I’m not one for running contests, probably because the ones I have run have failed miserably
but I do like to promote those that I feel some of my readers will appreciate. This contest is run by MyDomain and it’s all about Your Domain!
From what I can gather it’s all about promoting your domain. It’s open to all US residents and the prizes are $1000 Apple gift cards. Naturally there has to be something in it for MyDomains, and that something is exposure of the .ME extension for domain names. This is great for those who are thinking of a particular domain only to find that it’s been taken by somebody else. So if yourdomain.com is not available why not go for yourdomain.me before someone else takes it?
Come to think of it, a .me domain sounds pretty cool, especially if you were going to use your name as the domain.

.me hasn’t really caught up yet. When I was registering my domain I thought of getting a .me domain but then decided to just go with the .com

I reckon that .com is still the way to go, but if your favorite .com domain is gone then I reckon a .me domain wouldn’t be a bad second choice.

Interesting way to have a contest; I’d never heard of .me domains.

I think it’s pretty new Mitch, and I wouldn’t be surprised if people snapped up their favorite domains before they missed out again.

Do you think .ME will become popular? I was lucky enough to get myname.com. I know a lot of people who weren’t so lucky. I saw a story about a college accepting video applications. I want to take it the next step and build a website for my sister who will be applying for college in two years. A website with her name and then a video and some info. What are your opinions?

Personally Anthony, I feel that myname.whatever is important when picking a domain name. If myname.com is gone I feel it will default to the next myname domain, whether it’s .me, .info .au or whatever. In other words myname.me would fare a lot better than say mynameiscool.com.
Always quick to respond with a good response. I love it.

I try
No good for either of us, because we are not US residents.

Yep, the contest is pretty useless to us Pete, but the .me domains are always an option if wished to go that route.
I don’t see them getting too too popular, as I only really see them useful for personal name sites.

Okay let me try to do that again as my comment just disappears without telling me if its under moderation or not.
So what will they think of next? .you?

I had to pull all your comments out of Akisnet’s spam folder. Reckon you must have upset someone Michael.
As to the .you domain, it’s possible but I reckon the market for that would be minimal.
I appreciate it to the core Sire. Besides that $1000 apple gift card is definitely luring and attractive. Unfortunately, I couldnt participate because of hailing from NZ, but I will share it with my friends. I guess I have to brainstrom for some .me ideas. Thanks for promoting this.

No worries Mark, and I know what it’s like being an Aussie and all. I reckon any US friends you have would love to enter the competition.
So looking at this contest I guess it is alright. Seems like a gimic for people to use .me domains. The only problem is that .me domains are not really trusted. How many times in your life have you been to a .me domain when you searched something on google.
To be honest with you if I see anything other than .com .gov or .net I do not really trust it. So I guess it is not bad if you are interested in entering the contest but outside of them I am not really sure of the worth.
Just my 2 cents

That could be because .me is relatively new and you may well find more of them coming up in searches as time go by.
Very true man. Looking for good giveaways they are hard to come by. lol
It will be interesting to see what happens as the .com industry is about exhausted and people are not using easy to remember domain names anymore.
Only time will tell I guess. Everyone is becoming more internet savvy so this will help this transition I believe.

Yeah, I have to admit some of these .com names that people come up with have me scratching my head.
