The reason many people join Amazon as an affiliate is because of the range of products they have available for sale. My tool of choice as an Amazon affiliate would have to be WPZon Builder!

Do Your Shopping With Ease With ShopWiki

This post has been brought to you by your friends at Shopwiki.com

In my last post I mentioned how blogging shouldn’t just be about the money, because if you focus just on the money side of it, there is every chance that it will compromise the quality of your blog. The honest truth is that most people take up blogging because they want to earn some extra cash and whilst the majority of them continue because they develop a passion for it, the rest find it all too hard and lose interest.

The thing is that we all need money to live, and when possible, to by the niceties in life. More and more people are discovering that you can buy quality products on the net and at the same time save you money. The trouble is that a lot of people find it difficult to source the right products and this is where shopwiki.com comes into play.

Imagine that your child’s birthday is coming up and you haven’t the time to physically go shopping, but the thought of searching the Net for some decent Toys and Games is also a little daunting. Shopwiki.com is specially designed to help consumers find specific consumer products on the Internet with ease. Where Google targets every single thing on the net that has even a slight similarity to your search query, including those distasteful porno sites, the wiki only target products relative to your search that are available on the Net.

You may be interested in educational toys that stimulate the mind or perhaps something that promotes a more active approach to fun such as a SpongeBob SquarePants Water Slide. No matter what you are looking for, this particular wiki plans to make your search simpler and more productive. Their consumer written wiki will help you to not only find the product, it will also show you where you can buy it. Rather than wait until the last minute to try it out, why not hop on over, give it a whirl and let me know what you think.

Blogging, It’s Not All About Money!

Let’s face it, we all would love to make a whole lot of cash from our blogs, but I want to point out that blogging doesn’t necessarily have to be all about money. So what are some of the other things that we can get out of blogging.

  1. Satisfaction From Helping Someone : I reckon I get a whole lot more exited when I am able to help someone through a post or even a comment from within a post, than from the measly few bucks I earn from Google.
  2. Recognition By Others: This may come in several forms, from a simple trackback from a post you wrote to having your blog chosen as the Featured Blog for the week.
  3. Exposure: This can be tied in with Recognition, and it’s really great to have someone email you to ask if they can use some of the material that you posted in a blog. This happened at my ScenicAdelaide blog where the editor of an Australian magazine called Discovering Stone, which is aimed at the natural stone industry, asked if she could use a photo from my Three Rivers Fountain in Victoria Square post. No money changed hands but the credits showed me as the photographer as well as a link to the blog.

See, blogging doesn’t necessarily have to be all about making money as there are lots of things that can make it an extremely satisfying venture. Blogging may provide loads of ways of satisfying a bloggers life, and I would really be interested to find ouy what it is that you get out of blogging.

Sire’s ‘Ice Breaker’ Pick Up Line

Something that I have wanted to do for a very long time is to actually do a video of myself and host it online for all to see. The thing is that I don’t really want to be on public display, being such a shy bloke and all, but I figured, seeing as how it is the new year and all, what the heck.

This particular video will demonstrate my sick sense of humor. It has sexual overtones so if you think that you may be offended don’t watch. No, there is nothing that involves the sexual act, no naked breasts or hot steaming thighs. There is not even a hint of copulation, or even the slights glimpse of sexual organs!. But even so, there is a hint of some form of sexual content so just remember, You Have Been Warned! How’s that for keyword stuffing? :laugh_tb:

Remember, if you want to see more of this stuff, simply get everyone you know to promote it using Digg, Stumble, Tweet or whatever means they like. I need all the encouragement I can get to do another performance of this magnitude.

You may also want to take part in the poll. You can make two selections in this poll.

Was This Funny? Was It Crude?

Allowing Commentators To Edit Their Comments

Yes, I know Yan, another post about comments. But seriously mate, it’s not entirely my fault as this post is directly related to a comment left by Dennis Edell who just happens to believe that you shouldn’t have any blank blog advertisement slots, but more importantly in regards to this post said;

I’m looking for one that plays nice with commentluv, can you link me to yours?

Now I assume he is referring to the plugin that allows commentators to edit their comment. At least that is what I hope he is referring to, the jokes on me if he isn’t. Anyway, a lot of the plugins I use is directly aimed at my readers as I believe that customer service should also include blogs, and in a sense our readers and prospective commentators are our customers.

So, as a service to my cherished commentators I have installed Ajax Edit Comments, which allows the users to edit their comments. Their is a time limit though which is set by admins, and admin can also configure whether or not they can edit other variables like url, name etc. It has one other really nifty feature that allows admin, that’s me, the facility to edit all comments inline, without having  to go into the dashboard. As the almighty ADMIN, I have the power to Edit, De-link, Moderate, Spam or Delete each comment :devil_tb:

Commenting 101 Important Rules For 2009

No comment: Climate Change 'Co2' ideas
Image by net_efekt via Flickr

The New Year is upon us and I can just see all the serious bloggers scrambling around trying to work out what they can do to improve their blog this year. Will it be a new theme or perhaps they will try to improve on their SEO techniques. I wonder how many actually look back to see what they did last year and the probable effects it may have had on their blog’s performance.

I remember stressing last year how important commenting was, posts that included;

Yet I still wonder if the message is getting out because I still notice a lot of inane comments out there and I want people to realize that whilst these comments may get you a back link they won’t generate many visitors and I think visitors that may actually turn into commentators is what every bloggers wants.

[eminimall]
So, for 2009 I think we should all apply the following Commenting 101 rules.

  1. Read The Whole Post! Honestly, how many of you actually read the whole post before commenting. Some of the comments that I’ve seen on blogs are so far to the left that it’s obvious they haven’t read the post. I am surprised that the author let the comment exist.
  2. Formulate Comment! After reading the post, take the time to work out what you are going to say before you just hack away at the keyboard. Try to add to the post if possible. This may include some of your own personal experience.
  3. Proof Read Comment! This is very important. So many commentators are in such a rush to get to the next blog that they publish their comment, complete with stupid moronic mistakes because they didn’t take the time to proof read it. Can you see my hand in the air? Yep, I have been guilty of this offense and it is something that I plan to improve on this year.
  4. Don’t Spam Comments! This is a real no no. You should never leave a spam comment. This is where your sole intention is to leave a link within your comment to a site or affiliate you are promoting. Most of these comments are pretty short lived and a waste of time.
  5. Read What Others have To Say! It’s not all that hard to skim through what other people are saying and it is the only way to add to the conversation. Imagine being amongst a group of people discussing a topic, not really listening, and then coming up with something completely off topic, something that causes a quiet uncomfortable pause as everyone tries to work out where you are coming from. That could be the effect of your comment, and as such it will be disregarded.
  6. Name And Not Keyword! I know that everyone is trying to get maximum exposure for their keywords but I really think that blog hosts would like a name rather than a keyword such as  ‘Ultimate Blogging Tips’ when people leave a comment.
  7. Nothing To Say, Then Don’t Say Anything! This can happen at times and rather than an a generic ‘thanks for the post’, ‘ nice post’ etc. it is best not to say anything at all. As Forsaken of Domain Marvelous suggest it you can always show your appreciation by taking the time to ‘social bookmark the post’.

These are all very important rules, but there are many more that could be added to the list. Perhaps you have one that you would like to be listed? If so leave a comment, and if I like it I will add it to the post with a link to your blog.

I would like to add part of the comment that was left by April of Cranial Soup who inspired me to join Friendfeed with her Top Ten FriendFeed Friends, as I know not everyone will read all the comments ;) When you are ready to leave a comment on a particular post you should also keep the following in mind as that comment should enable you;

1. to participate in a conversation
2. to establish a reputation
3. to command respect from others
4. to reach out and draw people into your circle
5. to turn the blogger into an ally that is willing to give you a prime link in the body of one of his posts
