Maybe they don't bother because they don't realise how important thumbnails are, or perhaps it's because it's all too hard. For years I've been using the Graphics Creator and I've been more than happy with the results. The problem is there are so many users, over 2.5 billion monthly active users to be more precise. So, how do we get those viewers to see our videos? We all have to deal with YouTube's algorithm. The most important thing, before even making a thumbnail, is to come up with a great title that includes keywords that will get us above the fold. When I say above the fold that's the first videos presented to you by YouTube. Below the fold are all the other videos. Most folk don't scroll too far down so you want to make sure your video comes up near the top. If you get it above the fold you've done really well. I used to struggle with finding the right keywords until I started using TubeBuddy. Even with Tubebuddy you don't always get above the fold and I attribute that the YouTube bosses who favour the top creators more giving them the prime position. unfortunately there isn't much you can do about that.
