There wouldn’t be too many bloggers writing today who didn’t have a rudimentary idea of how to promote their blog on the web. These ideas all fit into a nice little package called SEO, or Search Engine Optimization. Some of these ideas bloggers use may include;
- Commenting on other blogs, especially do-follow blogs
- Submitting the blog to RSS, blog and other directories
- Signature links in emails
- Being generous with your link luv
- Using Social Media such as Twitter, Digg, StumbleUpon etc.
- Submitting Free articles
- Being an active member in Forums using the blog link as a signature
- Using the right keyword and phrases
- Making sure that a google sitemap is active ensuring the blog is fully indexed
- Supplying good content, because all of the above is useless if a blog’s content is not good enough to capture the readers interest so that they come back for more.
There are many other ways but I’ve only mentioned some of the free methods available to bloggers for the promotion of their blogs.
I would like to talk a little bit more about submitting your blog to article directories. This is pretty well an untapped resource for many bloggers. These directories are not just a resource where you can Find Free content, as submitting your own articles, complete with a link to your blog, is a great way of blog promotion, especially if you’re supplying great content. Apart from the SEO advantages, people reading the articles are very likely to visit your blog just to see what other great content you have available.

Hi Sire, Its me Ron, been a long time since I last visit here. To many works to accomplish to little time to be spend.
Anyway, about the article directory submission, this is a really powerful way to promote your site and gain massive traffic. Article marketing or article syndication should be always included on any SEO strategy.

Hi Ron, I was wondering where you were
Don’t worry mate, I know what it’s like not having enough time to do all the things you have to do. Great to see you back.
Been busy for many different offline activities and event, and this coming September, I do have a brand new event here:
townsdelight.com/blog/foodtastingevent/1
Don’t know if I can go online the same way before.

Just do what you can Ron, just don’t stress out.
Great post Sire! One thing… you might want to move your Adsense ad on the top of your post to the right side, as it messed up your first few numbers in your list (at least in my browser).
All your points are great and I definitely can see where article marketing can really work well for Bloggers. I have done quite a bit of article marketing in the past with very good success, but I have never used it to drive traffic to my blogs. I am definitely going to give it a try. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah, I noticed the ordered list being messed up a bit.
Anyway, this post is very timely as I’ve just concluded an experiment that I, a newbie, conducted to prove the effectiveness of the keyphrase in the domain name of a site. My next experiment is how to maintain and even push its position up the google page. Yes, article submission and blog commenting are definitely relevant steps.

Thanks for the heads up Doug, problem solved, and yep it looks a lot better.
@ James – I’ll have to have a look at that post of yours, especially as my latest blog involves a keyword in the domain name. What a weird coincidence.
I’m pretty new to all this – can you suggest some article directories that are best? I do have this blog listed at Blog Catalog, but didn’t think of article directories.

Hi Christie, nice of you to drop in. There are so many I don’t know where to start. You may want to pay this link which will take you to a directory of article directories. It as a list of 200 directories which are individually categorized.
Great suggestions Sire but I must say that promoting ArticleAlley is a poor choice. An article directory that no-follow the author links is a crappy directory in my book.

I don’t know if that is entirely true Mikael. I’ve just had a look and while the author links are weird, the articles that had a link to the authors site were definitely do-follow. What I found amazing was that a lot of the authors didn’t put any link at the bottom of the article, which isn’t the article directory’s fault.
I’ve had decent success marketing my site through article directories. I have a list of what I consider the top ten, and I write about one article per week and submit it to them.
Great post. Submit quality articles on social sites definitely will increase your blog awareness.

Thanks Jacob.
Some people think that article directories are scuzzy, crappy SEO, but they still work to improve rankings. In particular they work well on niche sites as the link quality is pretty poor.

Those people who feel that way probably haven’t had much experience with article marketing or gave up way to soon. Like everything it takes awhile to get going.
David, I tried to post a comment on your blog but for some reason it wouldn’t take.
Hi,
They did go through. Will have to look if there is an error with different browsers. What browser do you use?
I’m using FireFox 3.0.13 I didn’t think it worked because nothing happened after clicking on the submit button.
Thanks. Will have to do some testing at some point :|
I heard that Google isn’t giving that much importance to article directories anymore, I still use it as a way to improve the SEO of my sites though.

That’s the thing with Google, they’re always changing their algorithms and it’s too hard to keep up with them.
SEO can get consistently drive large amounts of traffic to a site able to deliver consistently hot content..
Orangy – The Sweet Sour Tangy Taste of Life
That’s true only if it’s done properly and if one keeps up with Google continuously changing it’s algorithms
Neat & precise points!
I think you have definitely earned it, from looks of it! Sire, according to me, point no 4, 5 & 6 are really effective. But last point is most important point.

I can only encourage SEO article submissions, but be careful not to submit too many times the same article to avoid being penalized!
The best way to benefit from article directories is to use them and own them. Then you can control your own links in your own article directory the way you want and will recieve free content to your site.
