Making Money Online

Unlocking the world to financial success requires the right tools. Lacking the proper tools makes the journey that much harder and takes that much longer

I am going to show you the tools that I use, tools that actually improve your chances of making money online. Simply scroll through to learn which tools can help increase your online income!

Choose A Professional Theme

When blogging for money the most important item on your list should be a professional theme because like it or not they're going to judge you on how your blog looks. If you're like me you will want a theme that not only looks good it has to be easy to use as well.

I use the FlexSqueeze theme because I found it can do all the things I wanted it to do. This post gives you a sample of what FlexSqueeze is capable of.

Making Money With Amazon

The reason many people join Amazon as an affiliate is because of the range of products they have available for sale. My tool of choice as an Amazon affiliate would have to be WPZon Builder!

The post Why I Love WP Zon Builder gives you a sample of what this exceptional plugin is capable of. In short the main positives would have to be the ease of use and the ability to import the customer reviews into your post.

Choosing The Right Affiliate

Most people who make money online have hit on the right affiliate to promote. This particular Post will direct you to other posts that highlight some of the ways that I have made money online!

They also say the secret to making money online is choosing the right niche. One of the niches I've chosen to add to my online income has to do with the growing Online Lottery industry.

Reviewing MyLikes As An Advertiser

While I’ve done a couple of posts on MyLikes as a publisher I thought I would put them through their paces as an advertiser. Out of all the blogs I own the one that has proven to be the most difficult as far as promoting it goes has always been my Top Sexual Aids blog.  The main reason for this is obviously the content of the site and while there is nothing wrong with sex as a whole people get a little funny about it when it comes to talking about ways of making it better through sexual aids.

I did think about giving Google Adsense a go but when they emailed me saying they would no longer present ads on that site I thought better about giving them money to promote it. I mean how does that work, they’re too high and mighty to run ads on there but it’s quite OK to take my money as an advertiser? Not bloody likely.

Then I remembered MyLikes and so I decided to give them a go. Setting it all up was a real snap, as you can see from the following image all that is required is a little information about your campaign.

You can even set a sample tweet to give your publishers an example of what you are looking for. I left this blank as I wanted them to use their imagination. You also want to set your cost per click and your campaign budget. At first I tried  5 cents per click bu this created very little interest so I raised the stakes to 15 cent per click, which worked a whole lot better.

Another thing you may want to take note of is the section where it says ‘In what geographical locations do you want clicks from?’ I chose that I would only accept click from the US because I figured this was the best way to get more click per buck. This means that although I’m getting traffic from the rest of the world I’m only paying for those who live in the States. At least that’s how I think it works.

So, how did it all go. Let’s look at Google Analytic for the answer.

You can see where the campaign cut in, the apex peaked at 84 visits which is great because I was only getting a couple of visits a day if lucky. Once the campaign ended I was still getting about 10-20 visits a day. What was really surprising is that spike near the end where it got to almost 500 visits for the day. I can only assume that one of those Tweets got the attention of a Twitterer with a huge following who passed it on causing it to go viral.

Overall I am very pleased with the way MyLikes performed and I would highlight the fact that the possibility of your post going viral, and the ease of use makes it, in my opinion, vastly superior to Adsense. At the moment traffic is still pretty high, so much so that at the writing of this post it’s ranked #7 on Cool Blog Links, and that itself is pretty cool, not to mention the click through rate on the products/affiliates I have on that blog.

If you’re already a MyLikes member all you have to do is click on the Advertise link at the top of your page. If you’re not a member it would be a good idea to join because it’s a double edged sword that works in your favor. The first razor sharp edge slices open the purse strings leaving it wide open for your Twitter earnings to fall in and the second opens your site up exposing it to the greater market that is waiting for you.

How The Things I Like Can Make Me Money

When first starting this blog I wanted a medium that covered many topics. I wanted to be able to share my poems and short stories with people. I wanted to show others my blogging tips and tricks. I also want to share with others different ways that I have found of making money on the net.

When trialling these money making ideas there’s always one thing that I try to keep constant, and that is it has to be free to join. I figure that at least that way all that you can lose is a little time, and I don’t mind being the guinea pig as long as it helps my readers.

As you can probably tell this post is leading to another money making venture and while I would like to take the honor for discovering it, that honor belongs to John Sullivan of PotPolitics fame where you will learn so many things including how to really master blogging.

So, thanks to a Tweet from John I joined mylikes under him as a publisher, as you can also join as an advertiser.  One of the things that I like about this site is that it lets you pick the sponsors that you like. This means that you can choose only those sponsors that you like and are relevant to your audience.

I also like the fact that they protect their advertisers in that they can disapprove any ‘likes’ if for the following reason;

  • The advertiser feels that the Like is not relevant to your audience.
  • The advertiser feels that the Like is mispresenting the product or service.
  • The advertiser feels that the Like is too generic and is not descriptive of the product or service.
  • You have used hate speech / abuse / full capital letters to write your Sponsored Like.

This helps to keep publishers honest meaning the advertiser gets the most value for their dollar.

What I love most about this site is that they pay per click. If you’re like me and you’ve been promoting many affiliates for years you have to admit that the most disappointing thing is that while you may generate up to a hundred clicks on a particular ad, unless someone actually purchases something you don’t earn a damn thing. That’s not so with mylikes as they will pay you 30c per click. So where the other campaign netted you a big fat zero, if an ad through mylikes generates 100 clicks you will have earned $30! That’s so much better than earning nothing at all.

For my first ‘like’ I chose a site called Prova and I picked Twitter as my medium for advertising it. Another reason to be very careful which sites you ‘like’ is that it will be displayed on your MyLikes Page so that everyone can see the sites that you like and promote. Another way to keep publishers honest. This page allows you to embed a code on your site promoting your likes even further increasing your money making potential. The following shows you my first ever like.

The reason for picking Prova is because I found them to be quite unique. If you need someone to design anything including banners, car door magnets, billboards and even your own commercial. In their own words;

Getting a powerful ad designed at Prova is easy. We help you launch a contest to get the best design that meets your needs. Experienced designers from around the world will submit their unique designs to your contest to compete for the best possible design. Simply tell us what you want & pick the price you’re willing to pay.

The last point is very important as it means that you can never blow your budget. You pick how much you want to spend and that’s the maximum it will cost you.

As you know you can expect an update at a later date to see how mylikes is performing, but I honestly feel it is such a great deal that you should join me on this money making journey now rather than losing out on some earnings while waiting for my next update.

To those of you who have been emailing me for an update on my Sponsored Tweet post, where I show you how your Tweets can earn you money, I’m saving that for my next post :wink_ee:

Getting The Most From Your Ad Space

I’m a member of quite a few affiliates and what really pisses me off is those emails that state that one affiliate or another that I have been advertising has terminated their account and could I please remove their ad and replace it with another. The problem is, unless I have it on the home page or something, I don’t remember where the hell I’ve put the damn thing, and I’m not going to waste a day just looking for it.

That got the old brain a whirring as I just had to work out a way of being able to display ads but not having to worry about them folding on me. Then I remembered a feature of ClixGalore, one that until just before this post I was not making use of. The feature that I am talking about isn’t unique to them as there are a lot of other sites that utilize it, it’s just that I wasn’t taking advantage of it. I am talking about rotating ads. This is where you select those affiliates that you are interested in, you then enter the code into your blog with the knowledge that a new ad is shown every time the page is refreshed. Example below.

I’ve moved Amazon over to the right sidebar so that I can now display ClixGalore in a more prominent position. I’ve also chosen a variety of sizes, from skyscraper ads to the 125×125 ads to mix things up a bit. I like the fact that they have a selection of PPC ads available so that I know I will at least make something when someone clicks on an them. The best hing about it is that if an advertiser decides to pull out I needn’t worry anymore about those annoying emails as they are automatically removed from the rotation.

I’ve even decided to start up a comment profile so I can occasionally put one in a comment. When I get time I will set up different profiles so I can have one to promote different products for different occasions such as Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Christmas and even Thanksgiving for my mates in the States.

WassupBlog’s February Stats

I can’t believe that it’s already time to have a look at the February stats. I’m sure that as I get older time seems to go by a lot faster. It’s a pity that, because I always seem to be running out of that commodity lately.

Anyway, while it will be interesting to see these stats compares to the previous month, I take on this post with a little apprehension hoping that things have improved and not gone the other way. Oh well, no point worrying about it, lets get this thing done.

  • Adsense: $16.61
  • Voxsant: $0.23
  • Kontera: $0.28
  • Project Wonderful: $0.43
  • Clix Galore: $0.53
  • Chitika: $3.26
  • Freebies4Webmaster : 10 GBP
  • Infolinks: $0.0
  • Advertisers: $14
  • Paid Posts $90

TOTAL: $138.99

Man, what a let down.  Total, not including paid posts, of  $48.99 and although my paid posts went up 10 bucks, apart from Google everything else went down. It’s almost as if I was having my own mini economic meltdown.  I thought that the Infolinks results were weird, until I found that I did not transfer the code when I updated the theme. Oops! Oh well, at least it is fixed for next month.

Clix Galore was also down but that was because I didn’t actually produce any affiliate sales, the little that I did make was from PPC ads. Let’s hope that next month improves.

Doing Paid Posts And Not Getting Google Slapped.

I reckon it goes without saying that the amount of bloggers making a good living out of bogging via avenues such as Google Adsense or the various affiliates that they promote is quite minimal when compared to those of us who are plodding along trying to make enough to just cover our hosting and other expenses. The thing that these bloggers have over the rest of us is that they have taken the time to create a physical presence on the blogosphere, which has the added advantage of credibility when promoting affiliates, and the huge number of page views adds to their Adsense, Chitika or other PPC revenue. The question arises as to what we can do to ensure our blogs become more profitable.

The answer is a simple as doing paid posts. This is where we, as professional writers take on various tasks offered to us by advertisers who are willing to pay us to do a post advertising a product or service they are promoting. I did a post rating nine paid to post sites that act as a medium between bloggers and advertisers, something you may consider reading at a later date.

The problem with doing these sort of posts is that the almighty Google absolutely frowns on bloggers who decide to go this route and the punishment meted out to them is that they usually lose their Page Rank. It seems such a shame that we are denied a legitimate way of earning an honest income, but perhaps there are certain methods available to us that will allow us to take on paid posts without alerting Google through its sneaky spider bots. What a lot of bloggers have done in the past is to virtually stand there with their hands in the air shouting “Hey, look at me GoogleBots I’m doing paid posts, so there!” Naturally the bots do the thing they were designed for and report to their master resulting in all those bloggers getting Google Slapped.

The following are some of the steps you should take if you want to do paid posts and still keep your PR.

  1. Disclosure Policy: Whilst it is something you should have you should steer away from those generic policies that are copy and pasted into your blog as well as those auto generated ones that are offered by certain websites. Brian of That’s Right I Said It fame did a post on one such service titled Your Disclosure Policy In Minutes. It’s way better to make one up using your own words than to use these prefabricated ones.
  2. Sponsored Post: Many bloggers use these words to show their readers that the post is sponsored, well I reckon you are highlighting it to Google as well. Perhaps something along the lines of, “This post brought to you from our friends at so and so” would be better and changing it every now and again would also be a good idea.
  3. Hire Me Badges: You’ve seen them, bloggers proudly portraying to the world that they are for hire, which is fine if you don’t mind being Google Slapped, but if you do then do not use these or those get paid to posts badges on your blog.

Ok, that’s my top three methods of laying low and not making it obvious to Google that you are doing paid posts. What are some of the methods that you use?
