Hey guys it’s almost Christmas and I wanted this post to reflect a little about this most special time of the year. I was going to post a copy of a Christmas poem that I wrote on Helium but then I remembered that I did that last year. As there was no point in posting it again I though it best to write another Christmas poem, one that I hope will strike a chord with some of my readers.
Yeah, I know some of you guys aren’t into poetry but I figure there’s no reason why you shouldn’t attempt to broaden your horizons a little every once in awhile.
I know how Christmas can mean different things to different people and so it would be pointless for me to try and fulfill all those individual needs with this one poem, so I thought it best to portray a little of what it means to me.
Christmas comes but once a year
And to many one thing is very clear
For many it’s all about the shopping spree
Or even decorating the Christmas tree
The Christmas lights many a house adorn
Whilst a few Scrooges walk by looking forlorn
But there is more to Christmas than meets the eye
A lot more than just eating some fruit mince pie
It’s a story about a child born in a manger
Born there because his parents fled the danger
For King Herod made the decree all baby boys to die
Scared was he that the birth of Jesus meant his time was nigh
It’s a story of the love of our Father
For He Loved us so much that he’d rather
Sacrifice his Son so that all who believed
The real reason why Jesus was conceived
For He is our Savior and our teacher too
For he taught us all that we must do
To be as He was while on this Earth
For we must follow him for all we are worth
The path may not be easy that is true
But better the hardships than hell to queue
The rewards are great and so we strive
To reach the end to be truly alive
So this Christmas when loved ones are near
Remember the true reason for the Christmas cheer
It’s that we all get together to celebrate
That love is so much more important than hate
Merry Christmas everyone. I hope you all have a great time and that it’s a special one for each and every one of you.

Well that was just lovely Sire. I love how you covered the religious meaning behind Christmas as well as the whimsical side of it:) All that on top of how cutesy your theme is right now with the snowmen.
BTW what’s the plug-in to use to notify the commenter of a reply?

Hi Karen, I’m glad you liked it and it means a lot coming from a poet such as yourself.
The reply to comment feature is part of my plugin.

Hi Sire
Love that you wrote a poem about the true meaning of Christmas…Immanuel God with us in human form.
You are full of surprises Sire ;-) I wasn’t blogging last Christmas so it’s really interesting visiting blogs during this festive season.
Been over to Tristan’s blog and he has a Christian message on his site as well as a great analogy tying it in for all bloggers.
Happy Christmas Sire to you and your family. May 2011 bring health, happiness and all that you hope for. Been great getting to know you in 2010 and looking forward to what 2011 has for all of us.

Hi
gift at Christmas and your blessing all year through! … Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening
That’s another cool Christmas message you got there Sire, compressed in poem form. It’s lyrical and so rhythmic I can almost imagine a beat in the background and a rapper artist delivering it a la Will Smith. :)
Merry Christmas to you and the whole family Sire!
Twitter: AussieSire
Actually James, as I was reading it back to myself, after countless alterations, I must admit I could almost hear a beat in the background. Gee, maybe someone famous will turn it into a Christmas rap song
Great poem Sire, you have an artistic spirit. I just noticed that bloggers tend to right great poetry.
Have a great Christmas with your family and all your loved ones!

In reply to Karen’s question, do you use “Subscribe to Comments” plugin? That is the one I use to allow comment authors to stay in touch with updates to comments on each post.

Damn, I thought I left a link to that plugin in my comment. :furious_tb: never mind, shit happens :grin1_ee:
It’s actually a part of my threaded comments plugin Michael. I know it’s inbuilt into WP now but it wasn’t when I started using it. I tried uninstalling it and using the inbuilt WP one and although the threads still there the comments themselves won’t thread anymore. So for now I’m stuck with it.
Sire recently posted…There’s More To Helium Than Meets the Eye
Oooh.. thanks for the headsup that removing it can break previously threaded comments. Hmmm thats something to keep an eye one. Annoying to get stuck with a plugin for sure!

Yep. I may play around with it some more when I have more time but for now it’s not too much of a hassle as the threading is quite good and it does also let people subscribe to comments so it’s actually doing two things at once.
Happy holidays to you and your love ones Sire. May 2011 bring your more power, joy, health and peace.

Peter the Poet…isn’t it silly, all the fuss made over wishing one another a “Merry Christmas”? All these attempts to turn it into something it isn’t – a purely secular holiday? Non-Christians are welcome to share in the joy, if they will – but it IS a celebration of Christ’s birth and Christianity, no matter what your beliefs.
Merry Christmas to you and your family. I wish you joy and a wonderful 2011.

What a great reminder of what Christmas is really all about! You truly captured the real meaning of the Christmas season. So many people seem to lose sight of God’s gift to us.
Twitter: AussieSire
Thank you Allie, I’m glad you liked it.
Very beautiful Sire,
Christmas week was so busy for me that I didn’t see your poem before. The fact that God exists and loves us and gave us a chance to restore our relationship to him is what grounds me and gives me peace in this turbulent world. If I didn’t have the Lord,I would be completely and utterly lost. I can honestly say that He is number one in my life right now. Nothing else can even get near to His importance to me. Thanks for sharing your faith.
Blessings,
Eren
Twitter: AussieSire
I’m g;ad you liked the poem Eren. God should always be number one, unfortunately the troubles of life sometimes push him to the side when in reality he should be foremost because he can resolve them for us.
It’s so much harder for those of our times to realize this. It’s not like those times when Jesus was alive or even before that in the days of the Old Testament and people witnessed miracles being performed. Even then many followed false paths. We on the other hand rely on faith alone.
