ProBlogger Plea To Amazon Associates Program

I was pleased to read Darren Rowse’s letter to the big boys at Amazon, not because I think he will get non-US affiliates a better deal, but because it has galvanized me into promoting Amazon products a whole lot more. I never thought that there was that amount of money to be made. Sure Darren is able to bring in the big bucks because of the amount of ‘pull’ his blogs have, and maybe one day I will be close to being in the same league but for now I will take every dollar that comes my way, even if I have to wait 6 weeks to get it.

In regards to the post itself, I reckon that Darren is starting to forget his original roots. Like us, he started off as a small time blogger who was quite happy to get whatever income came his way through his blogging efforts. With consistent hard work he has been able to fulfill the dreams of most of the bloggers out there, that of being able to make blogging their career where they can work from home and be their own boss. So you have to wait 6 weeks for your check, so what, at least you are getting a check. If Amazon decided not accept foreign affiliates, like a lot of other US companies, you would be $70,000 worse off so perhaps it would be best to accept things as they are.

Personally I would be quite happy to wait 6 months for that kind of money let alone 6 weeks. Whilst I hope that they take heed of your letter I can only imagine their response upon receiving it.

Amazon CEO: Hey Bill, check this out, now that Darren Rowse is a member of the million dollar club he reckons we should treat him better than the rest of our affiliates.

Bill: Your kidding? The cheek of these damn Aussies. And check out the bit where he says we should be paying him more ‘personal attention’ because of the size of his account!

Amazon CEO: (Laughing out loud) Yeah that’s really rich isn’t it? Damn Aussies are lucky we let them in on the program at all. Don’t think they realize the hassles of dealing with foreign affiliates let alone the extra costs of changing the system, especially now with the current economic crisis. The nerve of some people.

Bill: Say Boss, are you going to reply to the letter?

Amazon CEO: Are you kidding? That’s Darren Rowse we are talking about, of course I am going to reply……..in about 6 weeks or so.

Hey Darren, I would have left you an actual comment on the post but it’s been getting so that I never know if you get my comment or not and I’m feeling like I talking in the wind. Still, it was a good excuse to do a post and so I took that option instead. All the best of luck with your letter mate, I honestly hope that the big boys sit up and take notice, but I don’t like your chances.

Everything You Wanted To Know About Online Surveys

The one thing that you will find on the Net is that a whole lot of people are looking for ways of making money, and there are just as many who would love to help them in their pursuit of fortune. The problem is that most of those wanting to help turn out to be unscrupulous characters whose only interest is to fleece them of their cash.

Take for example those sites that promise that you can make a comfortable living working from home by completing surveys. Imagine making a living working from home? That would appeal to almost anybody. How many of us have seen Paid Survey sites offering the following as an incentive to join, these may vary from site to site but in general they are very similar.

Need money? Want to work from home? Then sit back, and get paid for what you think.
Get paid to take online surveys – $5 to $75 per survey!
Get paid to participate in online focus groups up to $150 per hour!
Get paid to try new products – keep the products and get paid too!
Get paid to preview movie trailers $4 to $25 per hour!

You will then generally get a sales pitch telling you how many companies they have on their books etc. and will usually end with something similar to the following:

Look at how much you can earn taking surveys online all from the comfort of home!
If you took 2 surveys a day @ $10 per survey = $140 per week or $560 per month or $6,720 per year!
If you took 4 surveys a day @ $10 per survey = $280 per week or $1120 per month or $13,440 per year!
If you took 4 surveys a day @ $20 per survey = $560 per week or $2240 per month or $26,880 per year!

So you can make all this, and all they will ask is for a small fee of between $30 & $60.

Lets quote an old cliché, If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

What really lets these sites down is the final pitch they make to suck people in. Lets examine the point where you can make $6720 per year. It is very unlikely you will get anywhere near this amount as you would be extremely lucky to get even 1 survey a day let alone 2. Few surveys pay $10, most will pay between $1 to $3. Also usually before getting to complete a whole survey you will get asked a few screening questions, depending on your answers you may not be accepted for the survey. Now its hard enough getting 1 survey a day at $10 a survey, what do you think your chances are at getting 4 surveys at $20 a survey.

The other thing you have to be wary of is the pitch where they tell you they have hundreds of companies online who are screaming for people to join and start taking surveys. In reality what you will get is a list that has many duplicate or out dated links. The sole intention of these companies is to put their hand in your pockets to extract money from you not to put it in.

I am not saying that all these sites are crooked, there may well be some honest ones just make sure you do your home work before joining.

All being said you can make extra cash doing surveys just not the unreasonable amounts being offered. Of course the more companies you join the more surveys you will be offered. Remember to fill out all your profiles as completely as possible. The more complete your profile the more surveys will be offered to you. The thing is that you don’t have to pay money to get a list of survey sites, many just like The Elusive Pot Of Gold, offer it for free.

Join enough companies and who knows how much you can truly earn!

The Real Dos And Don’t Of Affiliate Marketing

If you want to find out all about affiliate marketing there is no better place than the net. The only problem is how to sift through all the garbage in order to find the hidden gem that will lead you to your millions. I can tell you one thing, it’s not an easy task and if you come across any site that tells you it is and promises to show you how to make it big time in affiliate marketing, give it a wide berth because it’s total BS.

That is your first lesson, nothing in life is easy when it comes to making money and that includes affiliate marketing so DON’T get sucked in.

You will get as much out of Affiliate marketing as you put into it so the more effort on your part the better the results.

Do not make the mistake of signing up for every single affiliate you come across as this will only diminish the amount of effort that you can focus on each individually.

Pick ones that you are passionate about as you will find those easier to promote.

Check the landing pages of your affiliate links because if they don’t ‘grab’ your attention how do you expect them to encourage those you send there to actually make a purchase or to sign up to whatever they are offering. After all, you can do all the hard work to get people to your site and click on a link but if the landing page absolutely sucks you have just wasted all that effort. So, before you begin promoting any affiliate check to see exactly where you are sending your prospective customers.

Don’t always join the biggest affiliates thinking they will lead to greater profits. Sometimes the smaller affiliates provide better customer service with a higher level of affiliate paraphernalia.

Don’t bullshit your prospective customers. Be honest with them and you will have a greater chance of converting their visit to a prospective click.

Truth be told, I can by no means be called an affiliate marketer. I am a simple Aussie blogger who’s main aim is to blog for fame and fortune. However, I have in my travels stumbled upon a blog that does seem to have a handle on affiliate marketing and this particular post, JR’s Internet Marketing Strategies, is a good place for those who want to get started in this facet of internet marketing.
