Have you ever found yourself sitting in front of the computer staring at the monitor with a blank look on your face wondering what your next post is going to be? I remember doing a post not so long ago about what to do when you are running out of topics to write about. Where that post may provide a solution for some people it may not solve the problem for all bloggers. So what do you do.

Enter The Prompt Writer! This blog is run by Christine Senter,  a professional freelance writer who is quite happy to share the knowledge she has accumulated over 20 years with all bloggers. Her posts are succinct and easy to read and those who are willing to learn from them are bound to come away with a wealth of knowledge.

Hop on over now and check out her post Creative Ideas For December, or perhaps her post on Finding Ideas For Great Articles is more to your liking. So, if you are searching for a little extra creative juice perhaps it would be a good idea to bookmark her blog for those times when that screen is looking blankly at you.

Wassup Blog’s Mean Woman Blues

I think it’s time that I have a little fun with one of my poems. I reckon there are many of you who realize that I am not that great a poet but doesn’t stop me from trying to have a little fun with my poems. You may remember “Bullshit Is Not A Dirty Word“, where I changed the words of a famous Skyhooks song? Well, in this next one I played around with Roy Orbison’s Mean Woman Blues!

I got a woman mean as she can be
She plucks my eyes out so that I can’t see
I’m screaming in pain and she just don’t care
She just spits in my face and then pulls my hair

Oh, pity me woman, the pain is too much
Laughing hysterically she kicks me in the crutch
I bend over screaming clutching my balls
Thinking I am a man and I should stand tall

For stuff sake woman was it what I said
That your arse looks fat when you wear red
Or maybe it was that fateful day in May
When you caught me in bed with your sister Kay

Yeah I got a woman mean as she can be
She sees no reason and does not pity me
The pain I am feeling simply has no effect
I am blinded and her blows I just can’t deflect

Yeah I have no eyes but I see clearly now
You’re a bitch, a whore and a big fat cow
You drove me to that sister of yours
Every time I saw you pull down your drawers

That was a site that no man should see
I’m sure that all men would agree with me
So beat me woman as much as you can
A life in hell is better for this wretched man

Yep, I have a woman mean as she can be
But no longer can that woman torment me
And I’ve gone to hell where I belong
For making up this wretched song.

Increase Return Commentators With A Simple Plugin

A typical wooden returning boomerang
Image via Wikipedia

I love commenting on other peoples blogs but there is one thing that I find really irritating, and that is the amount of blogs that do not allow me the facility to subscribe to their comments. In my post What Type Of Commentator Do You Aspire To Be, I list 6 types of commentators with the one that every blogger loves to get being the Boomerang Commentator. Now, that is the type of commentator that I try to aspire to, but if bloggers do not allow me to subscribe to their comments then they can’t really blame me it I don’t come back.

The thing is that this feature can be easily added to any WordPress blog via a plugin. There are several floating around but the one that I use is, funnily enough,  Subscribe To Comments 2.1. So do yourself a favor and install the plugin so that I don’t have to bloody rant about this again. :wallbash_tb:

WordPress 2.7 Rocks

I’ve installed the latest WordPress 2.7 on this blog and one other basically so that I could test it out before converting all my blogs. I must admit that I was a bit apprehensive at first because I did read a couple of bad reviews, mainly on how the new dashboard was awful and would take a lot of getting used to. I can safely say that apart from the initial shock of seeing the bulk of the Dashboard on the left hand side, I had no trouble at all acclimatising myself to the new layout.

That aside it has so many new and modified features. At the top right you will find a tag called “Screen Options” where you can select what options are shown on your screen, and I find that a great addition. Word Count is now directly below where you are typing the post, which is where it should have been from the beginning.

One of the best features is the “Sticky Post” feature which allows you to select a post to remain on your home page for as long as you want instead of having it disappear into the archives. This is a real asset if you are promoting a particular affiliate or just want to give that special post that you have worked so hard on that bit more exposure. To access this feature go to the ‘Publish’ section and where it says ‘Visibility’ click edit and presto, you are presented with the option to make it ‘Sticky’.

If you haven’t installed it yet I reckon you should do so because as far as I am concerned I would never go back to the old version. WordPress, you still Rock!

Cool Blog Links Now Live

What is Cool Blog Links? Put simply Cool Blog Links is my latest venture, one in which I hope a lot of my fellow bloggers will take advantage of. By joining this free site bloggers will have the opportunity to see how their blogs stack up against fellow bloggers. This is easily done as members get to display a tiny button on their blogs which allows visitors to vote for them. The code also keeps track of various statistics including page views, and in case you are wondering the code isn’t a script and so will not slow down the speed of of page loads.

Those members who are in the top ten also get to display their banner and will obviously get more exposure. It may be just the incentive needed to push your blog to the next level. As I hope to get the site to a PR4 status I would hope that this would also pass onto members. It hasn’t been a week since it’s been live and ‘cool blog links’ is already no1 on Google. I don’t know if it is the selection of key words or not, but the thing is that if someone is looking for ‘Cool Blog Links’ they are going to find my Cool Blog Links right at the top of page one on Google. Not bad huh? And if you are a member you will be right there when they click to check it out.

The reason for having another site started the day I was looking for a new domain to register. I decided to host it with Web Hosting Pad because apart from having one of the best deals around, they also included a free domain for life. I could see the savings in that fact alone and so I was quick to sign up. It’s a pretty specific name that I thought was great for SEO purposes and so Cool Blog Links came to fruition.
