Andy Bailey Takes CommentLuv Up Another Notch
I use commentluv on all of my blogs and Andy Bailey is one of the few bloggers that I subscribe to. I’ve known for awhile that he has been playing around with a new version of his popular WordPress Plugin and I was really exited when he released the Beta version. I’ve installed it on WassupBlog to put it through its paces and with luck I think it will add another dimension to getting people to comment on individual blogs.
What makes this plugin different from the old one is that instead of parsing the last post it now enables you to choose from your last 10 posts. Think about all the times that you wished it hadn’t picked that particular post and how you would have prefered to have shown one that better related to the post you are commenting on.
Why not leave a comment and test it out. I know that you want to?
Edit: It seems that for the plugin to work correctly you need to register at commentluv.com. Registration is free so why not join.

Well.. that definitely sounds interesting. I can definitely say I have submitted comment’s and wished a different post was shown instead of my most recent.
Will be a great way to bring attention to old post’s that may never have received that much exposure before.
[Reply]
Interesting that it didn’t pick up your post. Did it come up with the selections at least?
[Reply]
Below this comment box it is displaying my last post… I dont have an option to select what post I want displayed though.
[Reply]
Well I’ve just logged out so that I can test it. I can see at the bottom of the comment box where it has picked up my last post from my BS blog and below that is the selection box that says “Click to choose a different post to show”. AH, I see, for it to work properly you have to be registered at CommentLuv
[Reply]
Interesting.. I have tried to register with commentluv but it does not want to load for me..
[Reply]
Since I’ve been having problems, as you have, let’s see what it has to offer this time around. Course, I don’t see the option right now.
And, I just tried to go to the commentluv site by clicking on your icon below; seems it’s down. :-(
[Reply]
Try again later. I know that Andy has changed to another server and it seems that he is having a spot of bother with it. Man I hate that
[Reply]
lol, sorry about this! I tried it on 3 different blogs on 3 different browsers and it worked flawlessly. it appears as though the onsubmit event isn’t firing. everything else is working and named properly on this form so I don’t know why it’s not seeing the submit event :-(
maybe I should wait until the form is process by wordpress and add the post there…. ho hum I suppose this is what beta testing is for!
[Reply]
I think I see the problem, there is some other javascript inserted by brians threaded comments plugin that appears to be taking over the submit button and replacing it with it’s own and submitting the form via javascript so my script can’t ‘hear’ the event.
the only way I can make it compatible with brians threaded comments is either add a function to his javascript or change the way commentluv adds the last post. what shame! I like the threaded comments but I like commentluv more :-)
[Reply]
No worries Andy fire away. I hope you work it out. I’ve logged out to test it on my end and it works fine???
Edit: Except that it didn’t show the highlighted post??
[Reply]
I think I have a version that might work for you, I’ll send to the blogsire address

Yes Mitch and all to no avail. I see it did not pick up your commentluv. Did you at least get the selection?
[Reply]
No, nothing at all.
[Reply]
That is weird. I have logged off and am writing this as if I was a visitor and the selection box appeared as soon as I started typing. Let me see which post shall I choose. How about the one about developing good blogging habits?

You know me; I hate registering for stuff if I don’t have to. That’s why I haven’t registered for a gravatar yet; and you still haven’t told me if that’s how you created your avatar, or how you did it (your little picture with every message).

Pangeran, apparently, unless your blog is registered at commentluv it only shows the last post. I will edit the post to reflect this, although I do believe I may have mentioned it in one of the comments.

Stupid plugins don’t always work the way we want them to, do they? Still, enough of them work to get the job done. And when CommentLuv works, like it seems to be working now, it’s one of the best.

Damn, that last comment was all I needed to persuade me to remove that plugin. Thanks Mitch.
Edit: Oops, the plugin works on characters and not words.
So I upped the characters to fifty from the original twenty to see how that works.

Hi Sire,
I heard about this new version when Andy came to my blog to announce it when I wrote a post on CommentLuv. I will definitely upload this plugin. But can you tell me if it works. I am not able to select a post other than my last post even though I have registered at Commentluv.

Hi Sire,
It still won’t work. It’s still showing nothing when I select ‘click to show a different post to show’, although it took very long seemingly to get some data from commentluv. When that ended nothing happened, so I changed it back to the last post url. Perhaps I’m missing something.

1. my last post
2. Register your site at commentluv.com
to list more posts
3. do not show
I have since yesterday registered using your “join” link in your post and updated my profile to include my blog url (is that it?)

Hi Sire,
I just managed to successfully reinstall this new plugin. I thought it didn’t work but realize it was because I signed in as ‘admin’. Tried re-login again and it worked. But it’s the first time at someone’s blog so here goes..(checking)…..yep it works alright. I could change my post to another at your blog. Real cool man.
BTW I saw you posted a comment at Andy’s support site saying your commentluv didn’t work. What happened?
Peter Lee
p.s. BTW, could you tell me what plugin you used for your ‘Similar Posts’. Mine failed with my new theme, so I’m looking for another. I presume you’re using WP 2.6?

I’m not actually using a plugin for ’similar posts’, it’s actually built into the theme.
