My Venture Into Becoming A YouTube Star

If you haven’t worked it out yet let me just tell you that I love jokes. I love them so much that when I hear a good one I just have to tell all my mates about it. You’ve obviously read a lot of them on this very blog and you’ve even watched me tell one ages ago. That particular one was a little crude but I loved telling it, especially to my female friends. In case you haven’t seen it you can view it, and see the comments of what people thought of it, by visiting my Sire’s ‘Ice Breaker’ Pick Up Line post.

That post is nearly three years old which means this next video has been a long time coming. Before we get to that I want to tell you that I plan to do a whole series of these videos. Why do you ask? That’s a fair question and basically it’s because I want to see if I can gain a YouTube following. I’ve already got a small following when it comes to blogging, something that continues to amaze me and I’m just wondering if I can do the same thing with YouTube.

Naturally if that turns out to be successful it will have a natural flow on effect that will build my online presence. To achieve that I’m planning a series of me telling different jokes. They say when blogging you should choose a subject that you’re passionate about and I see no reason why YouTube should be any different. I love telling jokes, I’ve learnt a fair few of them over the years and it seems only natural that I share them with people using YouTube as the medium.

The Old Man, The Ferrari And The Maserati

This particular joke goes way back to when I used to be in high school, that’s some thirty-five years ago. I’m hoping it is so old that many of you have forgotten and the rest of you haven’t heard of it. :smile2_ee:

Somethings you should know.

  • I did it in one take
  • I ad-libbed some of it because I did the whole thing on the fly, no preparation whatsoever as I wanted it to be as natural as possible.

OK, without further ado here is the video.

The thing with YouTube videos is that unless you promote them they will pretty well go unnoticed. Unfortunately I don’t have the time to go and promote every video that I do which is why I am going to rely on you, my loyal readers to help me. After you’ve watched the video I’d appreciate it if you would head on over there and give it the thumbs up. If you liked it you could even leave a comment.

I’ve always believed in the you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours philosophy so I’ll be more than happy to do the same for you’re video if you have one. Just leave a link to your video in the comments section of this post with your YouTube name, for verification purposes, and I’ll return the favour. Any other promotional methods you could use such as a tweet, google + or whatever would also be really appreciated. :thumbup_tb:

    1. The plan is one thing Ana and the video another. One thing won’t work without the other. What did you think of the video?

  1. I love your Aussie hat :D

I’m still learning how use YouTube to get more visitor, there are a lot competitors nowadays

    1. Yeah, that’s my lucky Akubra hat by RM Williams.

What I want to know Albert is what did you think of the video? The whole purpose of this post was to get peoples reaction to the video.

      1. Gidday – just found you after a page I put on MY blog, that linked to a page on Ana Hoffman’s blog – showcasing ComLuv enabled blogs. You made her list…

If the Akubra hat didn’t give you away as an Aussie, then the accent and the singlet sure did!

        Nice idea with the vid….

        1. Gidday Bruce, hows it going mate? :smoke_tb:

Yeah, the Akubra hat will do it every time, it just needs a few corks :winkle:

I knew I was on Ana’s list. Nice of her to do that and nice of you to stop by and leave a comment.

  2. :)
Oh the poor man, I guess the honking went out the window, eh? That’s funny…

I can’t remember if I need to log on to like it on YouTube, but I’ll pop by there and do that now.

    1. Yep, never trust a rev head Opal. So glad you liked the video and thanks so much for visiting my YouTube channel.

  3. I love that joke. It’s the best one in my repertoire except I learned it with a Porsche, classic! :biggrin_wp:

    1. Yeah, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a Ferrari when I d=first heard it Roz, but like I said I ad-libbed a bit of it. :smile2_ee:

    1. Hey Larry,

MS is a great product. Glad you liked the joke mate and thanks for commenting and giving it a plug.

  4. Sire you did a good job for one take and for a guy that took a 3yr haitus from telling jokes infront of the YouTube crowd, that’s 7 out of 10 :)

But what’s up with the dark glasses? was the sun right there in the room with ya? I am so jealous watching you talk about scorching weather when it is freezing cold over here :(.

I recently started making YouTube videos and I’m loving it. The YouTube crowd are in a league of their own and they are merciless so make sure your comeback is with a thick skin. I wish you luck in your quest to conquer YouTube.

    1. Hey Flo,

the glasses and the hat are just part of the act, so to speak, as is the way I am talking. Do you think it would be better if I ditch them and just be me?

  5. Twitter:
Through the years, I have made many promotions on Youtube and other video sharing websites, however it have always been in form of presentation or footage from real life. Currently preparing series of tutorials related to web design and development, but most likely I will just appear on the screen and have professional voice over as I am not native English speaker.

    1. I think a series of tutorials is a great idea Kal. :thumbup_tb:

  6. Sire,
just tell me why are you not approving my comments. Either do you have personal bias with me. It is not fair to do this one. i am reading your blog on daily basis. This is my last comment and i will exit reading your blog thanks.

    1. Sara, all comments are automatically approved unless they go to spam which is where I pulled this from.

      1. Thanks a lot for accepting my comment. Sorry for my angry because i do not know they are going to spam. Again Thanks.
Sara Angel recently posted…Magnifying Glass 10xMy Profile

        1. That’s OK Sara, but a word of warning, I will delete comments that I feel are substandard and add nothing to the post.

  7. That’s an interesting approach to video promotion. I think video promotion feels a little like the Wild West!

    1. What approach is that Michael?

  8. Lol I believe you have what it takes to make your Youtube debute and stand out on the YouTube red carpet. Also you can try to post some of the jokes videos in response to some of the most watched videos on YouTube, this will get you more attention.

    1. Thanks for that Laura. Glad you liked it.

    2. Twitter:
I agree with Laura. Its a trick many youtuber use. They reply to related popular videos by posting their own videos. It may just give you a push Peter.
Anyway, I gave it a thumbs up. Hope that helps.

      1. How exactly do they do that? So they post a link to their video in the comment section of a related video?

  9. Hi Sire! You have the talent to make people laugh! That was a great funny joke. I wish you all the luck on becoming a big YouTube star. :king_tb:

    1. Funny enough to recommend it to your friends Nick :wink_ee:

  10. Twitter:
I remember that last video Sire, it’s been three years already? Wow! Anyway, I like your down-under Hollywood look. Future star for sure. I’ll subscribe to your channel if I haven’t already. If we get to vote, I cast mine for more videos.

    1. Yeah, time sure does move pretty fast, that’s for sure, especially as you get older :laugh_tb:

As for the look, you don’t think I should give it away and just be myself?

      1. Twitter:
I’m convinced that is the real you so, by all means, be yourself.

        1. Actually Brian, there is a bit of an act going on. Maybe I’ll be the real me and see how people like it.

  11. Haha! Love the joke! I don’t think I’m brave enough to make a video and post it on Youtube.. I envy you Sire! Keep up the good job!

    1. It’s not hard at all. It’s not like I have an audience when I do it. :wink_ee:

  12. Unfortunately is very hard to make it on youtube these days. Most people from the top 100 are cheating a lot by buying likes and views. Don’t get me wrong, I love youtube, I get almost everything from youtube: music, news, entertainment but its 100 times harder to make it there and get views/subscribers compared with blogs for example.

    1. Hey Cristian, I don’t want to get there by cheating, I want to get there on my own merits.

Even if YouTube falls through I still have my blogs and that’s all that matters.

  13. Sire,

I love it. It’s appropriate because I just got back from India. They have both pedal and motorized three wheelers all over there. And they are always honking.

Of course the three wheelers there actually can pass cars because the traffic is so bad. :laugh_tb:

I was wearing a hat like yours on the trip. – It made me want to talk with an Aussie accent :thumbup_tb:

    1. Hey Ned, that is quite a coincidence. Glad you liked the joke and sure hope you enjoyed your time in India. I assume you took a lot of photos while you were there?

      1. Yes Sire I took lots of photos. I have a new phone camera, I need to figure how to get it from the phone to someplace useful. :ponder_tb:

        1. I reckon that’s what the manuel is for Ned :lol_ee:

  14. I love youtube, mostly when i dont understand something or there is an episode of my favorite show, I can rely on youtube and also I use youtube to promote some of my blogs and do some advertisement… its really effective…. :)

    1. Yep, it can be a bit of an all rounder, thats for sure.

  15. I love YouTube and it truly is still a goldmine waiting to be plucked by experienced marketers. You can make a video much easier today than you used to be able to do.

    1. That’s for sure, what with you being able to use smart phones and devices like the flip video and such being so affordable.
