FlexSqueeze And The Total Screen Recorder

I’ve been meaning to do a video on how easy it is to use the FlexSqueeze options page but I haven’t been able to do so as I couldn’t find the right software. A while back because of a post I read on Kim’s blog about Jing, I decided to give it a go, but as you can see from the comment I left on her blog it fell far short of my expectations. The main problem being that it seemed to be a bit of a memory hog and slowed everything down so much it was impossible to use.

The other day it dawned on me that I should have a look at my Top Software Online site to see if I had anything there that I can use. Low and behold what did I find but a version of Total Screen Recorder Gold! As you can see from the quality of the following video it worked extremely well, so much so that I reckon it’s another tool that I’ll add to my blogging arsenal.

Edit: FlexSqueeze has just received an update which makes it even easier and more versatile. I’ve written a post about it which you can read here

  1. Yep, especially for someone who isn’t so tech minded like your truly.

  2. That looks like a great tool. There is a difference though – it’s not free whereas Jing is. I don’t know what caused the system slowdown when you tried it – but I might not be the best tester because I have a lot of memory in my computer.

    Thanks for the link.

    1. I don’t know either but I’m glad this one worked. It’s pretty good too, as it has a few features like being able to set your own hot keys; choosing your output mode, either AVI, WMV, SWF or FLV, as well as your playback rates. The Gold version was just under $30 so it wasn’t a great outlay at all, and I don’t mind paying for something as long as it does the job.

As for the link, as always, it was my pleasure.

  3. It seems like an amazing theme engine for someone not so techy. With this, a theme is just a bunch of settings rather than code. Pretty good ;) As always, there is a tradeoff, speed for simplicity but i reckon it’s a fair price…

Btw i am waiting on a more detailed video tutorial so i can have a better looksy ;)

  4. Really It is nice video for better understanding.

    Thanks

    1. Thanks Mohibkh, I was hoping it would put across the point I was trying to make. It’s not just about the software as it’s also about the flexibility of the theme.

  5. I use Record My RecordMyDesktop, which is a Linux app, when I want to make a quick video. It works pretty well most of the time, although it does bug out sometimes and can take awhile to encode the video. When you are actually recording though it isn’t too bad on memory…

    1. No worries Robert. You may want to give this a try, especially as it’s try before you buy software.

  6. I have used screen recorders before and they worked fine I’ve used snag it and debut video capture and the use to work but now they don’t. I have a lot of wrestling matches on my computer, could that be the problem, i doubt that, but to really sum up the question every time i try to record something every screen recorder says something about an avi problem and on some screen recorders when i click record my computer shuts down.

    1. I used snag it as a screen capture and I’ve found it to be a great product. The total screen recorder fills the gap as I was looking for something to capture a video.

  7. It looks like a nice piece of software. I’m always looking for a good screen recorder.

  8. I’ll have to look into this software. I was considering making some tutorial videos which would require some screen capturing.

  9. @ NFL R and CBC, you should give it a try, especially as it doesn’t cost you anything to take it for a test spin.

  10. OK.i see what do you need.
you are one who like speed, exactly as i am.
and i am using Total Screen Recorder.it’s really fast moving, simply to use.most important of all,no leg.

  12. Twitter:
Nicely taught, Sire. I like how it shows up while you’re talking about the theme, but what’s the deal with your internet connection? Guess I’m spoiled with what I get.

And I can tell you’re really happy with your theme; good for you!

By the way, did you remove the version of CommentLuv where we can pick which post we want?

    1. Hiya Mitch. Normally the Internet connection is fine, but for some reason it decided to play up while I did the video. Oh well, shit happens. As for CommentLuv, that went haywire with the latest update. I let Andy know and he’s fixed the problem already. That guy is a bloody marvel.

  13. nice review for a great wordpress theme,.. maybe I would change my theme someday,.. :)

  14. Thanks, I do my best.

  15. As common screen recorder this tool is like a lots of competitors – do the same.

As game video recorder this tool is a piece of sh$t. Default video codecs are not intended for fast & effective video coding (balance between CPU/HDD load and file size).

Fraps and PlayClaw are considerable better.

As sample, look at Game Video recorders test drive

I hope this info will be useful.

    1. That’s fine Ed if I was looking for a game video recorder, but I was not. I had tried other recorders to do what I wanted but they used too much of my computers resources, slowing it right down. The Total Screen Recorder didn’t and it was just what I was looking for. This post was testing a screen recorder to see if it was capable of capturing and produce a video from a working website and I found it did the job well.

Perhaps others will find your link of some use.

  16. Flexsqueeze is an awesome theme ! I always use FS or StudioPress for my clients.
