I use commentluv on all of my blogs and Andy Bailey is one of the few bloggers that I subscribe to. I’ve known for awhile that he has been playing around with a new version of his popular WordPress Plugin and I was really exited when he released the Beta version. I’ve installed it on WassupBlog to put it through its paces and with luck I think it will add another dimension to getting people to comment on individual blogs.
What makes this plugin different from the old one is that instead of parsing the last post it now enables you to choose from your last 10 posts. Think about all the times that you wished it hadn’t picked that particular post and how you would have prefered to have shown one that better related to the post you are commenting on.
Why not leave a comment and test it out. I know that you want to?
Edit: It seems that for the plugin to work correctly you need to register at commentluv.com. Registration is free so why not join.

Well.. that definitely sounds interesting. I can definitely say I have submitted comment’s and wished a different post was shown instead of my most recent.
Will be a great way to bring attention to old post’s that may never have received that much exposure before.
Twitter: AussieSire
Interesting that it didn’t pick up your post. Did it come up with the selections at least?
Below this comment box it is displaying my last post… I dont have an option to select what post I want displayed though.
Twitter: AussieSire
Well I’ve just logged out so that I can test it. I can see at the bottom of the comment box where it has picked up my last post from my BS blog and below that is the selection box that says “Click to choose a different post to show”. AH, I see, for it to work properly you have to be registered at CommentLuv
Interesting.. I have tried to register with commentluv but it does not want to load for me..
Since I’ve been having problems, as you have, let’s see what it has to offer this time around. Course, I don’t see the option right now.
And, I just tried to go to the commentluv site by clicking on your icon below; seems it’s down. :-(
Twitter: AussieSire
Try again later. I know that Andy has changed to another server and it seems that he is having a spot of bother with it. Man I hate that :furious_tb:
lol, sorry about this! I tried it on 3 different blogs on 3 different browsers and it worked flawlessly. it appears as though the onsubmit event isn’t firing. everything else is working and named properly on this form so I don’t know why it’s not seeing the submit event :-(
maybe I should wait until the form is process by wordpress and add the post there…. ho hum I suppose this is what beta testing is for!
Twitter: AussieSire
No worries Andy fire away. I hope you work it out. I’ve logged out to test it on my end and it works fine???
Edit: Except that it didn’t show the highlighted post??
I think I have a version that might work for you, I’ll send to the blogsire address
lets give this a go now
Andy Baileys last blog post..Keeping it simple is sometimes hard
Twitter: AussieSire
Cool, and this is just to test to see if Brian’s Threaded comment still works. If it does I will leave it on
Twitter: AussieSire
Seems like you’ve nipped it in the bud Andy. Thanks mate.
I can now see your new commentluv feature. Although im not registered with comment love it still showing the box related to choosing what post I want to join me with my comment.
Webmasters Worlds last blog post..Are You Building Enough Back Links?
Based on all the email, y’all have been busy while I’ve been asleep!
Twitter: AussieSire
Yes Mitch and all to no avail. I see it did not pick up your commentluv. Did you at least get the selection?
No, nothing at all.
Sire.. I couldnt find a place to post this… When I click your little RSS icon it just reloads your main page again.
Webmasters Worlds last blog post..Are You Building Enough Back Links?
Twitter: AussieSire
Sorry, you’ve lost me. Post what? The comment? As for the RSS icon I clicked and it took me to the feed, or did I click the wrong one? The only one I see says “Subscribe To Wassup?
Twitter: AussieSire
That is weird. I have logged off and am writing this as if I was a visitor and the selection box appeared as soon as I started typing. Let me see which post shall I choose. How about the one about developing good blogging habits?
Sires last blog post..Developing Good Blogging Habits Is Essential
I have also changed accounts, and on this one, I see it showing only my lst post, but at least it’s showing something.
Mitchs last blog post..Check The Ceiling For Spiders
Twitter: AussieSire
I reckon it’s certainly a step in the right direction.
I’m giving it one more shot with my other blog, and this time it is showing up; whew!
Of course, now you have to come answer a response you got on my blog. :-)
Mitchs last blog post..My Top Five Presentations In My History
Twitter: AussieSire
Wow, I have a question. Gee, mate, I didn’t realize that answering questions was part of the whole guest post thing.
Twitter: AussieSire
Yes, but is it allowing you to select from your last 10 posts?
No, that’s not coming up, but then I haven’t registered, so maybe it depends on that.
Mitchs last blog post..My Top Five Presentations In My History
Twitter: AussieSire
Nope, you need to be registered…..what are you waiting for…LOL?
You know me; I hate registering for stuff if I don’t have to. That’s why I haven’t registered for a gravatar yet; and you still haven’t told me if that’s how you created your avatar, or how you did it (your little picture with every message).
Mitchs last blog post..My Top Five Presentations In My History
Twitter: AussieSire
Sorry Mitch, originally I thought you meant the favicon icon, but to answer your question, some of them come from mybloglog, some from sezwho and some from Gravatar. How is that for confusing the situation?
Let’s see what it can do?
Just show my latest post.
All other option said, please register your site at commentluv…
Twitter: AussieSire
Pangeran, apparently, unless your blog is registered at commentluv it only shows the last post. I will edit the post to reflect this, although I do believe I may have mentioned it in one of the comments.
Okay, how’s this?
Mitchs last blog post..Be Responsible For Your Own Life
That’s an awesome new feature.
Susans last blog post..Portofino
Twitter: AussieSire
Yes it is Susan, and you somehow slipped past my 15 word minimum.
Stupid plugins don’t always work the way we want them to, do they? Still, enough of them work to get the job done. And when CommentLuv works, like it seems to be working now, it’s one of the best.
Mitchs last blog post..Be Responsible For Your Own Life
Twitter: AussieSire
That’s for sure. Do me a favor Mitch and see if it allows you to enter a short comment?
Twitter: AussieSire
Damn, that last comment was all I needed to persuade me to remove that plugin. Thanks Mitch.
Edit: Oops, the plugin works on characters and not words.
So I upped the characters to fifty from the original twenty to see how that works.
Hi Sire,
I heard about this new version when Andy came to my blog to announce it when I wrote a post on CommentLuv. I will definitely upload this plugin. But can you tell me if it works. I am not able to select a post other than my last post even though I have registered at Commentluv.

Thanks Andy for explaining that, it seems that was one important point I forgot to mention. And Thanks Peter for the question, as usual it was a good one.
Sires last blog post..So, Does Oprah Actually Promote Bullshit?
Hi Sire,
It still won’t work. It’s still showing nothing when I select ‘click to show a different post to show’, although it took very long seemingly to get some data from commentluv. When that ended nothing happened, so I changed it back to the last post url. Perhaps I’m missing something.

I assume you mean this blog and not yours? I’ve logged out to test it as it won’t work while I am logged in.It seems to work fine for me. Just to test I will pick…..oops error message. Perhaps Any is having server problems again?
Sires last blog post..What Do You Do To Promote Trust From Your Readers?
Sire, I’m not sure why, but I’m getting each of your messages twice from this blog.
Twitter: AussieSire
You reckon it’s the new commentluv Mitch? I’m only getting the one email?
No, and I’ve just figured out why. It’s because, on this post, I switched between blogs to help test something out, so both are subscribed. Goofy me!
Mitchs last blog post..Why My Scam Meter Goes Up
Twitter: AussieSire
OK Mitch, I reckon I can forgive you this once mate ;)
Sire,
I mean this blog. I am still not finding the list of posts that I can select from. It’s showing:
1. my last post
2. Register your site at commentluv.com
to list more posts
3. do not show
I have since yesterday registered using your “join” link in your post and updated my profile to include my blog url (is that it?)
Can tell me what I missed?
Peter Lee
Twitter: AussieSire
Did you place the verification code on your blog?
Sires last blog post..Show Me A Blogger Who Loves What He Does And I Will Show You A Happy Blogger
Hi Sire,
I just managed to successfully reinstall this new plugin. I thought it didn’t work but realize it was because I signed in as ‘admin’. Tried re-login again and it worked. But it’s the first time at someone’s blog so here goes..(checking)…..yep it works alright. I could change my post to another at your blog. Real cool man.
BTW I saw you posted a comment at Andy’s support site saying your commentluv didn’t work. What happened?
Peter Lee
p.s. BTW, could you tell me what plugin you used for your ‘Similar Posts’. Mine failed with my new theme, so I’m looking for another. I presume you’re using WP 2.6?
Work At Home Ideass last blog post..Work At Home Ideas’ Blog Contest
Twitter: AussieSire
Hi, Peter. Yeah, the plugin didn’t work but it was on another site. Andy helped me out, as usual, and it’s fine now.
I’m not actually using a plugin for ‘similar posts’, it’s actually built into the theme.
Not that I’m going to use it, Sire, but where did you find this particular theme? I’m looking at new themes for my business blog.
Mitchs last blog post..1&1 Is Killing Me
Twitter: AussieSire
Hi Mitch, I got it from WordPress Themes and he has actually just released a white version of the theme. I may actually use it on my BS blog.
If is really work, i’m going to use it as well, it is good to show the last post of the commenter but it is great if it have the option of choose a post of 10 post.
Let’s see what happen to my comment.
Twitter: AussieSire
nine times out of 10 it does work W D, I reckon you were unlucky.
Hey Sire,
Recently Andy upgraded this plugin and I’ve yet to reinstall it (lazy I guess). Do you know what’s this upgrade about and what I’d missed for not upgrading. Did you?
Peter

Hard to say as I’m not sure how long it’s been since your last upgrade. No need to be lazy Peter as you can upgrade straight from the plugin page without having to download the new version
Thanks a lot andy! It seems that was one important point I forgot to mention. And Thanks Peter for the question, as usual it was a good one.
Sire, this looks cool.
Does it works with Wp 2.7?
Twitter: AussieSire
I reckon, seeing as how I am using 2.7

Hi, I just published my very own blog for the first time. This is all about my journey as a mom and how I am making money by working online. Now, please do not go thinking that I am just promoting my blog. I just wanted to ask if you know of any tutorial that will enable me to install commentluv. It’s on wordpress and I haven’t purchased the domain. Is that even posibble? Thanks ahead.

God on you for starting you very first blog Russell. Your best bet is to head on over to Andy’s blog, as he created the plugin and ask him. He’ll put you on the right track.
Personally though, if I was you I would host it on my own domain as it many advantages.

I have been seriously considering getting Comment Luv installed on my website. There are definitely a lot of benefits about it. It definitely attracts more traffic and you can get more commenting on your site. Thanks for posting!

There are even more benefits for the Premium version Elena.
Even Hesham has talked about this on FamousBloggers! Awesome update! Andy always comes up with something great! Cheers to him man!

While I’m a big fan of commentluv, I think that anyone commenting on a blog should earn it by providing really good comments that add value. Offering them the option to choose which recent post they want to display does not necessarily generate additional page views. However, there is, it appears, an option to choose one when you’ve posted 10 approved comments

No it doesn’t Steve, but it does give them the added incentive to leave a comment. Without it many people would have left without having added to the conversation.

I think I see the problem, there is some other javascript inserted by brians threaded comments plugin that appears to be taking over the submit button and replacing it with it’s own and submitting the form via javascript so my script can’t ‘hear’ the event.
the only way I can make it compatible with brians threaded comments is either add a function to his javascript or change the way commentluv adds the last post. what shame! I like the threaded comments but I like commentluv more :-)
