StumbleUpon My Social Media Of Choice

There are lots of ways to share your favourite posts. Some people Tweet them. Some like to share them with their FaceBook buddies. Because of the SEO benefits of having images in your posts there are a lot of bloggers out there happily sharing their stuff with Pinterest as well. Personally I like to share my posts with all of them but my favourite is StumbleUpon. If you”re not a member you can join here.

Wikipedia says…

StumbleUpon is a discovery engine (a form of web search engine) that finds and recommends web content to its users. Its features allow users to discover and rate Web pages, photos, and videos that are personalized to their tastes and interests using peer-sourcing and social-networking principles.

Toolbar versions exist for Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, Internet Explorer, and Safari. StumbleUpon also works with some independent Mozilla-based browsers.

The thing is StumbleUpon is not really a form of search engine. I know I’ve never used it to search for stuff, although I’m sure there are a lot of people out there who do.

Speaking of sharing your own stuff, there are some out there, like my mate Mitch, who don’t feel comfortable about Liking Their Own Stuff. Me, I have no trouble at all being the first person to share one of my posts.

StumbleUpon, Why I Like Them

StumbleUpon

There’s actually a few reasons I like StumbleUpon.

  • You don’t have to give a description of what you are sharing, although I do when sharing my own posts because I feel it creates more interest.
  • Unlike sites like Twitter and FacceBook, you don’t need a huge following to generate ‘Likes” I’m sure my poor so called social media skills and small followings is the main reason why I don’t get as many likes or tweets as I do stumbles.
  • This leads to my favourite reason for liking StumbleUpon! It’s because Stumblers are more likely to share your posts. This is of course as long as you post something that they feel is worth sharing.

The other day I decided to start a Sports Jokes section on my latest niche blog, EZ eSports Betting blog. I decided to do that because of how much traffic Friday Funnies brings to this blog. I decided to share my first Sports Joke using my favourite Social Media sites, and which one do you think got the most shares and generated the most traffic? You guessed it, StumbleUpon!

  1. Hi Peter,
I’m a huge fan of StumbleUpon and I “stumble” a lot! It’s a great way to get notified of posts that I would not have found otherwise and (more importantly to me) StumbleUpon is one of my top sources of referral traffic!

  2. Twitter:
Yes, I admit I send all my stuff from 1KSmiles and my other sites t Pinterest but I think, based on your recommendations (note the plural?) that I will have to get on board with Stumble.
Ugh, So much time and so little to do. Wait a minute. Strike that. Reverse it. LOL!

  3. The way I see social media is that it is something I need to do. I don’t actually believe that it works for my websites. So, I always look at easy solutions and I find Stumbleupon is very easy to use.

  4. I’ve recently started using stumbleupon, and while I haven’t been getting that much traffic as I do from other social media such as Twitter and Facebook (and even Pinterest), I think it has its place too for traffic. I just have to learn how to make full use of it.

      1. Very active on twitter (over 1200 followers) and facebook (about 500 friends) and I share my content regularly.

  5. Twitter:
It is a good idea to research what Social media you are using, and for whom. Profiles of SM users are different from each other, and StumbleUpon is very good for those prospects that like articles, as opposed to pictures, or short bulletins – Pinterest and Twitter.

  6. Hey peter, So far stumble upon gave me the highest referral traffic. It is the best. Thanks for sharing it.

  7. Strangely I get more visitors from Stumbleupon than Google. I personally love the site. With experience I can say that if your content is good it gets viral pretty soon on Stumbleupon.

    1. Twitter:
Never had much luck with Digg, although Reddit has worked pretty well. The only problem with Reddit is they don’t like you promoting your own posts.

  8. Thank you for an interesting review – will try stumble upon now. For now twitter seemed to be the easiest and most convenient social media for me. Earlier I tried Facebook and Google + and they are good, but for long, meaningful content.

  9. Twitter:
So based on your recommendations I started using StumbleUpon and posted 8 posts from my 1KSmiles.com blog. the next day I got almost 200 referrals from StumbleUpon. Not too shabby eh?

That’s pretty good Troy. Good to see that you gave it a go and that it all went well.
