Blogging like everything in life can be improved, but only if you don’t give up and strive to get better. Most bloggers who have given up saying that blogging for money is a myth and can’t be done failed because they more than likely did not persist long enough with their blog and they probably made several mistakes along the way.
I know when I first started blogging I didn’t know what the hell I was doing. I have to admit I am bloody embarrassed when I look over those initial posts all those years ago. But then, I didn’t know what I was doing and who I was actually writing for. In those days all I wanted to do was to pump the material out because I though that was what Google wanted. There wasn’t much thought given to what the readers wanted and that was a very important factor.
Blogging For Money The Professional Way
In those days it was all about doing it on the cheap, not because I couldn’t afford to outlay the money, it’s just that I didn’t think it was necessary. That was a bad call, and I should have known better but I was still learning and I was making a lot of mistakes along the way.
Toyota Hilux Precision Driving Team
Take the guys in the following video. They’re professional drivers and, as you can see, they’re very good at what they do. Still, you don’t think they were just able to get into these cars and perform the way they do without a lot of practice, not to mention a lot of mistakes, do you? I bet there was a lot of panel beating that had to be done before they got to the stage that they’re at today. Anyway, I may not be able to drive the way they do but I bet I’m more successful when it comes to blogging for money.
The same applies for bloggers. You can be expected to start up a blog and to instantly get traffic. That takes time and effort and even once the traffic comes in you can’t expect that traffic to generate an instant income. I know, you put so much effort into your blogs and not having it produce an income can be very heart breaking. But they’re doing a disservice to all the bloggers who are successful when it coms to blogging for money and to those who are just starting out.
Mistakes That Hamper Your Blogging For Money Efforts
Not investing in your new found business. Let’s face it, if you’re serious about blogging for
money you have to be prepared to spend more than just your time to achieve your goals. This investment includes the following.
- Self Hosting Your Blog: Sure there may be the odd few who make money on the free blogging platforms but these are the exception and not the rule. By hosting your own blog you become your own boss and can do what you want without fear of someone cancelling your blog because they didn’t approve of something your wrote. It also shows those who come to your blog that your serious about what you do.
- Professional Theme: It took me for ages to invest money in a professional theme and it wasn’t until the second try that I decided on the FlexSqueeze theme. I was so impressed that I use it on all my blogs bar one, which uses the other professional theme, Thesis, that I didn’t like.
- Buying The Right Tools: Tools are essential in almost any successful business and this is also true for blogs. Probably the first tool I bought was Market Samurai but since then I’ve bought several in the way of plugins and I am continuing to do so. Tools make a bloggers job easier and also help to increase his income. Some of the free tools are OK but you can’t make money promoting them whereas you can with the paid ones.
I know that there are some out there who pay others to comment on blogs on their behalf as part of their investment strategy but it’s my personal belief that this is a bad investment. It is far better to do your own commenting as this is the only safe way to build your brand.
Awhile back I did a post on how Having Individual Page Headers Are Great and today I’ve used it for the first time on my Lotto blog. You can see it on my William Hill page and I’m really pretty proud with the way it turned out. I used the original banner and then adapted it using Adobe Photoshop Elements to suit the page’s subject matter so it kept with the original blog theme.
OK, so what I am trying to say is don’t give up if things aren’t going your way where blogging for money is concerned. Step back and analyse the situation. If you’re already following my the tips outlined in this post then maybe you need to look at other factors.
- Have you picked the right niche? Are you passionate about it and is it showing in the way you write your posts?
- Are you engaging your readers are you ignoring them. Engaging them in the content section is always worth the effort.
- Are you promoting yourself on other blogs by leaving well thought out and informative comments.
- Are you using the social networks properly. Something that I need to concentrate on. For some reason I find this pretty difficult. Must be something to do with my personality or something.
The thing is don’t give up. Have a little break perhaps. Search the net for inspiration and look at what you can do differently. With time and dedication you will succeed at blogging for money. It may not make you a fortune but as long as it adds to your present income I think you can call it a success story.
If you have any other tips for blogging for money just leave a comment. We would all love to hear from you.

Those are all great tips for those wanting to make money online.
Finding a great web host is important also. I’ve been using since web hosting service since the late 1990s. My first hosting provider was fine, but in 2003, when I chose a hosting provider to host my first blog I ran into a lot of problems. At times, my site seemed to be offline more than it was online. The customer service was pathetic. Two weeks later I switched hosting providers and the difference was like night and day. I learned my lesson and did my research (just like I do with everything else) before I switch
I’ve used paid themes with my professional sites, but haven’t chosen one with my personal site… yet. However I’m looking at that option. I do like the appearance of FlexSqueeze. Can you create your own headers?
So many things are important if you’re interested in making money online. If you think you can make money without an effort, then you really shouldn’t be surprised when you don’t make anything.

Hey Opal, you’ll find that most I’ve created most of my headers and the beauty about FlexSqueeze is it allows me to display them perfectly. If my header is higher than normal FlexSqueeze allows me to adjust it accommodate. The only thing I have to ensure is that I make sure the width matches the settings I’ve allowed for in the theme settings. Did you check out the main header and the header in the William Hills page?

I just checked it out, it looks great. Since commenting on your site yesterday, I’ve watched several FlexSqueeze videos so the questions I’ve had were answered.
From what I’ve seen FlexSqueeze seems easy to use, I like that. About five years ago, I remember playing around with a few website themes to get them just right. I really don’t want to go through that again. The first theme I purchased was the Thesis theme. It was definitely better than the free themes, but I felt lost when it came to getting the most out of that theme.
In a few weeks, I’ll be setting up a site for my nine year old daughter. She loves making stop motion videos. Also, I’m planning on giving my personal site an overhaul. When I do that I’ll be sure to pop by here purchase Flex Squeeze through your affiliate link. When I think about it, $127 isn’t a lot for all the features it offers.

Funny you should say that Opal because Thesis is the first professional theme I bought. I can’t tell you how upset I was when I found out it wasn’t as easy to use as FlexSqueeze and I had to learn HOOKS to make it do something.
I’ve done a few FlexSqueeze videos to show people how easy it is to use. Maybe you say one of mine?
If there is ever anything you want to know about it just ask.

Hello Sire,
I have a blog that I started about four months ago, and I really need to be more active with it. I didn’t set up my blog for income. I did it to help establish myself as a knowledgeable professional in my industry which is Real Estate. I guess there is always room for me to place small income advertisements on my blog though.
I also agree that it is very important to do your own commenting rather than to pay someone else to do it for you. It is by far the safest way to go when it comes to Google.
Also, those Toyota trucks were over the top amazing. Very impressive.
Thank you Sire :)

I think for me making money from my blog will hopefully be about getting more clients for my architectural design business. So many architect websites are all photos and no real content so I am hoping by putting more useful information out there it will drive more business my way.

That’s a very good reason for starting a blog Colin as regular updates makes Google happy and is bound to improve your sites standing in the search engines. Just make sure the content shows people how much you know about your business.

I agree with your point of a professional theme and without this a blog is not completed and specially when you want to make your blog a professional one. Nice points jotted down ere.

Yep, and what you also need is a professional theme that is so flexible that you can give your blog that personal touch so that it stands apart from all the others.

Hi Sire. Those concise tips were great. In making money online, it is important that your niche is your passion and you have your tools for it. No business is easy in the beginning. Preparedness, broad information, patience, practice, and networking are always necessary. And you’re right, don’t give up.

Thanks Scott. Even with Adsense choosing the right niche can make a huge difference in your earnings. This is partly because of the ads shown on that niche and partly because of the traffic it can attract. Take this site for example, a click usually does not amount to much whereas those on a different niche can amount to quite a bit.
All it takes is to find a niche, that you’re comfortable writing about, that your research shows performs well with Google Adsense

Nice reminder of how blogging starts and some of the tips for how to proceed. Of course, I’m still fighting all the purchases to make money, mainly because if I’m not making “living on” money then it’s not enough for me. But I’m greedy! lol

I’m not making a living on it either Mitch but I’m still prepared to invest in it. Some of that investment goes to making the job easier, the rest towards buying products that will hopefully increase my earning potential.
My latest acquisition will hopefully fill both those requirements.

great tips indeed. Blogging for money is certainly not easy as some people put it. I must also admit that it isn’t undo-able. Finding a great niche with less competition is something that can make it easy for you to make money from the content you create for readers.

Well brother personally I think that blogging only for money is a waste. We should try and provide value to our readers! :)
BTW it’s just my opinion!

When is blogging for money ever been a waste? And naturally you have to provide value, that goes without saying. Otherwise you would never make any money on your blog.

Producing unique and quality articles can take a good bit of time, but analyzing on the feedback of those articles takes hardly 5 to 10 minutes. It is also important to keep track of the feedback that you are getting and more importantly take the possible criticism, if there is any, in the right spirit and work on it to correct your mistakes. Keeping a check on your investment is also very essential for successful blogging.

I know there are some out there who can’t take criticism and use it in a positive manner and that unfortunately is a flaw in their character. I hope that I don’t fall in that group.

Repeating the mistakes that occur previously is the worst thing a blogger can do. No matter which blogging money model you choose, or even if you choose a combination of ways to make money from your blog, there’s still one secret to success; you need to be able to write well and engage your readers. That’s how you build and audience, and of course, the bigger your audience, the bigger your chances to make some serious money blogging. Great tips and mistakes you have highlighted here with your enlightening post!

Well Adam, learning from your mistakes is always a good idea, no matter what you do.

Hello!
The biggest secret to being a “profitable” blogger is blogging about your passion. Blogs that are built with a reason of making money usually don’t make it far and do not make money.
You need to update your blog often. Once a day is the BEST but if you cannot do so, try to update it at least 2-3 times a week – this way your readers will see that you update often, they will come back and read your blog again, maybe click on some ads, buy something from your blog…
Twitter: AussieSire
It’s true, blogging about your passion will help, but it really all depends about what your passion is.
