Global Helping Hand For Bloggers Day

It’s a pretty well known fact that many bloggers exist today because they want to share their acquired knowledge with others, and this is indeed a very good thing that they do. Wouldn’t it be great though if they could go beyond merely sharing their experience in a well thought out post.

There are many ways that we can help other bloggers, some of which I would like to outline below.

Comment on their blog. This is a win win situation, as you are building their morale as well as helping to build your presence on the Net.
Reply to comments left on your blog. Not everybody does this, and that’s a shame. Stand out from the crowd by showing your readers you appreciate their comment by replying to them wherever possible. Does not mean that you have to reply to every single comment.
Share some link luv. Again, a win win situation as this will inform others of great content that you’ve found and may well earn some brownie points with the one getting the link luv. If it doesn’t, don’t sweat it because it’s always better to give than it is to receive.
Promoting Blogger Projects: Let’s face it, most of us are pretty green when it comes to marketing, but imagine how much help it would be if we were to help when we come across a blogger who has a special talent but is finding it hard to market their products. It could be an eBook, arts and craft, a forum or whatever. Wouldn’t it be great if we could give them a little boost.
Affiliate products: Almost every blogger is promoting one affiliate or another, but when we’re in the market for purchasing a product, do we remember to support one of our blogger mates?

These are just a few ideas that I’ve come up with, and I was hoping that you guys could contribute to this small list. As to what day we should use for the Global Helping Hand For Bloggers Day, I reckon it shouldn’t be limited to a single day. It should be left open, for we never know when you come across someone that you can give a helping hand.

OK, just to get the ball rolling I would like to mention a few sites. Sheryl has been a loyal reader of this blog and she seems to have a liking, probably helped by her talented daughter Cait, for those cute fluffy animals. Well, they’ve decided to turn their love of fluffies into an online store called Fuzzy Wuzzy Anipals! These cute fluffy toys would be great for any special occasion, especially Christmas.

Just today I’ve happen to come across a talented artist called Jay Zuck, who is displaying some of his artwork on his blog. Honestly, you should hop on ever and check them out. While there why not enter his contest to win one of his great works of art.

Then there’s Holly, another talented blogger that I’ve only just met. Not only a blogger, Holly is an author and you could win an autographed copy of her A Guppy Not A Puppy children’s book.

Finally, I’ve been having a little problem with the software that scans my email for spam and shit, as it’s allowing way too many spam emails through. I’ve decided it was time to update, and low and behold Mitch just happened to do a post on Mailwasher. Just yesterday I decided to take the trial offer, but honestly I was so thrilled by it that I’m going to buy it from Mitch’s post, all the while hoping he will make something from it. Update On Probloggers And Commenting

Well, it seems I have created quite a stir with my Why I No Longer Link To The Likes Of ProBlogger And John Chow post. I know this to be true because in a matter of a few days it’s become the most popular post on this blog. The poll on whether or not commenting can harm your blogging success so far seems to be favoring the no it won’t side, but I will leave the follow up post for when I have accrued more votes.

I sort of wonder from some of the comments left on David’s post, how many people actually took the time to actually read my post? I got the impression that people thought I was attacking the Probloggers of this world for not replying to any of my comments. How stupid and arrogant would that make me, to presume that just because I left a comment they were obligated to return the favor.

Nope, what I was saying was that as far as I was concerned my time would be better spent to associate with people who thought the same way as I do, who thought so highly of their commentators that they interacted with them. Seeing as how some of the Probloggers pointed out that time was money and all they would appreciate that line of thought.

Also I don’t believe that I ever said that they had to reply to every single comment. Heck even I don’t do that, although I do answer most of them. Yet a lot of the comments insinuated that was exactly what I said. :nono_tb:

One guy even implied that I did the post as a form of link bait to get the attention of the Probloggers, when in actual fact there were no links to any of them. Man, the purpose of the whole post was why I wasn’t linking to them, and linking to them in the post would be defeating the purpose.

Still, it was an interesting exercise, and I still believe in the stance that I took. I understand the time argument, as I know all about the lack of time, seeing as how I run a successful offline business, have to allow time for my family as well as maintaining seven blogs. When things are tough I simply have to be careful how I allocate my time and the less important blogs are the first one to be put aside.

One thing I have learned is that the unwillingness, or inability for the Probloggers of this world to give commentators their proper due, leaves emerging bloggers with an advantage. When there is more than one business in the same niche trying to compete for a particular market, what they do differently is what can make them successful.

As bloggers we are up against a sea full of competitors. Perhaps taking the time to interact with our readers, as well as providing good content and service will help us to stand out from the rest. And, if we were to link to others who also believed as we do, perhaps we would be starting a new era of Probloggers?

A Recap On My Hottest Poems

it seems that my blog post Why I No Longer Link To The Likes Of ProBlogger And John Chow has created quite a stir. That being the case WassupBlog has been inundated with new visitors and the business / online marketer in me is shouting out, Come on you fool, now is the time to capitalize on all that traffic and make some money. You need a post full of affiliate links or something. MOVE!

Instead, what am I going to do? I’m going to take this time to settle things down little by recapping on some of my old posts, and not just any old posts, my poetry ones.

Now the recapping of old posts is generally a good thing as it allows you to bring some of those old post out of the moth ridden closets and into the light. Linking between posts is also a good SEO tactic.

The Child Of God: Yeah, what can I say, I’m a Christian, probably not a good one, but I believe in God all the same. This one just shows a little of my perspective on the subject.

Google Bots And Halloween: I wrote this one just for Halloween, and just putting a little spin on how some people may perceive the dreaded Google Bots.

A Poem For Halloween The Night Of Frights: Another one for Halloween, with a bit of a twist. Hopefully the wife will never see this one.

Blog me This You Blogging Fools: One of my link luv poems in which I try to share a little link luv with my blogging mates.

What Bloggers Do: Another little poem used to share link luv. I tried in both poems to include a little lesson on what blogging is about.

Bullshit Is Not A Dirty Word: Apart from Darren Rowse and some other ‘older Aussies’ there may not be many who have heard of the Aussie Band SkyHooks. Well, they had a song called “Ego Is Not a Dirty Word“, well after I got through with it, the song had an entirely new meaning.

Dragons Creatures Of Mystery: This poem was written to portray my love of dragons and come complete with a couple of dragons in my collection.

Will Commenting Harm Your Blogging Success?

Man, I love it when comments lead you to a new post. Most people seem to miss that when they sit wondering what to write about next. Analyze your comments and those of your peers folks as you are bound to find some inspiration for a post.

Anyway I digress. The other day I wrote the post Why I No Longer Link To The Likes Of ProBlogger And John Chow, that seems to have created quite a stir. One of my commentators added David Risley to the bunch which happened to get him involved in the discussion.

In their defense he came up with the following post, When Comments Begin To Hurt Your Blogging Success! This would only be true if you spent every single moment of your time commenting, leaving no time for marketing and such. I can’t see anybody doing that.

I personally believe that taking the time to comment can only enhance your presence, especially when others are found lacking in this area. It’s all about time management, and taking the time to interact with people is as important, if not more so, as focusing on ways of increasing your blogs revenue.

If you consider your commentators as customers how much more likely are they going to send people your way if you show them, by replying to their comments, that you value their input?

Sound like a good time for a poll. I think a simple yes or no will do the trick.

Using Amazon’s Conversion Power To Generate Christmas Sales

As most of you can see I’ve tweaked my theme a little to give it a little Christmas feel about it. This was really easy because I use the FlexSqueeze theme and to help others using the same theme I posted a little tutorial on how I made the changes.

Still I don’t feel as if I have done enough to set the stage and so I think it’s only fitting that I entertain you with a Christmas poem of mine. Even though I wrote this last year, this is the first time it’s appeared on this blog.

I hope you enjoy it.

It’s almost Christmas, the day is near
Everyone prays that there be good cheer
The meaning of Christmas differs for all
Not everyone puts holly in the hall

Businessmen think of the money they’ll make
Terrorists of the lives they may take
Children of gifts they will receive
Parents of the mess it will leave

So many of us on this day we forget
The child that was born and the kings he met
The man that grew with peace in his heart
With love for all till the day he did part

Oh that this day could bring joy for all
That terror and hate from all would fall
To be left behind and be seen no more
That each and everyone we may adore

That poverty would cease to exist
That peace would rein in our midst
That rulers learn to live in harmony
That less importance be placed on money

Turn each to the other and clasp their hands
Though we live in far strung lands
We must make a stand for what we believe
Let’s think no more of how to deceive

Now, I know that not everybody likes poems and that perhaps one or two of you may have completely skipped this post because of that. Well I reckon I may have a little something extra for those of you who managed to read it to the end and beyond.

While the most important part of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and everything that he has brought to the world, you can’t escape the fact that it’s probably the one season when people are quite happy to open their wallets in search of that special gift for family and friends. This being the case most bloggers should have made preparations to capitalize on this seasons potential for increasing their blogging income.

Personally I’ve left it a little late, as I should have done some posts promoting products way before today. Even so, perhaps there is something in that old saying better late than never.

Usually when promoting a product I will shove a banner in the post somewhere in the hope that someone will click on it. Sure it works sometimes but generally it’s been a little disappointing. So, it left me wondering as to what I could do to increase peoples willingness to click on a product and perhaps making a sale.

I’ve done several posts blaming it all on the landing pages as they were not converting the customers I was sending them to actual sales. Perhaps people are more aware of online shopping these days and are a little untrustworthy of a lot online stores.

I then came across this post by two grouse Aussie sheilas :smile1_ee: , a post that gave me a whole new perspective on how I should tackle online marketing. Their post, How Much Did We Make on Amazon This Month?, shows how they managed to make a whole lot of cash and all because Amazon was able to convert the people they sent over to buying customers. And guess what? No banners, only text links.

So, perhaps people are virtually blind to banners these days, but are more willing to click on a link if that link is relevant to what they are looking for. Perhaps these same people trust Amazon and are therefore more likely to make a purchase. Sure their payout isn’t all that crash hot, but the more you sell the greater the commission. Sounds like a bit of an incentive to me.

I’ve tried the text links over banners idea on my Top Sexual Aids blog. The post A Special Gift For The Person Who Has Everything uses links instead of banners. I haven’t had time to see whether Amazon has any products I can use and I’m not expecting many sales as the blog is new and hasn’t got much traffic yet. Perhaps next year.
