I know that there are a lot of bloggers out there who want to monetize their blogs and I also know that the majority of them want to do it on the cheap. This means that they do not want to spend any money doing so. This is why they join Adsense, ClickBank, Commission Junction and other such sites and then scratch their heads when nothing much happens. Sure a trickle of money finds its way into their account but nowhere near enough for them to live on.

I know all this because I was one of those bloggers. It then came to me what I was doing wrong. I wasn’t investing any money, apart from hosting fees, into my online business and as most businessmen will tell you, you’re not going to get far without pumping some money into your business in order to make it grow. My first investment was purchasing a professional theme. That worked well but it took awhile before I realised it wasn’t enough and I started investing in WordPress plugins.

As WordPress users we all know what a great platform it is and one of the things that makes it so great is the amount of plugins available for it. I decided that just as going all out and buying a professional theme worked well for me then perhaps going beyond the free plugins and purchasing professional ones would also do the trick.

And so I started on my hunt for professional plugins, plugins that I believed increased my chances to make money online. Some of the plugins I’ve purchased include.

To name a few. For this post I’m going to introduce you to another plugin that I’ve just purchased. This one will help you to publish, customise and monetize the videos on your WordPress blogs. According to the publisher this plugin is normally sold for $67 but JP Schoeffel, more commonly known simply as JP, is running a crazy sale where he is offering a 80% discount and as you know I’m not one to miss out on a sale, especially when I can see the potential in the plugin I am purchasing. Which is why I always publish a post almost immediately after purchasing the plugin so I can offer my readers the same deal, just as I did when I bought Andy’s CommentLuv Premium and I know there are a lot of disappointed bloggers who waited too long thereby missing out on the incredible savings.

I’m sure many of you have read about the value of YouTube videos and how more and more bloggers are using it to provide valuable content to their blogs. Most blogger become bloggers because they believed it was the best way to make money online. Some time back I wrote a post called How To Make Money Off A Popular Post which actually turned out to be a really popular posts as it gave the average blogger a way to make money from any post that provided unique content, content that people would be willing to pay for!

I wrote that post after an exhausting and fruitless search to find a plugin which would do the same thing as MediaPass, the site that allows you to make money from a particular post.. The problem is, as good as MediaPass is it has one major drawback which is they take a greater portion of the potential income a blogger can earn from any given post. I figured something was better than nothing so I was happy to join.

How To Get Your Visitors To Click A Link

We all know that it’s hard enough to get people to visit your blog which is why we all try our best to get as many people as possible find their way to them. This includes such tedious tasks as SEO and the more enjoyable, if not arduous, task of commenting on other blogs and forums. So, we do all the hard yards to get them on our blogs but it all seems such a waste of time if they don’t click on our affiliate links.

This is because as hard as it is to increase a blog’s traffic it’s even harder to get them to click on an ad. We spoke about this in an old blog post called Rotating Banner Problem Resolved By Max Banner Ads where I concluded that we could reduce the effect of ad blindness by showing the reader a different image every time the page was loaded.

Overcoming Ad Blindness

The problem is that even rotating the ads didn’t work for long because people saw them for what they are, an ad! So, the way to overcome ad blindness is to give them something to click on that got their attention but didn’t look like an ad!

Let me ask you something, what is it that almost everyone is into these days? The answer would have to be some sort of social media, whether it’s FaceBook, MSN, or whatever, and being associated with such media they are constantly exposed to their instant messenger notifications. Enter Covert Messenger.

You’ve probably noticed the plugin in action while reading this post. Yep, that’s the one that popped up in the bottom right hand corner of this blog, the one that I’ve configured to look like a FaceBook instant message. That ad has only just gone live and while writing this post it’s already gotten two clicks, as can be seen on the image below.

Heck, since capturing that picture the figures had just doubled, and this post still hasn’t gone live yet! It just goes to show that rather than being turned away people are actually attracted to this form of ad. Of course they are because they don’t realize that it is an ad, even though mine does give it away because I placed that attention image in it.

Can you see the potential in this form of ad? Because people are going to be more prone to clicking on it you want to make sure that it actually takes them to somewhere useful. Don’t send them to some obscure site or squeeze page just to make a couple of bucks, especially if the product is somewhat suspect. So, what can you use it for?

Building Your List: This would be a great way to build that list you’ve always dreamed of.
Promote Your Affiliates: Can you think of a better way to send people to those affiliate products or services that you know and love?
Promoting A Special Post: This would also be a great way to send visitors to a particular post which may actually be promoting something.

I could go on and on but I’m sure you have a great idea of where I’m coming from.

How Good Is Covert Messenger?

Covert Messenger is a great little plugin for two very good reasons. The first is that it’s been formulated around an idea that has been tested and proved and the second is that its so simple to use. I’ve configured it to show a Facebook ‘instant message’ 10 seconds after the page loads. It then disappears after 60 seconds and reappears again after another 10 seconds. If they close the ad I’ve configured it so it won’t appear for another 24 hours. The beauty of it all is that you can change those values to anything you want so it works just the way you want it to.

As usual with any new plugin there appears to be a time limit before they lift the price. I decided to get in early and that wasn’t just because I wanted to save a few bucks. I would have paid much more for it because I can see how this would be a powerful tool to ad to my IM tool.

The Products You Can Promote On Your Blogs

Out of all the emails I get from my readers the one question that comes up the most is a variation of the following; “Sire, everywhere I go I read that if I want to make money on my blog I really need a product of my own to promote. The problem is I don’t have one and so I really need some advice as to what products I actually can promote.”

Naturally, all the emails were different but that quote portrays the general gist of the emails. Its safe to say that this problem is one that many bloggers struggle with and it is in fact one that I struggled with for a few years myself. The obvious reason is that bloggers, like myself, don’t have our own product to promote and probably never will have. That being the case we join sites like Commission Junction, Clickbank and the like to promote their products by placing links in our post or somewhere else on our blogs. They may get the occasional click but rarely generate a sale and the main reason for this is because there’s usually no relation between the product and what we’re writing about. Even when there is there’s nothing to substantiate our reference to the product unless we’ve shown in some way that we’re actually using the product in question.

The Right Product Will Create Sales

Even though I was making quite a bit of money from doing paid posts it wasn’t until I actually started to invest in my blog that they started to produce income on a more regular basis. How does one invest in their blog? That is a very good question and the answer will be revealed as you continue to read this post. Before I get into the crux of this blog post I need to point out that what follows, for blatantly obvious reasons, will not work on those free bogging platforms such as Blogger and WordPress.com.

The plugin that has been the most profitable would have to be Andy’s CommentLuv Premium and a couple of others include Andy’s IM Graphics plugin and WP Zon Builder. Another great plugin I use which brings in a regular income is OIOpubliasher because it makes it so easy to advertise on my blogs.

The images you see in this post were only possible because of Andy’s IM Graphics plugin. One of the many things it can do is to allow you to input blank graphics as a background and then fill it with the text of your choice. As you can probably tell that would have a lot of potential for the internet marketer.

As I write this post there are other plugins I’ve purchased that I’m hoping will help me along the blogging for money road. I plan to write a post on them once I’ve completed the testing phase.

Making A Sale Is All About The Right Review

As bloggers there are many of us who would love to make a living from it but unfortunately most of us aren’t doing too well at it. I would say that the first thing a blogger does to monetize their blog would be sticking Adsense ads on it somewhere in the vain hope that someone will click on it. There’s nothing wrong with Adsense ads as they can generate some income but unless you have a huge amount of traffic all you’re going to get is a bit of pocket money.

The other way to blog for money would be through promoting affiliates or by selling your products online. The problem is most of us don’t have products to sell and so we have to rely on selling other peoples products either as an affiliate or by joining sites such as Amazon.

The Importance Of Honest Reviews

Where most people go wrong is the placement of links or banners on their blogs in places such as the sidebars, footer header or within the post itself. They’re hoping that if they supply good content they’ll generate enough traffic and hopefully someone will be interested enough in their ad placements to click on a link. Unfortunately this isn’t exactly what you would call targeted traffic and while some may actually click on a link or banner they rarely result in a sale and unfortunately no sale means no cash in your pocket.

The trick to making a sale is giving your customers what they want. That means while sticking something unrelated at the end of the post may make you feel good, in that you’ve done something to create income, but it’s pretty well useless. You may get lucky if its related in some way to your post but not by much.

What you should be doing is writing a review about a product that you actually use and love elaborating on the positive aspects as well as any negatives you may have come across. Having said that the problem with reviews is that they don’t always work and the reasons for that are;

A lack of trust: People don’t know who you are and therefore don’t trust you enough to take your word for it. This is the number one reason why new bloggers find it so hard to earn any sort of income when they first start off. Those that give up say that blogging for money isn’t possible while those who persevere and who over time have built a presence slowly start to see that blogging for money can actually be a reality.
Not Having enough products to sell: So, let’s say you’ve stuck it out and people now trust you enough to take you at your word when recommending a product or service. The problem you now have, unless you have a lot of money behind you, is the inability to physically purchase all the products you wish to review.

The Best Review Is A Customers Review

There’s also the problem that even though you have over time built a presence and a modicum of trust with your readers people will continue to hesitate when it comes to completing a sale because of the perception that your review is skewed in that you have an ulterior motive for writing it. You can’t really blame them either because there are so many reviews out there from people who have never tried the product and have written a whole lot of crap just to make the sale.

This isn’t true of reviews written by actual customers who have nothing at all to gain from writing it. When you think about it, time being what it is, there’s only two reasons why someone will take the time to write a review. They either really love a product or they really hate it. Reading the reviews on any given product gives you a feel for how good that product really is. This is one of the reasons why I purchased WP Zon Builder and wrote the post Why I Love WP Zon Builder.

Yesterday I was looking at my Sexual Aids blog and I noticed that one particular post was getting a lot of attention, as were the links on that post. The problem was it wasn’t generating much in the way of sales and it was after much thought that I come to the conclusion which resulted in this post. Naturally I decided to do something about it which was to point all the links to Amazon rather than to the site I had been using as an affiliate.

Naturally to facilitate this I used WP Zon Builder which made the transition a breeze. As you can see from the post The Ten Most Popular Vibrators, each of the vibrators in question now has a link to Amazon, an image of the product as well as a link to the customer reviews. I’ve also stipulated in the post that people should take the time to read the reviews to see whether or not it’s the one best suited to them. Whether they click on the review or the product link doesn’t matter as either way my affiliate link is embedded into both links.

The question now is am I right in making all the above assumptions? What say you, is there value in what I have portrayed above or do you see fault in it somewhere. Either way I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.

Increasing The Potential To Make Money With The Real Estate Above The Fold

Yeah, I know, that heading is a little on the long side but I just felt it was necessary because it explains exactly what this post is all about. The thing to remember about your blog is that, where advertising is concerned, there are areas on your blog that can be considered advertising real estate. These areas include the header, footer, sidebars and within the post itself. Of all the areas the ones considered most valuable are the ones above the fold. The first time I saw the term ‘above the fold‘ I didn’t have a clue what they were talking about. I now know that when people talk about something being above the fold they are referring to the section of your blog, or web page, that is visible on your screen before you start scrolling down. Everything else is below the fold.

If you look at my Well Blog Me Blog you will notice that it utilizes FlexSqueeze’s Top Feature which allows you to advertise your favourite affiliates in the prime position. The only drawback is that it can take a lot of room, depending how many affiliates you’re promoting and how big, if any, your banners are.

Making The Best Use Of Your Header

I used to use the top feature on this blog but removed it awhile back when doing some spring cleaning. I decided to introduce it again after becoming a FlexSqueeze Premium Member which gave me access to a whole heap of stuff including The Feature Slider Plugin which you can see in action above. I’ve set it so that it gives visitors enough time to read each slide before it moves onto the next one. Visitors also have the choice to manually slide them to and fro.

Adding the slides is as easy as adding a text widget to the top feature area. One text widget for each slide. In my slide show I’ve incorporated images, also thanks to being a Premium Member, as well as a description with links where I’ve deemed them necessary. These links either link to one of my affiliates or to one of my posts thereby adding to the internal linking which as most of you know adds to your SEO.

At the moment I’ve only got three slides but I will be increasing them as time goes by, each slide that I add will be promoting those affiliates or products that I feel are essential to those aspiring bloggers who want to increase their online income.

Will the slider work? I don’t really know. Only time will tell but I know that having it right there above the fold will only improve it’s chances. Do you think the slider will increase my potential for making money online?

A Review Of The BackupBuddy Plugin

There are a lot of bloggers out there who have written a post about their ten most essential WordPress plugins, or something along those lines, and I can assure you that almost every one of them would have included in that list a backup plugin. I’m also pretty sure that the plugin most of them would recommend is Austin Matzko’s WordPress Database Backup. Heck, that was always my plugin of choice until something went wrong with one of my blogs and I had to restore my last backup

Yep, the biggest flaw in that plugin is there is no restore function. I always thought that because I had that plugin everything was sweet until I needed to restore that blog. Sure the plugin saved my butt as it at least gave me a database to restore but it took me a lot of Googling and a bit of stressful manipulation of phpMyAdmin before I got it to work. The whole time I was afraid I would do something wrong that would end up destroying it instead of fixing it.

Enter The BackUp Buddy WordPress Plugin

While I have no doubt that I would be able to do it all again if necessary I would rather not put up with all that aggravation which is why I purchased BackupBuddy the complete WP backup, restore and migration plugin.

The beauty about this plugin is that you can do a backup of your entire blog which includes your widgets, themes, plugins, and SQL database. This is great if you intend moving your blog to another host as all you have to do is to FTP the importbuddy.php script along with the backup zip file to your new host, run the script and it does the rest. This would be an essential tool if you’re designing blogs for your clients as you can do it all on your computer and then restore it to your client’s site.

Apart from having a cool schedule feature where you can schedule your backup monthly, bimonthly, weekly, daily or hourly it also reminds you to do a backup every time you publish or modify a post. Not only that it also allows you to choose where you want to send the backup including Amazon S3, Rackspace Cloud, an FTP/FTPS account, or to your email. It’s so versatile you can actually set it up to send the backups to all of them

As you can see from the above image I have several backups of just the database and one of the entire blog. If I was wanting to move this blog I would use the full backup which would restore the whole thing including themes, plugins and all modifications. I don’t even need to install WordPress as that’s part of the restoration process.

So the question you have to ask yourself is are you happy with a simple backup plugin or would you rather one that allows you to restore your blog as well?

I would have given it 5 stars except for the fact that I thought you would be able to restore the blog from within the BackupBuddy dashboard. I understand not being able to do a full site restoration that way but I would have thought it would restore the database. Even so the restoration process is straightforward and so 4 stars it is.

Why You’re Not Getting Sales On Your Blog

I’ve often wondered about this and I’ve even tried to compare blogs to real word businesses in order to find an answer. Let’s consider a couple of real world businesses to see where some differences may lie. The first one that comes to mind, probably because I’ve been associated with this type of business for most of my life, is the supermarket or corner deli. As long as their premises are neat, tidy and welcoming and their staffs attitude is professional and friendly they’re likely to convert almost every person that comes into their store into sales. The main reason for this is people who come into this type of store are looking for something that they need then and there.

Now lets look at a store that sells TV’s, Hi-Fi systems and the like. They may find it a little harder to convert because not everyone that walks into their store is ready to buy a product then and there. Many are window shopping or even looking for the right product at the right price. However, it is possible to convert these casual shoppers as long as you have the properly trained staff. Staff that are able to approach the prospects without scaring them off. Who are able to get out of the prospects what it is they are looking for and then convince them that they are not only able to offer the best deal but the best after sales service as well. Done correctly, even if the prospect leaves the store many will come back, especially if they do not receive the same service elsewhere, to complete the sale. I know this to be a fact because it’s happened many times while I was working in such a store.

Knowing Who Your Customers Are

In the above examples, as in other such businesses in the real world, they have the advantage in that people walking into their stores know what they’re selling and more importantly are probably wanting to buy something from them, if not now at a later date. This is generally not the case for our blog visitors, especially if the blogger has been using the wrong keywords to attract prospective customers.

Are You Using The Wrong Keywords?

This is something every good blogger must ask themselves. How often have you left in disgust because you landed on a site that had absolutely nothing to do with what you were searching for. While some may blame Google for it the problem usually lies with

the site owner for using the wrong keywords. Their mistake was all they were interested in was traffic rather than getting a lower amount of targeted traffic which has more chance of converting. While traffic may be good for lowering your Alexa ranking its pretty useless unless the people who land on your site are actually looking for the products you have on offer. Traffic that isn’t targeted can be likened to customers who rush into a store just to get out of the rain. They may look around while there but they’re not likely to buy anything and once the rain stops they will continue their journey to the store which has what they’re looking for and are therefore more likely to make a sale.

I have to admit that before Market Samurai I never used to worry about keywords because it was all to hard and I know now what a great mistake that was. It’s better to do some keyword research than to not worry about it at all because otherwise you’re not getting the right traffic reducing any chance at converting traffic into sales.

Knowing Your Audience

An important question to ask yourself is who exactly is reading your blog. This is

Preaching to the wrong audience is like talking to the wind. It’s a waste of breath!

because if you know who your readers are then you have more of a chance at selecting the right products to sell to them. The real reason many bloggers are failing when it comes to marketing is because they’re pushing the wrong products to the wrong people.

Say for example you know that your audience consist mainly of teenagers then you would want to provide products that would interest them. This could be anything from ways of treating acne to the latest iPhone. Find the right products and then you’re finally on a winner.

Take this blog for example, it’s not a niche blog and yet it still provides me an income. Most of my readers are bloggers and therefore most of my money comes from selling blogging related products. My biggest seller to date has been the FlexSqueeze theme and other products include the plugins like CommentLuv Premium and even Andy’s latest IM Graphics plugin. The reason for my success with these two plugins is getting in early and being able to offer them at a discounted price. I’m sure that those who purchased the plugins from me in the early days also offered it to their readers thereby recouping their costs and perhaps even making a profit.

So, if you can find out who your audience is you will have a better idea at what products you can market to them Having a niche blog makes the job a lot easier but niche blogs can be boring resulting in poor posts and therefore poor conversions.

The question for many of us is how do you work out who your audience is? The obvious answer is by interacting with your commentators. I’m afraid that alone may not be enough and so I ask you, my loyal and knowledgable readers, how to we learn what category or people are reading our blogs so we can successfully market to them?

Andy’s IM Graphics Plugin Review

I have gotten a lot of emails from people who say that although they love the FlexSqueeze theme the fact that they’ve just purchased a professional theme of their own prevents them from outlaying anymore money on another one. Even so they wish their theme had the ability to incorporate professionally designed images right into their posts or sales / landing pages and, pretty please, is there a plugin or something that would allow them to have at least that portion of flexibility that FlexSqueeze has. Unfortunately I’ve had to disappoint them all by answering in the negative, until now.

Rather than emailing them all with the good news, an impossible feat as I’ve deleted most of their emails, I though the next best thing is to write a post about a plugin I’ve just purchased that will allow them to do just that. Why buy it when FlexSqueeze already has the feature built in? Well two reasons really, the first being I had to get my hands on it to give it a proper review and the second is that I got it at a really good price and you can too if you act quickly!

Is The IM Graphics Plugin For You?

Before I tell you about the IM Graphics plugin I want you to know that the person behind this plugin in none other than Andy Bailey the man behind the CommentLuv plugin and so you can be assured of it’s quality and know that Andy is always there to help when and if it is needed.

In case you’re not aware the IM part stands for Internet Marketers and this plugins is best suited for those of you who are planning to sell stuff on the net. Where most people go wrong when designing their landing pages or writing posts with the intent to sell is that the end result looks so unprofessional and that alone may be the reason why their conversion rates are so low. The problem is that they don’t have the resources to pay for the images required nor the graphical expertise to design their own and that’s where Andy’s IM Graphics Plugin comes in.

I just entered that image with two clicks of the mouse and it’s these sorts of images that will attract peoples attention and help them to focus on what you’re saying. Now I

know there will be some of you who will say that they could do the same thing using the WordPress media library but comparing that to the IM Graphics plugin is like comparing a beat up Volvo to the Brabus Mercedes 800E. Spending money wisely in order to make yourself more productive is what good business is all about because you can use the time saved being more productive hopefully resulting in more money in your pocket.

I’m not kidding, you have less than a week to get this plugin at the ridiculously low price of $27. That’s a whole lot better than having to pay $97 which is what the plugin will cost you if you miss out on this great deal. I know how many people are kicking themselves today because they missed out on getting the premium CommentLuv plugin and the special price and ended up paying full tote odds for it!

The Price Includes Professional Images

That’s right, not only do you get the plugin for 27 bucks, Andy has also thrown in a whole pile of quality images to get you going. Watch my video just to get an inkling of some of the images included or follow the link to the IM Graphics plugin page to get an even better idea. The best thing is that you also get the PSD images which will allow you to edit them with complete ease with PhotoShop.

Having said that, I wanted access to even more images and so I paid $49 to get my hands on the Ultimate Squeeze Page Vector Pack which gives me over 250 images

which are also completely editable. Have you ever noticed when you try to enlarge and image or manipulate it in some way how the quality deteriorates dramatically? Well it won’t happen with vector graphics! Like the page says “The Vector Graphics Pack not only contains the layered vector files for each image, but it also contains a fully commented HTML file with all the HTML and CSS needed to quickly create your own professional squeeze pages. Simply copy and paste the code into your sales page and add your content!” This means that even if you’re not a FlexSqueeze owner, if you have access to a HTML editor then there is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to creat your own sales page.

Anyway, I’ve uploaded those files to the plugins image directory so I can show you how it easily manages all your file directories of images.

If there is anything lacking it would be this. Andy, if you’re reading this it would be great if you could incorporate the facility to add a link to an image so that it would link to the product or whatever is being offered. Until then if anyone needs help with doing it manually I’ve included it in my video.

As far as ratings go I give the IM Graphics plugin a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. If Andy was to include that nifty little feature then I would gladly change it to a 5 star rating.As to the graphics pack, that’s a great deal having it included with the plugin but I wanted something more and so I bought the Ultimate Squeeze Page Vector Pack and it’s great that the plugin allowed me to incorporate those images into it.

This Has To Be The Best WordPress Comment System

I know there are a lot of people out there who are looking for that special WordPress comment system, one that will make their blog stand out from the rest. I know this because the post I wrote, What Is The Best Comment System For WordPress Blogs, generated a lot of interest, both in comments and in the amount of traffic it gets from the search engines. In that post and in others I’ve always maintained that the default system is the best and I’ve always bagged other comment systems like Disqus, Livefyre and Intense Debate, until now!

The biggest negative those other comment systems have is the extra hoops they put their commentators through just to leave a comment. This one bad point so outweighs any positive features that it’s pointless installing them. I know bloggers who use them will swear by them but if they’re that good why do most of them revert to the default system?

And The Best WordPress Comment System Is?

If you’re going to install any plugin you want to ensure there are benefits to either you or your commentators. If it’s beneficial to both of you then you’re on a real winner. This is especially true when it comes to your comment system as it plays such an integral part to a your blog. Considering its importance I thought I would never install a new comment system as I didn’t think you could improve perfection. How wrong I was!

From all the emails I’ve been getting I know that many of you have noticed something different about the comment system I’m no using. Well, you can stop tearing your hair out because this post will finally reveal all. You’re going to want to read it because without the knowledge contained within you’ll find it extremely difficult to find the right one.

I’ll give you a tip though, it was developed by MailChimp! Yep, the one I use as my autoresponder. I believe this to be important because as a well renowned company they’re not going to put their name on an inferior product. You’ll see their logo on the setup page so it also acts as a great advertisement. I’ve put a bit of a video together for you so I can show you how good this comment system really is.

As you can see I haven’t gone all out in the video as I like to keep my videos short and simple. The video shows you how the comment system works and also how to get the plugin via your WordPress dashboard. If it wasn’t for this post who knows how long before I would, if at all, come across this rather unique comment system. Yep, I continue to call it that even though the guys who put it together refer to it as a Social plugin.

Kimberly has run a few tests and has found it to be compatible with Commentluv, Commentluv Premium, ReplyMe, KeywordLuv/KeywordName and Subscribe To Comments. Unfortunately it doesn’t work with my Smiley plugin which is cool as I’ve found another to take it’s place.

You should also note that your comments will no longer be displayed in the way you were used to as Social uses it’s own method of displaying comments, one that I am pretty happy with. Another positive aspect of this plugin is that you can set it to automatically Tweet your post as well as posting an excerpt to your FaceBook once you have published your post. That’s great for people like me who constantly forget to ~~market~~ promote their posts.
