Best Defence Against Swine Flu Is Flu Defence?

Although I’ve posted a version of this post on my Load Of BS blog I’m doing another one on this blog to make sure that I get maximum exposure. The reason behind these posts is to find out whether or not any of my readers have ever  tried Flu Defence, one of the many products offered by one of my affiliates.  Before I go on I would like you to read part of a description from their website.

Flu defence is the first 100% natural general-purpose flu remedy that attacks the virus and boosts the immune system, with no known side effects. Now you can easily Prevent flu and support your bodies natural defences during acute symptoms. The fine of herbal extracts in Flu Defence, will not only boost your immune system, but will also neutralize various viruses. Studies show the ingredients in Flu Defense act a powerful immune booster, that exhibits strong antiviral action against influenza A & B, birdflu, herpes, swine flu and even HIV.

I found particularly interesting their claim that it “exhibits strong antiviral action against influenza A 7 B, swine flu and even HIV”. Note, it doesn’t say it will cure HIV, only that it acts as a defense against the virus!

I’ve never really liked taking prescription drugs and ever since my healthy vegetarian days I have preferred taking herbal remedies, therefore the fact that it is a herbal product really appeals to me. The main ingredients include Elderberry extract, Echinacea extract, Vitamin C and Zinc Oxide. I know how the herbal market has a huge following because many swear by it medicinal attributes and I’m pretty sure I’ve even heard of pharmaceutical companies using herbal extracts in their medication.

These guys must be pretty sure of their product because they offer the following guarantee.

Yes we do. We are so confident with the effectiveness of Flu defence we offer you 60 days to try this product, and in the unlikely event you get the Flu or feel this product isn’t working for you, you may return it for a full refund.

They’ve also got a lot of testimonials, but I would much prefer hearing from any of my readers who have tried the product, so if you’ve tried it I would love for you to leave a comment as to what you thought of it.

  1. Looks to me like absolute bollocks. At best, some of the ingredients will provide some health benefits (Vitamin C and Zinc Oxide) and for the rest, the Placebo Effect will help. But this sort of thing is bad because now people will take it and go into work or school believing that they are cured or immune and will infect others.

The Bad Science website covers this kind of nonsense a lot.

    1. What killed it for me is when they said it would help against HIV. I reckon that was a bit of overkill and maybe they should reconsider their marketing strategy. It would have been a whole lot better if they focused on the Flu Defense angle, after all that’s how they named the product.

I did a quick search on Elderberry extract and apparently there is evidence that that it does fight flu symptoms. Here is one article on the effectiveness of Elderberry on flu symptoms.

There is also this article from Choice about the effectiveness of Echinacea, while not conclusive makes for interesting reading.

      1. I agree that was going a little too far. I know there are a number of chemicals that can kill HIV infected fluids, like blood, but I am pretty certain there isn’t too much to their claims.

        1. Again Robert, I think their claim is more along the prevention than a cure. I suppose if you work along the assumption that a healthy person is less likely to contract a given disease then there could actually be some truth to their claim, but I would really love to hear from anyone who has actually tried the product.

  2. I feel like I might have to start calling you Dr. Sire!

You do it all brother! Actually someone in my little town over here was just diagnosed with it, I go about my daily business, no time to worry about some silly flu. Haha, till it gets me.

    1. Funny you should say that John, because that is the name I am using in my latest blog that’s all about Top Sexual Aids. At the moment it’s a work in progress, but that’s cool, like I’ve always said, there’s no point rushing it when it comes to sex.

  3. Probably doesn’t stop swine flu… but I bet they are making a lot of money. I am not going to comment on the quality of the product, because I have no idea if it is bad or good, as I know nothing about it. What I would say is there is lots of money to be made if you can sell products when a particular market is hot, which they are trying to doing here.

    1. Hi Doug. I’m sure this product has been out for awhile and they have just adjusted their marketing to include Swine Flu. I don’t know what it’s like in your neck of the woods, but we have had several deaths from Swine Flu, and each case has been due to the victim having other underlying symptoms.

There have been cases of students who contracted the disease, were subsequently quarantined. A week later they were back at school. This would suggest that healthy people are more likely to combat this new flu.

We should also remember that just as many people die from normal flu strains that die from Swine flu, and I have read that there are many who regard swine flu as a big media hype.

  4. Nice,.. thats right good immune body is the best swine flu defence :)

  5. Yes definitely the Flu protection will definitely help a lot. It is very great to know that you can protect yourself against swine flu.Nice post indeed.

    1. I’m still not sure that this stuff works, but I do believe that a health person with a strong immune system has a better chance of not getting the flu.

  6. yes, i’m skeptical of this working!.. like the comment above. Your immune system is the best chance of fighting it
    .-= make-up artist´s last blog ..Cookie Crumble =-.

    1. But that is just the point, the product is supposed to help a person’s immune system. There may actually be some truth in their claim considering that many people’s immune system may be below par because of poor diet or from leading a stressful life.

  7. The best current advice is for individuals to practice good hand hygiene. Periodic hand washing with soap and water, or the use of an alcohol-based hand sanitizer when hand washing is not possible, is a good preventive measure. Also, avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, as germs can more easily gain entrance into your body through those areas.

  8. And i’m personally concerned about people who undergo vaccination as in many cases this can cause the virus become even stronger and the body won’t be able to fight it.It seems like quite a dangerous action although its aim is to protect us.

    1. I’m with you, so perhaps prevention is better than a cure?
