A Blogger’s View On Google Chrome
Yep, I am one of those guys that just has to try every new gadget, especially when it is free, so first chance I got I downloaded Google Chrome. I am actually typing this post whilst using the Google Chrome browser and I haven’t read any other reviews as I wanted this to be completely unbiased.
Good Points
- My blogs all look great in it. This was a real worry and the last thing I wanted was to start modifying the themes to work with this browser.
- It was a breeze to set up, no problems at all and seemlessly imported all my passwords and bookmarks.
- It is bloody fast, it’s like the computer has been turbocharged as so far all the pages load a lot quicker than FireFox or Internet Explorer.
- Memory usage seems heaps better and it also allocates the memory diferently. FireFox used to increase the memory usage every time a new tab is opened whereas Google Chrome simply opens another process allowing it to manage each tab individually.
- Simple, no bells and whistles although I reckon there will be some users who will see this as a fault. I have no doubt that addons will become availabe that will provide the bling effect for these users.
Bad Points
- Shit! So far as I can tell, I can’t see any other than it doesn’t display my favicon in the search bar. It does however display it in the tabs.
I have decided to run a little poll, but as we all know a poll can only tell you so much and I would really appreciate if you could take the time to leave a comment on your personal experience with Google Chrome!

Sire !
I like it that you have added ‘simple‘ as a good point. The thing to remember is, it is a first release browser, I reckon the more important thing is to have a solid browser than the one with a lot of cool features that is not based on strong architecture.
I did a post on how I think Chrome will affect the game, on my blog yesterday. Do have a look..

Simple is definitely a good point. What a lot of people fail to see is that in there is always a cost to having “Bells And Whistle” whether it be power consumption or speed. Hell, in that case of those people who choose to wear ‘bling’ I reckon the cost factor relates to the hip pocket.
I’m off to your blog now.

This is the second review I’ve seen about Google Chrome, and not at all the same.
Some are saying that Google Chrome is rather slow, but that it could be to the influx of people downloading it and using it all at the same time. Or, it could just be a problem here in the States.
Great post, though. I haven’t yet tried downloading the new browser, that’s something I leave to the hubby as he’s my computer tech and I don’t dare muck up his masterpiece. LOLOLOL

Oh I know the reasoning behind that Christine, it’s so that he still feels useful, I’ve always said there was a method behind your madness lol.
As for Google Chrome, that was why I wanted to do this review before I read of other users experience, so that this review is completely unbiased, especially from a blogger who has a bone to pick with the Google mob for lowering my PR

The bad point: I have to wait for a Mac-version to be released at a later date God knows when. I can’t form any opinion right now as I haven’t seen it myself in action.

Did your poll ! By the way, do you know why my last post does not appear here ??
[Reply]
I have no idea. Did you fill out all the details correctly especially your blog’s home page address? It has something to do with the commentluv plugin and unfortunately that is beyond my control, although I do know that Andy is working on a new one that will actually let you point to an existing post on your blog. I hope to be trialling that soon.

I had a way different review of Chrome than you did. It didn’t load easy, and it didn’t run faster than Firefox in my test. Seems to be a mixed bag depending on who you read at this juncture.

I notice that as I did a bit of blog hopping Mitch and in the process I discovered something more sinister. I did a post about it on my BS blog which commentluv will hopefully pick up.
BTW, I notice that it didn’t pick up your last post again. It’s done the same thing to me on a couple of other blogs. Perhaps it doesn’t work sometimes if the server is down or something?

There is a preset time frame for CommentLuv to pick the rss feed. In most cases, if the site loading time is too slow at that particular point in time, nothing will be shown.
Sire, I’ll email you on the RSS thing sorri for the delay as I’m finishing a review for tomorrow delivery. Good luck…
Cheers

Thanks Yan, both for the email and for the information on why commentluv doesn’t always parse the last post.

Ok my last post didn’t work. Anyways, google Chrome is just another way of Google exploiting and monetizing the net for their own research purposes. Sure it is free and open source but they have a few tricks up their sleeves, we all know it. I really wish google’s chunk of the Internet would drop, oh well, wishful thinking…….

I agree with you that it would be good for everyone involved if Google had some decent competition, I just don’t see it happening any time soon.
