Reality TV And How It Is Corrupting Society

I don’t know about you guys but I dislike reality TV shows, I could almost go so far as to say that I hate reality TV shows. Although it’s existed for quite awhile it probably didn’t really take off until Big Brother aired in 1999, and I am ashamed to admit that I actually watched that, and was amused by it, the first time around. I can’t explain it, more likely than not I was sucked in by the pleasurable looks emitted by the rest of the family.

Now reality TV is all but taking over all programming space available. We have Survivor, The Biggest Loser which is about a bunch of people trying to lose weight when in reality the biggest losers are the morons watching it. Let’s not even go into Dancing With The Stars, which ain’t half bad if you like perving at scantily clad women, The Apprentice, Fear Factor and the list goes on, and on and on.

I must admit when I heard that there was a tragic bus accident in California that involved a whole heap of sluts that were about to star in the new VH1 reality series The Road To Knoxville where 18 scantily clad women, no wonder they say sex sells, vie for the heart of stuntman Johnny Knoxville.

I was shocked when I saw the following clip and almost did not post it because it was so horrifying, but then thought that people had the right to know what was happening in the world around them. A word of warning to those who are offended by slutty behavior including tit flashing and the use of the F Bomb.

Oh, about the heading, it didn’t really have anything to do with the post, I just wanted to get your attention. Don’t forget to tweet this baby if you thought it made your day.

  1. Very funny. Probably closer to reality than most would like though.

And yes, reality TV sucks big time – the TV producers should be forced to create proper programmes rather than these piles of concentrated crap.
    .-= ray´s last blog ..1.1 – The Passenger =-.

    1. Hey Ray, I thought so. Even though we don’t like reality shows, mate, I reckon we’re in the minority otherwise it would have died out long ago.

      1. Your right Sire. We have so many of these shows because they are popular (and I suspect cheap to produce.)

I don’t watch much TV but I certainly don’t waste my time watching that kind of stuff. I come here to waste my time :clap_tb:
.-= Ned Carey´s last blog ..What Is Hard Money? =-.

        1. Good to see a bloke who knows where to go to waste time Ned :tongue_wink_ee:

  2. I am appalled and disgusted by the inappropriate use of the term slut. I was expecting a video of some dreadful toxic waste polluting a site of special scientific interest. Instead I had to watch a WHOLE 2.5 minutes of scantily clad attractive young women gallivanting across a public highway.

Sluts are an endangered species and should be on the WWWWWWF protected list. Instead I see a dreadful waste of prime slut. They could have been injured or harmed, they were unsupervised or protected in any way shape or form. I am a qualified, long experienced slut ranger.

Please ask VF1 to contact me for advice whenever they need to transport sluts in bulk at any time in the future.
.-= Paul Wilson´s last blog ..Secret Tip on How To Get A Free Radio Commercial =-.

    1. Hey Paul, I didn’t mind the gallivanting, but I really liked the ones that were pole dancing the light post.

I’m not sure that saying sluts are an endangered species is entirely accurate. :laugh_tb:

      1. Actually, sluts are a renewable resource and they should be harnessed. Just 2 sluts fighting over which of them is most pregnant by the same man can produce enough electricity to power a strip club for a week.
        .-= ray´s last blog ..1.1 – The Passenger =-.

        1. Now that is what I call green power. :laugh_tb:

  3. I was there and actually caught one of them. Not sure what to feed it though. Maybe a piece of Italian sausage.
.-= Anthony @ Innovatively Simple´s last blog ..Dig Your Well Before You’re Thirsty =-.

    1. Say, I have Italian blood in me, do you think they would want my sausage? :ponder_tb: Damn, you were talking about that store bought stuff weren’t you :laugh_tb:

  4. “TV producers should be forced to create proper programmes rather than these piles of concentrated crap” – Thats true, but who can do it? They are one of the most influential people.

    1. We can do it because they produce what the public wants to see. If people stopped watching this crap they would stop producing it.

    2. Proper programmes! No way! That doesn’t sell. :)

  5. Likes and dislikes vary from person to person. What I intend to say is that if I like something, it does not necessarily mean that it is good/ best. It’s just a matter of preference or taste. You dislike reality shows for a reason. However, I do admit that in the name of entertainment, few shows do take it very far and cross limits of decency and morality.

    1. Yep, everyone is different and there is no accounting for taste. Reckon it’s not their fault that they haven’t acquired the good taste that I was born with. :tongue_wink_ee:

  6. Sire that video freaked me out. I am just so thankful that it did not crash near us in Vegas. I couldn’t imagine anymore of that crap leaking into our water system, food supply, or STD clinics.
I have a daughter to think about & I do not want her infected by whatever they have.
    .-= Sheryl @Blogger Forum´s last blog ..Joining Google’s PageRank N/A Club =-.

    1. Yeah, that’s for sure Sheryl. You had better keep an eye on here just in case one of them happens to evade being caught and end up in Vegas.

  7. You just give me a good fun Sire. I don’t like realty show much except those comedy one. Thanks for sharing that video.

    1. No worries Arafat, glad you got a kick out of it.

  8. OK I watched the new one last night, Undercover Boss, only because it was 1800Flowers. I used to work for them and knew them….pretty good stuff actually.
.-= Dennis Edell @ Direct Sales Marketing´s last blog ..DEDC Remains DoFollow – BUT… =-.

    1. Never heard of it Dennis. Lucky for me the great distance between our two countries does at time protect us from certain programs :wink_ee:

      1. Oh trust me man, I hate more then you do. lol

This one though, where the boss of a company works undercover within his/her own company to see what’s right/wrong, etc seems pretty cool…funny as hell at the end when they reveal themselves.
.-= Dennis Edell @ Direct Sales Marketing´s last blog ..New Updated Long Detailed Comment Policy Coming very SOON! Among Others… =-.

        1. OK, if it ever comes to Australia I may watch it for a bit just so I can give you my opinion of it. :wink_ee:

  9. When reality TV shows just started, it made some sense, since they discover talents and help them to develop it, which atleast help some people to realize their dreams, but now it being abused with different reality shows coming up. The last time i watched Big brother, i didn’t see any value in it. Let’s just say i support a reality TV show that sincerely help people in some way, American idol is one very good one. The contestants when chosen can hardly complete a verse of a song but when they are leaving, they are like professionals and i’m always impressed. The truth is now people just start reality TV shows because they want to make money since they heard Mr. B made it big with the reality show he organized.Such people are really reducing the value of reality TV shows

    1. I don’t actually mind the Idol type shows as like you said they help people fulfill a dream, but I still won’t watch it. It’s more the survivor, wife swap crap that I don’t like.

      1. Hey i find the wife swap very interesting! Come on, they allow you to experience what life could be like with another woman for one week! What i like most about it is the little twist to it about the $50,000 (hope i’m right with that figure), the other wife gets to decide how the money is spent. That always create a lot of tension that i love. And i have also find that it helps some homes, the other wife trys to make peace in the family where they have problems and it’s also good for partners who at some point have wondered if their life would have been better with another woman. I think at the end it helps partners appreciate themselves better, which is a good thing, except the tension it creates about how the $50,000 is spent. I wonder how the organizers can give away such amount of money though, how do they make profit?

        1. Actually the first time I watched it I didn’t think it was all that bad but once you’ve seen a couple it all went down hill from there on.

As for them making profit I reckon it’s all to do with sponsorship of some sort.

  10. You are surely entitled to an opinion. This post calls for a debate. On one side, one would favour the reality TV shows and may speak a word or two on demerits of censorship. Contradictorily, another would speak on the dirty or senseless content of these shows, aimed at providing cheap entertainment. I say that the content of these shows needs to be monitored so as not to affect the sensibilities of the impressionable minds.

    1. I reckon that responsibility rides on the shoulders of the parents. The most a station can do is to televise it at a late hour hoping those young minds would be in bed.

  11. ‘American Idol’ is my favorite reality production — if it is really a reality show. It is just wonderful to watch all the competitors develop their singing skills and intensify their stage presence as the season progresses.

Oh, you meant that we should say some we don’t like, and explain why.

The popularity of reality shows could be frightening — to Hollywood

    !!

    1. Heck I know there are more that like it than dislike it and that’s fine, I just found the clip and thought I would use it to have a little fun with the post.

  12. hahah! I went into your post on a serious note and finished laughing my head off! Great post:)

    1. Thanks Thomas, while I do have my share of serious posts I also like to have fun, and I’ve found that when I have fun it provides a lot to the blog’s entertainment value.

  13. I was never much of a TV fan myself. Too many other things to keep me amused. I find it kind of surprising that the Actor’s Guild or whoever it is that regulates the hiring of the people that “play” in those shows, doesn’t put a limit on the array of air time they gobble up. If all TV became reality TV, acting may just fall by the wayside like some newspapers claim they have. Just my “humble” opinion, Sire:)

P.S. I passed on the video, I just had my lunch:)

    1. That’s what I like about Pay TV, there is always something to watch. The only way reality TV will die down is when people stop watching it.

  14. Hi Sire,
I can say one thing.. I never know what you’ll do next. And I hate to admit it even though the language is low – it was too funny!!!!
    Thanks for the laugh :-D

  15. Honestly I think who has the time to watch reality tv has no own real life!! Otherwise you would not watch it. :)

    1. Obviously way too many people, otherwise we would have seen it’s demise by now.

  16. This video starts off real good and even looks like a real news channel broadcasting those sensationalized news updates, but thanks to the poor direction skills and lame actors it makes me confident that this is totally fake. I cannot understand why the channels need to go to such low levels just to increase their viewership. It is high time that shows like these are brought under strict scrutiny. Heavy fines should be imposed in order to curb such actions.

    1. Unfortunately as long as people watch this type of thing they will keep producing it.

  17. Oh that video made my night! Funny stuff hee hee. Yep, I definitely agree that Reality TV sucks big time!!! It’s almost always about a bunch of dummy bimbo’s or spoiled brats. Really pathetic in my book.

Anyway, thanks for sharing the video. It’s more real than people may know.

    btw retweeted :)

    1. Glad you liked it Dev.

  20. There’s quite a bit of variety in reality tv now. Most of it is silly, but at least it is not all about people living in houses and such. There needs to be a new fad for television.

    1. Yep, what we need is entertainment. I much prefer watching drama, comedy or something. Anything but reality TV.

  21. I was intrigued by the topic but then nearly fell for the ‘news’ until the anchor mentioned the s word (don’t get to hear that much on TV news broadcasting). lol. You sounded so ‘serious’ before the clip and I was expecting an horrific accident or some sort, nearly passed as I’m about to have lunch in 5 minutes! :P But no, it didn’t help much in my appetite. lol.

  24. Hi Sire
Just by coincidence “Gritain’s got talent” is back on UK television.
The viewing figures will be huge!
We appear to delight in watching these sad souls look foolish.
Don’t know what it’s all about, but I must admit… I did watch a bit of it.
.-= Keith Davis@public speaking´s last blog ..Flying in formation =-.

    1. Must admit Keith if there is absolutely nothing on I have been known to watch Australia’s Got Talent, but that is as far as it goes. :cheese1_ee:

  25. I like reality TV because watching the dumb people on there makes me feel better about myself. Other than that satisfying feeling, I agree that there is way too much reality going on TV.

    1. That must be why I don’t like it Aaron, I already feel pretty good about myself. lol

  26. Reality shows piss me off for the most part, I hate how everything has to be drama filled and the constant fake cliff hanger crap. There’s a few that I will watch but it’s limited.

As for the slut video thats very sad to see all of that leak out onto the road that way, haha. Classic. The female newscasters advice at the end cracks me up.

    1. I’m glad you liked it John. After getting the file in an email I knew there would be others out there who would like it, all I had to do was work a post around it.

  27. I love me some reality shows not all. Some are just way to sh***y for my liking. You could try Reality Hell on E!. Girls of the Playboy Mansion just got BORING with those twins. It will never be the same without Kendra, Holly and Bridget.

Scantily clad females or not, sex sells and we’ve all got to deal with it by either watching in silence or glee or changing the freaking channel.

So I’m off to watch another rerun of Kimora, Life on the fab lane. lol
