What Made The Baby Boomers So Strong?

Every now and again I come across an email that I just have to post about and this is one of those messages.

CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE READING THIS WHO WAS BORN IN THE 1930′s 1940′s, 50′s, and 60′s!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us and lived in houses made of asbestos. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese, raw egg products, loads of bacon and processed meat, tuna from a can, and didn’t get tested for diabetes or cervical cancer.

Then after that trauma, our baby cots were covered with bright colored lead-based paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets or shoes, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags. We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle. Take away food was limited to fish and chips, no pizza shops, McDonalds , KFC, Subway or Nandos.

Even though all the shops closed at 6.00pm and didn’t open on the weekends, somehow we didn’t starve to death! We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this..

We could collect old drink bottles and cash them in at the corner store and buy Toffees, Gobstoppers, Bubble Gum and some bangers to blow up frogs with. We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soft drinks with sugar in it, but we weren’t overweight because……

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!! We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of old prams and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. We built tree houses and dens and played in river beds with matchbox cars.

We didn’t have Playstations, Nintendo Wii , X-boxes, actually we didn’t have any video games at all, no 999 channels on SKY, no video/dvd films, no mobile phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms………. WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no Lawsuits from these accidents. Only girls had pierced ears! We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

You could only buy Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns at Easter time…

We were given air guns and catapults for our 10th birthdays. We rode bikes or walked to a friend’s house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them!

Mum didn’t have to go to work to help dad make ends meet!

RUGBY and CRICKET had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn’t had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! Getting into the team was based on MERIT!!

Our teachers used to hit us with canes and gym shoes and sometimes a well aimed blackboard duster would hit it’s mark. Bully’s always ruled the playground at school.

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of because they actually sided with the law!

Our parents didn’t invent stupid names for their kids like ‘Kiora’ and ‘Blade’ and ‘Ridge’ and ‘Vanilla’

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL! And YOU are one of them!

CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good. And while you are at it, why not sit your kids down and make them read it so they will know how brave their parents were.

I’ve done a fair view videos, some of which I’ve edited and titled to offer a complete package for family and friends. While I reckon they come out pretty well I know my limitations. There is no way in hell that I would attempt to put something together for anything as important as a business presentation or a Corporate Video. That would be sheer lunacy, and while I may be known as a bit of a joker I am no fool.

No matter how good I think a particular project may turn out I just haven’t got the expertise to produce something of a professional quality. It’s not just the expertise that makes a good presentation, it also has a lot to do with the software and equipment that’s used for the editing, titling and special effects if needed.

Outsourcing projects such as trade shows, promotional videos or even marketing and training aids is best left to those who know what they are doing. I remember awhile ago how we had to hire a guy to present a safety course to our drivers, something that set as back quite a bit at the time. Thinking about it now, we would have been a lot better off having a training video made. The obvious reason for this, something we didn’t think of at the time, is that we can’t afford to hire someone for a presentation every time we employ a new driver, therefore a training tape would have make so much more sense.

I don’t really know why we didn’t think of it at the time, it just never came to us. Perhaps we just thought it was all too involved and didn’t know where to start. I know we were pretty stressed at the time, maybe that was it. I reckon I will know better next time.

The Argument For Paid Reviews

Paid reviews have always been a hot topic amongst bloggers. There are those who are all for it, those who are absolutely against it and those aren’t sure where they sit. Personally I’m all for it as I believe it’s a great way to generate income, and I must admit this has to be the strongest argument for it.

I would say the fact that Google disapproves of paid reviews and would Google Slap the PR off of any blog that would dare to partake of this lucrative money spinner is more than likely the strongest argument against it. I’ve even read some blogs where the bloggers are so against others doing paid reviews that they are quite willing to tell Google on them, something that is actually encouraged by the BIG G!

You have to ask yourself why Google is so against paid reviews, and they will tell you that it messes up their algorithms when paid posts passes on PageRank. Matt Cutts will also tell you that one of the reasons is that they do not want paid post passing PageRank to sites that talk about brain tumors, colon cleansing or certain loan companies as some of these may be less than honorable. The problem is if you search any one of these terms you will find that Google has it’s own sponsored links which would make one assume that the real reason is they do not want others to get in on the action. Think about it, every paid review is taking money out of their coffers. We must remember though that it is Google’s search engine and they can run it any way they want and if they want to penalize people for taking on paid post that is their right.

Another argument against paid posts that I’ve come across is, “What if I don’t support the site or it’s content?” The answer is simple, unless you are a member of PayU2Blog, you simply do not take the task, but don’t for a moment think that you are doing the world any favors because there is always someone out there who will take it and they may not put the spin on it that you would have, had you taken the post. Say for example the task was to review an online gambling site. Were you to pass it up the person who took it on may paint such a rosy picture of gambling online that it may well encourage some to take it up. I’ve done many such posts and I play it down some and always finish off telling people how they should gamble responsibly and not to gamble at all if they can’t afford to lose the money.

Then there are those who are worried that people will stop reading their blogs if they did paid reviews, and you know they would be right if there were more paid reviews than regular posts. That would be like watching a TV station where commercials exceeded the actual program. Paid reviews should not be the main focus of any good blog and where they do exist there must always be some sort of disclosure so that readers know exactly what they are reading.

Now don’t for a minute think that I am promoting paid reviews, because I am not. I am merely stating some arguments as to why certain bloggers, myself included, may want to take on paid reviews to supplement their blogging income.

Helium Helping Writers Fulfill Their Dreams

It’s my opinion that writers do what they do because if they didn’t find an avenue to share their thoughts, whether it’s a poem, short story or what they basically had for dinner last night, enter Twitter, they would virtually explode. Those who have a natural talent to write become great authors and are well known for their works. Others may start up a blog to get their work out among the masses in the hope that someone may recognize their talent and offer them a job.

The problem is that you don’t really know how good your work is beyond those people who stop by and tell you what a great job your doing. Are they being honest or are they just looking for a link back to their own blog? You will never really know, but there is a site that will allow you to expose your writing talent to a community of writers as well as being rated amongst others writing in a specific category.

I’m talking about Helium, a site that goes beyond giving you a medium to express yourself, as it also offers you the opportunity to earn money. The amount you make is dependent on the quality of your articles as the higher they rate the more potential there is to earn. The potential to earn is increased with every article you submit.

In my time there I’ve come to realize how important it is to take the time to rate the articles of others, as this is second only to the articles themselves. Helium know this to be true and so they make it compulsory that members rate a minimum of 10 articles a month to be eligible for a share in the advertising pool, but if you become a member I urge you to go way beyond the minimum as this will earn you more stars which can once again increases your earning potential. The rating of articles is easy and painless. You are presented with two articles that sit side by side and under each article are three options you can choose from. They are; By far, More and Slightly More. Once you’ve read both articles you rate the one you think is better.

Helium have also started the $1 Empty Title Bonus which requires a writing star which is different from the rating star. Can’t tell you too much about this as I’ve yet to receive a writing star, but then I have’t really put that much effort into it, you know that old time factor excuse.

There’s a vast amount of areas in Helium that you can post to, and if you can’t find one that suits you can actually start your own. What you will need to keep in mind is that just like having a niche blog there are certain channels in Helium that offer you a greater potential to increase your earnings. Channels such as finance, medicine, health, computers and technology will generate more interest amongst advertisers and readers alike bringing more people to Helium, increasing their revenue and the revenue of the articles that brought them there, quite possibly yours. As bloggers you probably already have a huge amount of material that you could post on Helium, but before you do I suggest giving each article the once over to see what you can improve on as quality is very important to Helium, as it should be to you.

Helium is not all about earning money. It’s also about improving your writing skills and offering help to others. Helium is a community with it’s own forum where you can ask questions and generally soak up the intellectual atmosphere.

I wish I could tell you more, but honestly I am still learning. The thing is that I have 50 invites that I can use to invite others to join and so if you think that Helium is for you just use my contact page to send me your first name, last name, and email address so that I can send you the proper invitation. I can assure you the utmost privacy and that I will never, ever abuse the information you have entrusted to me.

From Birth To Realization Of The Word

Well, my loyal readers, it is time to stir your emotions with another of my poems. This one is pretty different from the poems I normally come up with both in style and in content. I hope you enjoy it.

Serenity, warmth, a heartbeat,
Time passes.

Sudden movement, pain,
Pain subsides, increases and then,
Brightness, noises, blurred images,
Confusion, then warmth, nourishment.
Time passes.

Learning begins, emotions evolve
Touching, tasting and exploring
Laughter, cuddles and joy
Life is good.
Time passes

Learning continues, senses throb
Images invade, world’s troubles implode
A shout, you bad boy stabs self
Feelings hurting, confusion strikes
Must withdraw for contemplation
Time passes

World is different, many changes
Life is shared, family grows
Must provide, stress multiplies
Crosses to carry, more than can bear
Much to carry, a man does not cry
Book is read, much knowledge and parables
Must assimilate
Time passes

Life’s troubles, always there
Must learn not to cope alone
Troubles grow, shout of anguish
Voice within, calming, ‘Trust in Me’
What? Who said that? Pain!
Voice within, calming, ‘Believe in Me’
Must listen to voice, the Spirit within
But life intrudes with worldly woes
Voice within, calming, ‘I died for you”
Yes! Realization, Dawn erupts
Accept the voice
Time Passes

World in trouble, peace dissolving
Bombs exploding, children screaming
Thousands dying, for no reason
The Word is there, no-one listening
The time is now, no turning back
Must spread the Word, people must listen
Without the Word all is lost
Accept the Word, will bring deliverance
Always there for those who seek
As in the beginning so also in the end
The Word is Jesus

I hope that the poem inspires you to leave a comment.
