For those that do not have a wordpress blog, Blogger does give the ability to allow readers to subscribe to comments, but there are a few things you need to know (for both readers & bloggers):

For bloggers:

If you have opted for the quick comment form on your post pages, your visitors will not be given the chance to subscribe to comments.

For readers:

If you want to subscribe and receive emil notification, you will need to use a google account, which removes the ability to take advantage of having a nofollow link to your website from your name.

So readers have to decide which is more important to them: new comment notification by email or an inbound link.

But, no need to make that choice if you use the handy RSS link to the post’s comments in your RSS reader (should be at the bottom of every post’s page). Then you can be notified of new comments on that post, and keep your inbox clean too.

It surprises me that so many bloggers don’t actually utilize this comment. I will still comment on those blogs, but there are no guarantees that I will go back. The plugin resolves that issue.
