Money Making Potential How I Improved It

It’s true, not all blogs have the same money making potential. Niche blogs have a greater potential for making money as long as you choose the right niche. My first niche blog was my sexual aids blog and because of the nature of the blog it can’t host Adsense ads. That being the case it relies solely on selling online products. It’s currently running at a profit but nothing that would make you sit up and take notice. Considering the amount of effort I put into it and the traffic I’m pretty happy with it’s performance.

My second niche blog was my online lottery site. I am able to use Adsense on this site but it doesn’t perform at well, probably because Google displays the wrong ads. This doesn’t bother me because it’s my best performing niche site to date. I know I can improve its performance but I just haven’t allocated the time to do that.

Improving A Blog’s Money Making Potential

As most of you probably realize this is my favourite blog and that’s not because of the money it does bring in. Nope, it’s because it’s not a niche blog which means I can write about anything that I want. Even so it does make money but I rarely try make it more profitable. I usually just write a post or page and then forget about it.

Way back in 2010 I wrote about the people search craze. At the time I was so interested in the opportunities that I created a page to promote it. One of those set and forget pages. Yesterday I revisited that page only to find the links no longer work. Rather than trying to work out why I decided to redo the whole Make Money Online page. It’s currently a work in progress but upon completion it will be my most informative post with heaps of money making potential. Both for me personally and for those who’re smart enough to follow my advice.

I would really appreciate if you would take a look at that page and leave a comment on how you think it’s progressing. Having said that, the thing I want you to take away from this post is to check your old posts or pages to see whether or not they’re performing as they should. Look at them critically and work out ways where you can improve their money making potential.

Hi Sire, I’m a huge fan of niche sites. I just wrote a post on blogging about your passion and for most of us that’s going to be niche blogs. There’s a lot of money to be made with the right niche when matched with the right blogger. Have you seen the latest income reports by Pat Flynn? He made over $6,000 on just three niche sites in the month of April alone.

I also agree it’s important to check and update older posts. It can be a lot of work, especially with blogs as old as yours but it’s important to update the posts that still get decent traffic. Nothing worse than investing a few minute in a post just to figure out it’s outdated, irrelevant and the links don’t work. I’m off to check out you page. :)

    1. That’s pretty good Brian. Does you know what niches Flynn’s into? I’m assuming he’s had them for a while because you would need a fair amount of traffic to obtain those sort of figures.

The only problem I have with niches is finding one that I know enough to write competently that also pays well.

Security guard training, LEED study and exam guide and a Clickable Map site. I tweeted you the link so you can check it out. It’s a very detailed post.

BTW, I liked your updates page but there’s no way to comment there. Did you want comments off?

        1. Thanks Brian, I’ll be checking that out.

As to the comments, it is off for now. I’m not sure that I should turn them on. You think I should?

  2. Hello,

Really you have some points..i do agree with them..most of the sites i seen which are making huge money are related to money making or blogging niche..from other niches and personal blogs its bit hard to make money compare to them…:(

  3. Niche blogs can be great earners but can be disastrous if topic is not selected appropriately….

    1. That’s why it’s necessary to take the time to do your research and choose the right one. Like now, because the USA PowerBall worth over $475 million. When that happens my Lottery sales goes up. The more people I sign under me the greater the potential for making money. I reckon one of the reasons why my Lottery Affiliate page gets so many hits is because others want to get in on the action.

You provide some interesting information here Peter. I guess you are right, niche blogging is better.

  5. Hi Sire,

I’ve had a look at the ‘Make Money Online’ page and I like the way it leads you through the various steps. You’re right that by targeting a niche you’re more likely to make money. Even though niche sites obviously get less searches than big money keyword phrases, it’s better than being sat at page 3 or worse for the more competitive phrases.

The only thing I’d suggest (if you don’t mind me saying) is to maybe re-do the header graphic “What you’re about to read…”, this might be just me but it immediately gives it an ‘affiliate page’ feel.

    All the best,

    1. Hi Lindsey,

I’m glad you like the page and hope you realize that it is a work in progress?

As for suggestions, I’m always ready to listen to advice from my readers. I can see how some may see it as an ‘affiliate page’ especially as I’ve used one of several sales / squeeze pages that comes with this theme. At your suggestion I’ve chosen a different one. Do you like this one any better?

  6. It’s great that you can write whatever you want here. Those are the best kind of blogs because the articles are more natural. I think they probably make the most money too, just because people enjoy reading them.

  7. Is this your top earning website? Either way, I agree, having the freedom to write about whatever you want is great and you remember how fun writing and blogs actually are.

I personally stopped having a general niche blog some time ago and I really feel something is missing in my online life.

    1. At the moment Christian this is the best earning website. That has a lot to do with me updating this site more than any of the others. It therefore gets way more traffic than they do,

Having said that my lotto site is catching up and it’s traffic is minimal compared to this one. I should do more to build the traffic on that site but I find it difficult to come up with constantly interesting article. It’s main feature is that every time I sign someone up they are my customer for life and every time they buy a ticket I get a commission.

The beauty about being a lottery affiliate is that you don’t have to have a lottery site to display their banners. I fist started making money by displaying a banner to the Aussie lottery. That’s what gave me the idea to start up the lottery site.

    Hi Sire,

You’ve made some excellent points. Certainly niche websites give you much clear idea for marketing strategy and targeted audience. I must admit, that I’ve never been much of a successful blogger nor that I am typical blogger. In general I make most of my online income through ecommerce websites that sell actual product or service and concentrate just on this.

    1. Yep, the only problem I’ve found with niche sites is that generally your traffic is smaller but they say its easier to convert.

  9. Took a look at your other site and I really like the layout. It’s clean- no ads down the sides, etc (which I tend to prefer), and I thought your header was pretty effective!

    1. I believe the site you’re referring to is actually a page from this site. One of the wonders of using this theme.

  10. Blogs can be defined in two ways one is having a particular single niche and the other is a multi niche blog. But I have realized that a particular niche blog works well as compared to multi niche.
So, I think that whatever niche you choose, but you should have dedication to make it informative for readers  .
