Does Google Control Your Blog?

This may be a strange question, but it is one that I often ask myself, especially after checking out a lot of blogs and reading what they have to say. It seems that a lot of the time bloggers are simply struggling to appease the big boys at Google. Sure they try and produce quality content, but they also try and saturate it with what they hope to be good keywords and sometimes this affects the quality of the post as the keywords become more important than the content of the post.

So I had to ask myself, ‘Am I after that all important PR?’ In a way I suppose the answer would have to be yes, but the question is, how far am I willing to go to get it? It’s obvious that the road to a high PR means that I should curtail to Google’s wishes but is it worth it? Let’s look at some of the things that they say a blog should be to obtain a good PR.

  1. No-Follow: Apparently this is a biggy because if you change your blog to a do-follow blog they reckon that you will leak  your PR to all your commentators. So, do I reward my commentators or should I make Google happy by changing my blog to a no-follow blog? As my commentators are so important to me, after all, the whole idea of the posts are to solicit comments, my blogs will stay as a do-follow blogs.
  2. Paid Posts: Now I know that Google hates blogs that take paid posts opportunities because I was one of the bloggers who lost all his PR for doing so. By Paid posts I mean those bloggers, such as myself, who do posts for sites like PayPerPost, PayU2Blog and the like, but did I do what a lot of other bloggers did after being Google slapped and remove all my paid posts? No Way! It’s my blog and I should be able to run it the way I see fit. Heck, as long as I don’t post crap relating to porn and stuff why should they care if someone wants to pay me for doing a post for them. Whatever happened to free speech?
  3. KeyWord Stuffing: Having the right keywords in your title and post is important if you want to get noticed by all the major search engines. If you get this right it will have a direct result on your SERP (search engine results page) and you could well end up on the front page of the search engines. The thing is that you do not want to take it to the point that the keywords become more important than the topic as it will wreak havoc on the quality of your post. Phew, that’s one thing I don’t have to worry about as I find that doing keyword research is a bore and takes the fun out of blogging. What I usually do is construct the post first and then as I’m proof reading I pick out some words that I feel may make good keywords, so in essence the post comes first and the keywords second.

Hopefully this is making sense. I am not trying to convince anyone on how they should run their blog, heaven forbid. I am merely trying to state my personal view that as far as I am concerned I will only go so far to appease the Google Big Wigs. If I feel that any of their rules affect the integrity of my posts and personal views, then as far as I am concerned I will no-follow those rules.

Is Chitika Better Than Google Adsense?

The answer to this question will probably differ from blogger to blogger and so I can only divulge my actual experience over the last couple of months. If you recall my previous post, Chitika Has Proven That Their Ads Truly Work, where I was giving my opinion on Chitika as an extra avenue for monetizing you blog, I only had a months worth of data to go on. What surprised me was that in the first month they actually matched the revenue that I earned from Google!

After checking my earnings over the last month I noticed that Google went down by 50% but Chitika went up by 50%! Without divulging the actual amounts let me give you an example of the breakdown.

Month 1                     Month 2

Google                             $10                            $5

Chitika                             $10                            $15

This shows that Chitika has actually outperformed Google and that my actual earnings had doubled over those normally taken by relying on Google Alone. So, is it better? Certainly the answer this month would have to be yes, but only time will tell whether or not it can continue to do so.

WassupBlogs New PageRank Is Now PR2

Now isn’t that a pleasn’t surprise, to wake up the other day and notice that I have received a PR2 in such a short time. The thing is that while this blog’s PR went up a couple of my other ones went down, especially my What a Load Of Bullshit blog, that went for PR3 to PR0?

It sort of left me wondering as to how Google comes up with their rankings and also as to why they may downgrade a blog or website. They say that every cloud has a silver lining, and the silver lining for the downgrade was that it allowed me to come up with Ten Reasons Why Google Took My PR! Man I just love having a go at Google.

Joining The Crazy Blogging For Money Train

Once you’ve been surfing the net for awhile you tend to notice that just about everybody is trying to make some cash and they are usually trying to con people like you and me out of our hard earned cash. There is one simple rule that I go buy and that is, if it sounds too good to be true, it generally is. The thing is that you can make money on the net and you don’t have to rip people off to do it.

An honest way of earning some spare cash on the Internet is by blogging. Now don’t you give me that, ‘that’s bullshit’ look because it’s true and some blog like Problogger.net are bringing in over $100,000 per year! Before you get your hopes too high, very few of us will get to see that sort of cash, but that is no reason why we shouldn’t strive for those heights and take whatever falls in your lap.

In your efforts of trying to get your hands on some of that Blogging Cash that’s circulating around the World Wide Web keep in mind that it is not an easy road and it will take a fair bit of hard work. Most bloggers become disillusioned when the money doesn’t start rolling in straight away and give up before they have even given blogging a decent chance.

When starting your first blog it is important for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) reasons that you think carefully about the name you choose for your blog. This particular LINK will take you to a pretty good article that explains the importance of keywords.

So, how do blogs produce money? One thing that just about every blogger incorporates on their blogs are things like Google Adsense but unless you’re pulling in thousands of daily visitors you’re only going to get pocket change. Many bloggers will also promote affiliates that have joined and some will do quite well at it. For this particular post I want to concentrate on paid posts.

Many companies recognize that because of the myriad of bloggers that are out there that they represent a huge advertising medium, one that is very affordable. These guys are willing to pay bloggers to do posts that promote either a product or a service and the amount can range anywhere from $5 to hundreds of dollars per post. Don’t expect to get the big bucks though unless you blog as a PR7+ ranking.

Some sites that you can join that act as a mediator between bloggers and advertisers are.

  1. Blogitive.com This is a fantastic site. Unfortunately they will not accept new blogs so you will have to work at it for awhile getting exposure. More on this later. Blogitive does have one requirement and that is that all blogs put their feeds through FeedBurner.com. This is a free service, and will assure that your blog’s content is syndicated through the Web effectively. They pay $5 a post. This is an example of a Blogitive post.
  2. Blogsvertise.com is another company that allows you to generate extra income from your blog. You can actually set your limit between $5 – $10 per post. Naturally if you select the lower amount you will get extra tasks. The reason you will get paid for the posts is because Advertisers want you to talk about their websites and products etc. in your blog. This is an example of a Blogsvertise post.
  3. Blogging Ads is another great site that will help you make money while blogging. This one is unique in that they will offer you the choice of either selecting one of their ads (a simple cut and paste job) or you can write one of your own. A Blogging Ad example.
  4. Review Me This site allows bloggers to get paid to review products and services on your site. You actually control what you review. You can submit your site for free and if accepted you can get paid from $20 – $200 for each review. No examples for this one as I haven’t been accepted yet.
  5. PayPerPost is a fantastic site with lots of opportunities to make money. You can do three posts per day and the amount of money per post can depend on your Google PR rating. I’ve seen posts advertised for Bloggers with a PR7 where advertisers were paying $1000 for one post.

I do have one word of warning though for those of you who have done the hard yards and have gotten a good PR, and that is that Google does not look kindly on bloggers that do paid posts. Google has actually been known to penalize these sorts of bloggers by reducing their PR, two of mine went from PR4 to PR0. Personally I start several new blogs and slowly build up their PR and use these to do your paid posts.
