can get in good with the ladies :smile2_ee:, yeah, yeah, the guys too. :thumbup_tb:

Oh, in case you’re wondering how I did all those fancy colored blocks you can read all about it here.

Applying SEO To Your Category Pages

We all know how important SEO is if you want to be noticed by the major search engines. If you’re a regular reader of this blog you will also know that I am the perpetual lazy blogger, one who enjoys blogging but unfortunately I find SEO to be a real drag and so I look for ways to optimize my SEO without doing all the hard work.

Enter the Platinum SEO plugin which really does a brilliant SEO job on almost any blog. I reckon a lot of you probably already use this plugin but I wonder how many of you use it to it’s full extent. Did you know that you could optimize your category pages? I didn’t, and I’m not going to tell you how it’s done either because the author has done a brilliant job of how you can add meta description and meta keywords tag to the head section of your category pages.

OK, seeing as how this post is way too short even for me I want to leave you with a truly remarkable trick by Criss Angel.

I reckon ever since my famous post on why I will no longer link on A list blogs people are starting to realize how important my commentators are to me. I’ve actually done a whole heap of posts on the importance of commenting, inluding, Do You Want More People Commenting On Your Blog, Commentators, How Do I Reward Thee, Let Me Count The Ways and I’ve even done a post on the importance of Commenting Etiquette.

Those were just a few of the many posts that I’ve written on how important it is to not only get comments to your blog, but also how to treat those very special people who take the time to leave a comment.

The trouble is that not everyone is getting as many comments as they would like and this post will expose the top 7 reasons why people are not returning to comment on your blog.

  1. Your Blog Sucks: Sorry, but if you’re not going to spend the time going over your posts to make sure that it’s concise, makes sense to the average reader and is free of grammatical errors then people are’t going to comment. What’s that, you have comments? Then you are a dofollow blog and they’re only there for the link juice.
  2. You’re Not Comment Friendly: This applies to all those people who insist on having those impossible to read Captcha plugins. This also includes those people that insist you have to log in to leave a comment. Honestly if your content isn’t up to par do you honestly think people will jump hoops just to leave a comment.
  3. You Insist On Having A Blogger Blog: Ever since my post on why I Don’t Comment On Blogger Blogs I’ve discovered I’m not the only person who feels that way. If you have a blogger blog with lots of comments, imagine how much better you could do if you had a REAL blog? Don’t believe me, as some of those bloggers like Ching Ya who have made the move.
  4. You Don’t Reply To Comments:  Who the hell do you think you are, some snotty nosed A lister that you expect people to comment on your blog and yet you won’t take the time to reply to their comments. People love interaction and if you’re not giving them that don’t expect them to come back.
  5. You’ve Given Them Too Much Information: There are some blogs that I’ve read that are so long and tedious covering every point imaginable, that by the time I’ve finished reading it, if I haven’t dropped off to sleep, I’m too damn tired to leave a comment, even if there was something left for me to comment on. Honestly, it’s a whole lot better to leave your post open so that people have an opportunity to comment. In essence a there are times when less is best.
  6. You Don’t Use A Subscribe To Comment Plugin: Come on guys, wake up and smell the cyber roses. People are so busy commenting on other people’s blogs you don’t honestly believe that they are going to remember which blogs they’ve left a comment on? This plugin is a must as it will enable commenters to sign up for e-mail notification of any subsequent comment. A plugin of this sort is absolutely essential. I actually use the WP Threaded Comment plugin which allows you to edit the message sent to those who have left a comment.
  7. I’ll leave this one up to you:  What do you think is keeping people away from some blogs, or what keeps you away?

So, what do you think? How many of these apply to you, and if they do what are you going to do about it?

The SEO Importance Of Permalinks

When people first start up a WordPress blog they usually go for the default settings as this is by far the easier option. Unfortunately in certain cases it is the worst thing that you can do. This is especially so when configuring your permalink settings. I had completely forgotten about this until I read some of the comments on Understanding The New Rules Of SEO.

The problem arises in the fact that the default setting is http://wassupblog.com/?p=123 which shows the search engines that you have posted post # whatever but not much else. It makes more SEO sense to present to the search engines a lot more information such as the title of the post. While you can change the value midstream this can have disastrous results because all your pages that were previously indexed by the search engines become invalid. Not only that, if you are in the habit of linking to pages within your own blog, a good habit I might add, these also become invalid which would mean you going through all your posts and fixing up the links manually. A very boring and time consuming task, as can be attested by some of the commentators on the above post that I mentioned.

There is an easier solution, a plugin by Dean Lee called Permalinks Migration Plugin.  As the author states;

There is a way to tell the search engines (and browsers) that the page has permanently moved, and that the old address should be replaced by the new one . It’s called a “301 Redirect”, also known as a Permanent Redirect. When you do this, Search engines will update their indexes quickly and you won’t lose your pagerank.you will continue to receive traffic as though nothing had changed. This works for search engines, bookmarks, and links from other sites.

So, if you are having permalink problems or changing your permalink structure I  think you will find this plugin very useful.
